They turned GoW into another Horizon, Last of Us, Uncharted walking simulator. Sony can’t create anything original.
horizon? nope sorry you have not played it then.
you can turn that off.
Don't think so. I thought you could but no. Unless they updated the game in the past 2-3 days.
There's the Extended+ in the setting that will delay any hints to let the player figure it out before either Atreus or Mimir gives it away.
The handholding and padding in this game is atrocious.
That too. I've barely started the puzzle that Atreus or Mimir already give away the solution. "Hey, maybe you should freeze this thing?"
"How about turning this crane?"
STFU, I'm still looking.
you can turn that off.
You can’t

yeah under settings there is a way to extend the time.

You can't turn it off. You said you can turn it off. You are wrong. It's a widely known issue and there are even articles about it now. Hopefully they patch the game to allow you to disable hints.
I absolutely hated this game by the end of it. Im beyond disappointed
How come?
I agree as well. Disappointed and jealous that I seem to be in the minority because I wanted to enjoy Ragnarok but there is far too much wimpy emotional dialogue throughout the game. "Sorry Father", "I hope you find peace", "I did not know about your wife, Kratos" "Why can I not feel free even after all these years", etc. Tons of cutscenes, yeah but even outside of those there is just so much damn talking which usually amounts to crying, apologizing, sob stories from Atreus, Mimir, Freya, Tyr, Kratos even talks quite a lot in this one and it is very annoying to hear while I went here and there exploring to find more demons and treasure, etc. Lots of walking and talking too. The Atreus parts did not feel like God of War especially that one part with the girl.
If they had trimmed a lot of these parts out and kept Kratos stoic and not so weak so that he could "complete a character arc" (the reason for him being so off in this game I see by several people on the net) then I would have enjoyed this new one a lot more. 2018 did it correctly. Ragnarok just goes overboard with the emotions that it becomes way too dramatic and soft. The weirdest God of War game I've ever played.
@jg4xchamp: Wait until you get to Ironwood, then Asgard. The former especially is arguably the worst section in the whole series and just keeps going when you think it’s over. Asgard at least has some cool lore bits even if it’s boring.
I did the ironwood part, yeah that part sucked lmao

Lol, told you. Not saying there weren't parts like this in the 2018 game, but they didn't drag on for 2 hours. You got another part like this (heavy on story and exposition) later on but it has some combat sections sprinkled on it and the lore is cool so it was bearable.

tbh this had combat too, but atreus moveset is so mediocre compared to Kratos. And they know that shit is mediocre, because to offset that shit he's diesel as **** at building stun on even just his basic hits, so you can erase enemies even on give me god of war, but **** is he so boring.
By the 3rd time I had to get on that stupid animal I finally went "SERIOUSLY?!, AGAIN?"
The boss fights have been subpar so far, nothing has been as good as even the valkyries so far as the previous games. Up to and including the valkyrie you fight in the story after that ironwood part.
Kinda got that vibe from the 2018 reboot.
Let's be real tho, the reason I dropped that game was the frame rate on PS4 and the fact that Dark Souls Remaster was also out around that time.
Why would I play GoW at 30fps when I can play a better game all round like Dark Souls at 60fps?
I got to the jellyfish that you free in the desert. The game has been nothing but amazing. People bitchin' about Ragnarok are only doing so because this game has attracted a lot of eyes, and it triggers them.

This part was at least better than the rest of Alfheim. A puzzle after opening every door got annoying fast.

