When it comes to gameplay I really don't see why people say GT5 is subpar... the gameplay is awesome. And there is SO MUCH CONTENT. Whats wrong with people? Since when does announcing a game mean is HAS to come out within 2 years of that announcement??
If thinking about something like a game's development cycle makes you want to puke, you really should go see a doctor.
Developers do multiple projects all the time and succeed infinitely more. All you're doing is further proving that Polyphony is unorganized.
Some people here don't get that TC is solely talking about the time the game had been under development and how that wasn't exclusively spent on GT5.Not that more or less time would make it any better , I like it , it has it's flaws , but it definetly needs a revamp.

*sigh* There is so much ignorance here surrounding Gran Turismo 5's development time I want to vomit  "durr...what the hell was Polyphony doing for 6 years?!?" you ask? "hurr durr....PD are teh lazy devs!! Trololol" you say? You do realize that Gran Turismo 5 was not the only game they were working on in that timeframe right? In fact, Gran Turismo 4 wasn't even the last PS2 game they made. Tourist Trophy was. So, let's examine these 6 years alittle closer shall we? So, in the 6 year window between Gran Turismo 5 and Gran Turismo 4, Polyphony Digital: -Started development, completed and SHIPPED Tourist Trophy, an entire PS2 game from start to finish. ( note that the game wasn't just released within this window, but the entire games development cycle ALSO took place within this timeframe) -Started production on Gran Turismo PSP -Stopped production on Gran Turismo PSP -Started, and completed production on Gran Turismo HD Concept (which was released on PSN) and released. -Started production on Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, completed production and shipped. This game went on to outsell every forza game ever made with an impressive 5 million units. Even after launch, they still spent months working on the game (patches) and an entire other version of the game was released in japan (spec 3) -Went back and resumed production on Gran Turismo PSP, and shipped it. It went on to sell 2 milion. -Oh and, Idk.....building their first full scale PS3 game of the generation, Gran Turismo 5 Which went on to sell 5.5 million in 12 days. . So out if all of that, that is 5 seperate projects that Polyphony Digital was working on at the same time, and with all of their efforts, they sold more software than Turn 10 in that same timeframe. They sound like pretty damn hardworking developers to me ;). They've even talked about how the developers used to keep sleeping bags in their offices. . So systm wars, now you know what Polyphony Digital was doing for 6 years and can stop spamming that question it in every single thread related to Gran Turismo or Forza. . Lettuce be reality, We will most likely see Gran Turismo 6 in 2012. They have even stated that Gran Turismo 6 won't take as long and their engine and all their tools, and most of the assets are already built. StrongDeadlift
Still, though. I think GT5 is the best game of the year, personally, but I keep it realistic and won't deny that parts of the game shipped with disappointment. Upscaled LAST GEN model cars and tracks? This game was touted as one of THE ps3 games. That should never have happened.
Apologize for all you want, but there's no excuse for a 6 year development time when the end product was so far from "perfection" (which is the excuse GT fanboys gave for the long development time "Yamamuchi is a perfectionist! Don't you dare question the long development time!) . They should have managed their time better. Yes, it was an ambitious game, but there other ambitious games out there that were finished in a timely manner and were more polished.
Well it's bit exactly as if it wasn't fruitful for them. People on the forums are making this whole "GT5 floppity flop" thing WAY WAY bigger than it actually is. This game is talked about on here by 360 fanboys like it's ****ing Lair or Genji or something. because it is like those games. Cows promised it was perfection, defended it at every turn by saying perfection takes time, It wasn't till the official hype thread was released that cows recanted and started saying AAA...Every time before that they guaranteed AAAAE. It didn't meet the hype, the hype for gt5 was the biggest in a long time and it didn't meet that very large amount of hype, so its flop size is the same as lair and genji.[QUOTE="StrongDeadlift"][QUOTE="GreySeal9"]Well it's bit exactly as if it wasn't fruitful for them. It certainly was not disappointing in that respect. The hype of a couple forum dwellers was nothing in comparison to the way Sony and PD touted the game. THAT is where the disappointment stemmed from--and likely a major reason for a lot of the somewhat negative reviews.
PD has released 6 titles in the last 6 years according to their wiki, although some are fairly similar to each other.
[QUOTE="jet052006"]
GTHD and GT5P all became assets in GT5s development, those arn't seperate projects.
Phaze-Two
that still leaves TT and GTPSP
thats one game every couple of years. plus updates. they weren't being lazy.
however, i think they should have just focused on GT5 after GT4 and focused on either making it better, or coming out with it quicker.
TT was released early 2006, that means in an almost 5 year period Polyphony was only able to release GTPSP (a handheld title that should not take anywhere near the same development time as a full fledged PS3/360 title, and GT5. 2 games in five years and one of them being a hand-held title, and the other could have probably used more development time (GT5) doesn't seem too productive to me.[QUOTE="StrongDeadlift"]*sigh* There is so much ignorance here surrounding Gran Turismo 5's development time I want to vomit  "durr...what the hell was Polyphony doing for 6 years?!?" you ask? I believe it's been proven with a link in system wars that PD made ALL care from scratch and none were "copy pasted" over. So, in six years they churned out a few demos, an average PSP game, and GT5 (which didn't even get AAA?) ? Considering how much of a sales success Prologue and GT5 were, I don't think PD even cares that their games were under-par to a certain degree. Stevo_the_gamerWell,and Tourist Trophy that was a full game.
somewhere there is one sad violin playing you a lonely little tune, but youre not getting it from me. Many many devs have done a lot more in that time and have been a lot more successful that PD. Sorry, thats fact. They didnt get it done when they had every single reason to.

