last of us 2 - enjoyed the first one enough, might try the new one if I get a PS5 or get my PS4 fixed
God of War 4 - genuinely surprised it was good. I could do without the forced walking and unskippable cutscene shit, but its an enjoyable game. GOTY is absurd tho 7/10
Uncharted 4 - combat arenas themselves make up for the shallow mechanics, but there is a whole rest of the game that is fucking brain dead. 5/10
Bloodborne - love it. 8/10
Death Stranding - haven't played, want to.
Spiderman - didn't play. Don't want to play batman combat, think Spiderman is wack outside of 2 movies.
Are you suggesting Uncharted 4 has more shallow mechanics than The Last of Us?
Which two Spider-Man movies?
Raimi 2 and Into the Spiderverse. The latter is the 2nd best cape shit movie behind Mask of the Phantasm, if we don't count The Iron Giant. If we do then Iron Giant is number 1.
Yes
UC mechanically is ads, shoot, run, jump, clamber n shoot, roll, basic bitch melee, and bush stealth.
TLOU is similar minus a jump button, but no regen health, you have to craft health in real time, ditto equipment, said equipment is tied to a resource that means if you make x, you might not able to make y, the bullet economy is also different. The difference between the two is that I think TLOU has better situational depth because of actually needing to manage resources, worrying about a health bar, and such.
You have more long term n short term things you have to worry about, damage in UC is a short term thing that you just run around and heal from asap. And it was doing similar type of open spaces that allowed for action n sneaking, before UC4 did, and unlike UC4, it still works on its highest difficulty. In UC4, run n gun is taken off the table, the grappling hook is taken off the table, and you play a somewhat more mobile, but still wack a mole ass cover shooter.
Both have a lot of bad non-combat segments in their games, but I was willing to be forgiving to TLOU's as a pacing mechanism that isn't all that needed. UC4 on the other hand can go large stretches with the player doing fucking NOTHING.
Maybe I rather just play a baby's first survival horror game over the baby shooters that cover shooters are, but I think there are more interesting decisions made in the action of TLOU over UC, which doesn't hold up when you get over the bombastic nature of it. Added bonus TLoU's multiplayer wasn't half bad, it was kind of neat. And the whole needing to make your shit on the fly thing added a lot to it. On the other hand with Uncharted the mp is just brain dead ass cod as a tps.
Oh and while I could do without some of the rng, I think the sway adds a lot to the gunplay of TLOU because you have to be a bit more mindful of your shot selection. In Uncharted 4 the achievement is that somehow Naughty Dog came to a place other devs had gotten to long ago as far as gunplay. Only took em 4 uncharted games.
