There only be ONE Game of the Year, and it ain't MGS4

MGS4?

MGS4 is a superb game, I can't deny that, but my own personal GOTY is Sonic Unleashed, the PS360 version. Far Cry 2 is the runner up followed by Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm in 3rd. Tough decision but it was close between Far Cry 2 and Sonic Unleashed.

A game of the year needs to have:

Good writing

Good production values

Good controls

Good Combat

Good Plot

Good Multiplayer (not always

Huh? Gears writing was terrible. Terrible. I mean come on. Dom's wife? What am I like 12 years old? Please.

But I can't say that MGS4's writing was any better.

After all they are just video games. Cant expect much. Its not like they have Dostoyevsky doing their writing.

Gears 2's story was laughable, its tried ripping of MGS4 with the emotional scenes and Bioshock, but failed....i couldn't watch the screen when Dom got all upset over Maria, cheesiest and most random thing for Gears, ever...just didn't suit it. Game still scored below the first, so that says something. Epic should have kept the story simple yet epic in battles, throw out all that emotional **** because it doesn't work for a game like gears....then again, Epic are never original with ideas, its why most of there titles suck concerning story. Gears 2 has great gameplay tho, but MGS4 is the whole package. IMOEyezonmii

Although Gears 2 not even getting nominated was criminal.

And I do not think we should take Gamespot's opinion as fact.