No way! Do you forget how many times Sony set the stage to show off GT5? The hype was created by Sony. This was one of the Zeldas of the PS3 lineup.
You forgot one thing:
GT5 was built on a new engine from scratch.
Forza is still using the same engine from the first game (new code on top of old).
Rikusaki
and you sold your ps3 for onlive, therefore your argument is automatically nullified.

Antitheist-
and you sold your ps3 for onlive, therefore your argument is automatically nullified.
And its not even an good argument, not reusing your old code isn't "clever" or "praiseworthy", it's a bad thing......If what you said is true (I'm sure it is to an extent but you're definitely over exagerating to make a point) this could have all been avoided if they did 1 of 2 possible things.
1. Not announced the game until they intended to devote 100 percent resources to it
2. Tell us when production was on hold because they were working on other projects.
They did neither, we can only assume they were producing it for 6 years. Even then people are annoyed because they released a game announced 6 years ago and totally didn't implement the polish you would expect from a game announced so long ago. That's how I feel anyway. It's too long a time period to be so middling in implementation of simple game elements.
And they could have finished a more complete build instead of Prologue. But decided to release a $40 demo instead, and make us wait another 3 years. Maybe they should not have wasted their time with Tourist Trophy, GT5P and GTPSP? Maybe they should have concentrated their time and effort on one game... because all of their efforts since GT4 onwards have been either A or AA... and not up to the standards people have been expecting since GT3.
I just got GT5 last night, and I got to say I'm loving it. Premium Cars look great, and the devs have stated they are working to make standard cars on par with premium with upcoming patches and such.
Won't be an overnight process, but GT5 will get better as time goes on.

NOW THIS is how you do damage control8) it still flopped though and you are aware that Polphony prbably has multiple developement teams so Gt 5 was probably in developement for the whole 6 year period while other minor teams worked on other games.
The damage control is still pouring in. Why try to make excuses for a game that failed to meet ridiculously high standards? Blame the cows for hyping the thing to the moon.Cr1m1nal_Slang
Exactly. They're the ones who kept bragging about "GT 5 is gonna destroy Forza 3, etc." I mean, PD were working on this same title for 5-6 years, & came out a year after Forza 3 came out, & this is what they got? That's got to be pretty embarrassing. Then when they realized that GT 5 isn't exactly what it's all cracked up to be, they suddenly pull up the sales card. That's basically admitting defeat.