And you are just fanboying and loving every mouthful Santa Monica spoonfeeds you. Valid criticism can exist for this movie-game while it still being ok.
Now open up and take some more crying and apologizing, walking and talking, and Atreus gameplay. Take your God of Wimps medicine.
@poe13: yup, way too melodramatic and soap opera like you said. The games pacing is absolutely atrocious, i was bored out of my mind most of the game. For example, the part where atreus and black girl ride the yak and pick fruit for two hours was ridiculous. Combat is extremely repetitive and very spongy. I found it to so monotinous that by hour 20 i uninstalled the game and watched the cutscenes on youtube. Platforming is non existant, puzzles are repetitive and the characters tell you the solution instantly ruining the entire thing. Opening a hundred treasure chests with the same animation and crappy loot is annoying. Rpg like gear system is still tacked on half baked trash, extremely scripted and linear game offering no replayability, average at best plot, very rushed ending, cant stand odins voice and characterization. He isnt the lord of the 9 realms, hes ur creepy uncle you dont invite to the reunion. Nobody shuts up in the game, there is constant woe is me and fluff word vomit to lengthen the run time. Its like they tried to make a 8 hour story into a 30-35 hour game. The game is complete trash. Beautiful looking but complete trash. A glorified linear hallway simulator movie game
The more I hear about this game, the more I see this game as the posterboy for everything wrong with AAA games. So glad I got Tactics Ogre, Mario XCOM 2 and getting Dwarf Fortress instead of this garbage.
This game even caused one of my friends to sell her PS5.
@Fairmonkey: Exactly! These are the main issues with this game and yet they seem to be ignored by many many people who continue to fanboy over this trash like it is some amazing new revolution of gaming. Its not. Its a damn movie game.
I even liked the Uncharted games and 2018 god of war but i can understand that they could be called movie games. Ragnarok has gameplay but it really is nothing we havent seen before in 2018 and now it goes even further in the movie game tons of cutscenes and walking talking spectrum.
Yet lots of ppl eat this shit up. Unbelievable.
@poe13: Not too sure what you're talking about. If this game was a shitty disappointment, i'd be the first to shit on. Its better than the first, and gow2018 was awesome to begin with. Unless the game turns to shit (which probably won't happen cuz it never did in TLOU2), this is just hatin' on what's popular. The story telling, characters and characters development is amazing. Good combat system, shitload of variety of environment, enemies and bosses. What the f else do you want? Btw i don't want you to quote me and spoil the damn game, so no need to tell me how the game is later on.
Funny, I liked GoW 2018 a lot. But admittedly only played it once and have felt no reason to go back to it.
Uncharted 4 was the most overrated game I ever played.
But I hand it to Sony. They know their market and feed it.
@hardwenzen: What I, and Fairmonkey above, and Juub among others have already said over and over throughout this thread is whats wrong. I dont know what more to tell you? The incessant whiny dialogue, the parts where you dont play as Kratos, the walking and talking being way more than the 2018 one, everybody being a sorry loser wimp with their feelings.
But have your opinion and keep enjoying the game. Just know that there are those of us that dont just hate Ragnarok because its popular but for the glaring issues that we have all stated already.
2018 was better and had a nice, personal story that wasnt too mushy or had to be a big extravagant endeavor. This new one is a mess.
@hardwenzen: You’re Just defending it because you have so much face riding on it. Good combat? There’s so much hand holding, warning signs, button cues and handholding going on….I mean, button mashing in 2022?
You were being honest up until you remembered how much you were hyping this game…..or did you forget how much it looked like a ps4 game to you?

I am not gonna read anything in this thread. I don't want you or someone else to spoil the damn game for me. Will see how it really is when i am done with the game.
But i did find it curious how you were done with the game in like what? 2-3 days? If you were b-lining the game on easy mode, that's not how a game like this is supposed to be played, but whatever.
@hardwenzen: you do know the title of this thread has "(spoilers)" clearly in it right? If u dont want spoilers, dont open the thread and talk to us....right? Or am I wrong about that?
I played through it on normal and about 10 side quests in 30 hours and i spent a lot of time last week every day because I have a pretty boring life. I wont brag and say i beat it on the hardest setting because im not that good and most games hardest settings are infuriating anyway. These new gow games arent even that fun the harder you go because everything becomes more spongier. Thats just tedious.

