Well than you obviously haven't played HL2: Episode 2, and this is a graphics engine almost 3 years old! right click > view image.
EDIT: The source engine is almost 4! years old, not 3.
i think mass effects are betterhustler_151
I agree, but then again, I havn't played either game.
No... that's a lie. I played Half Life 2, but I didn't get far. I believe I was still using that jet sky gizmo. Though, I'm not sure if that was before or after my guy wasn't able to teleport with everybody else..
Yeah. I'm playing The Orange box right now (started playing it just yesturday :D) And I'm playing the Half-Life 2 (part one) for the first real time and Mass Effects facial animations are bland and lifeless compared to it.Cedmln
EDIT: I mean't to sat Half-Life 2

We agree for once. Everyone praises Uncharted and Heavenly Sword for their animations, but those are during cutscenes. No game has come close to Half-Life 2's in-game animations. I actually care about the characters because you can see them expressing their emotions through the animations. Mass Effect still looks great though.
Started HL2 on The Orange Box a few days ago, the games facial animations look great, the game in general, kind of looks like crap, anyone agree the game doesn't hold up well, i mean RE4 which is a GC game looks better than HL2.

I thought HL2 looked pretty good when I was playing it the other day, or at least better than what I remember of RE4, though not much.
Yeah nothing beats HL2's facial animation/lip synching. And it's been four years.
But wow didn't notice how bland HL2 Vanilla looked. If you can guys, get the FakeFactory cinematic pack!

Well I'm only up to Water Hazard, maybe it is just so far i have been looking at the bland enviroments but the only thing that looks great so far are the facial animations and the character models.

HELL NO.
They are almost emotionless in ME.
its probably my greatest critism of the game.... That and the combat.
Nothing is better than HL2 Ep2s..........
The ending alone in that game confirms that.
And HS fantastic facial experessions arent even during gameplay (though the game has fantastic production values)
Mass Effect faces look better, obviously, but you're right, source still has the best facial animations so far in gaming. However, ME is going to have at least twice as much dialogue so it is really a greater feat in the end. If they were to make all of the dialogue look as good a HL2's animation it would probably be coming out in 2020.The problem is from all the videos I have watched MEs dialouge is mundane, and emotionless.
.Frostbite24
HL2s dialouge is some of the best in any video game, and the facial expressions are unparalled.
As for the visual quality of the faces - ME no question (though there is much more detail during speech cutscenes, than actual gameplay - in contrast to HL2 always being in gameplay).

Yes because you've played the game from beginning to end.
The reviews say otherwise so far...

Ive watched enough preview videos, and have read enough critism about the dialouge, and ME facial experessions in particular, to have formed an opinion.

your opinon is worthless. And your input is even more worthless :lol:I agree with you about the ME facial animations, they really arent as good as many are saying, they really look emotionless and dead as you said, they are to robotic and there is not enaugh movment on the face and especially the eyes look fake, there is no emotions in them.
HL2 animations are expressing way more emotions and in HS even more, but the best really are in Uncharted, simply every part on th face is moving very naturel and the eyes are amazing they are really showing how is the character feeling, ND really overtoped them self.