Not to mention the game insults the player's intelligence by constantly telling them how to solve puzzles. Santa Monica really lets them know what they think of their fans.
When every puzzle could be summed up like this,
With no way to turn it off. It goes to show how little AAA gaming is for me. If this is the "quality" Hardwenzen wants me to experience, I will gladly stick with games like the one shown below for the rest of my life.
Why? Becuase this is an actual video game. Not an interactive MCU movie.
Played it for about 3 hours, camera is still terrible and there's still no jump button (This series used to have platforming you know). It's nice to have the blades from the beginning though.
@Maroxad: ooff, I didn't think it was that bad. Geez, Sony really went to town with the movie stuff I guess, but they've been doing it for decades now.
The movie stuff really kills the mood sometimes.

AAA gaming sure is in a good spot, aint it? :P
Looks like Santa Monica thinks sony fans are a bunch of smoothbrains if the characters spoil the puzzle themselves. rofl.
@Maroxad: very interesting video. It really goes through alot of background decision stuff that devs go through and i can kind of understand their perspective. I recently started playing a game called Solantis on gamepass. It's completely quiet, no hints, barely any sound. You have to figure out how to get out of the ship. I couldn't figure it out so I checked a walk through online and it told me what I had to do. Not really a big deal.
I guess it can be frustrating to some people, that they couldn't figure something out. Though, that's dumb. You play games to have fun not to stress out. If you need a bit of help, then that's cool too.
If there's one negative i can say about the game, is that i don't like to play as Atreus. I like him for the story purposes, but give me my daddy Kratos god dammit.
@Fairmonkey: @poe13: @cainetao11: "Uncharted 4 was the most overrated game I ever played."
UC4 was beyond horrible. That and GOW 2018 is the reason why I'm glad I don't pay full price for games.
Is this really accurate:
"For example, the part where atreus and black girl ride the yak and pick fruit for two hours was ridiculous"
If so, that is beyond ridiculous.

Combat sections with Atreus are indeed kinda shit but I do like how nimble and agile he feels compared to the big burly Kratos.

He is nimble, sure. Thing is, he has that one combo (i believe its r1 r1 r1 r1 r2 r2) that kills everything, so you're constantly spamming the same combo all the damn time. Got old within the first 20 minutes.

His playstyle pretty much funnels everyone into using a stun build. Just focus on that because that's all he's good for. I was also hoping that I could use the sword but it's just a fucking companion. How can he do real damage with a fucking bow as a melee weapon lol?
@PSP107: Yes the section is called Ironwood. It has been widely criticized for bringing the pace of the game to a screeching halt. Its where atreus meets angrboda. You can find it on youtube

And the worst part is that you cannot skip it. This makes the prospect of a NG+ daunting because there's so much shit and dialogue you cannot just fast-forward through.
I mentioned it in the other thread, but the second thing i dislike about the game (and i am pretty darn sure that i am real far from the ending. I don't even have a single heavy runic attack) is how apologetic Kratos is to Freya. I understand that they try to give him more human vibes, but they went overboard. Curious to see how it plays out later in the game (and don't quote my ass with spoilers!!!).

It takes a long-ass time to get your first heavy Runic Attack.
As for the other thing, nah, I can understand. He killed her son when she explicitly told him NOT to interfere. You also have to acknowledge that when Atreus was on the verge of death thanks to Kratos himself, Freya is the one who saved him so Atreus owes her his life.
It's hard not to feel apologetic if you're in Kratos shoes. She saves your son and you take hers.

I understand that perfectly fine, but seeing Kratos (referring to the jungle level where Freya follows you as a "pigeon", and you free her at the end) constantly feeling for her, tries real hard to tell her his side of the story, and talks about his brother he lost just to make her feel better, felt very out of character to me. Making him more human and giving him a character is one of the main reasons i like the reboot as much as i do, but its still Kratos, i want him to be rough with everyone including his son. This is at least what i expect from God of War.

Oh, yeah, that was definitely jarring. He should have just shut up and let her be mad about it. Ultimately, it was still Freya's fault that all of this happened.
