LOL, the PS3 didn't get a great library of games until 2009.:lol:I love this generation as playstation owner, so fun games. But i can agree it must feel sad for 360/Wii

360 and Wii has a lot of good games.

This is by far the most casual/critical/commercial generation of gaming where "gamers" enjoy being ripped off by indistinguishable sequels. A generation where PC gaming is considered dead should not have been called a generation at all. It's more of a "retardation", if you ask me. This is by far the worst generation for anything, really. Music, movies, video games. Novelty died a long time ago in all fields.SidBenjiI guess one kid's "childhood" is a nostalgic man's "retardation".
- To many SKU's. Both Sony and M$ are milking the industry with all of these freaking SKU's and special addition consoles. How many damn 360's do we need? Elite? 20GB? 60GB? Arcade? Halo 3 edition? 250GB?~~~ different versions=more choice. how is that a negative?
- Paying for extra content that should have been included in the game in the first place.~~~ what do you expect?
- Microtransactions~~~ how is it bad?
- The demise of 1st party games~~~Uncharted 2, Little Big Planet, MGS4, w/e good XBOX360 1st party games there are beg to differ
- Catering to much to the casual market and not enough to the hardcore consumer ~~~ the wii does not= every system. for every casual game there is a hardcore game you would like. there is more variety, and better graphics. Your opinion isn't based on fact.
- Mii's, Avatars, home, etc. Unessasary content that has absolutely nothing to do with gaming~~~ Here you go calling extra FREE content a bad thing. its FREE it whether you like it or not it is GOOD, as it simply adds more features to your system of choice
- The lost of many exclusives.~~~ dont understand this, but if you are referring to mgs/ff i kind of agree. However, what is wrong with gaining a larger audience on an appreciated game series?
The list goes on and on............with "facts" as flimsy as these? doens't mean much than does it?

Not even close. Does anyone remember the early 80s anymore? With competition between consoles driving the industry, great graphics, new stories, it's a great generation.
DLC and microtransactions I could do without.
jimkabrhel
Agreed.
I hate paying for anything, but I hate even more when people think they should decide what others do with what is theirs. The devs create this content. It doesn't matter when, it's theirs. This is how it works in the world with the grown ups. You are not entitled to anything. The devs have the right to decide what "should " be included with a game since, well , they made it. This sounds like people can't accept change. There is money to be made and if your suprised or hurt by it well maybe it's time for a new hobby, especially to the TC.I agree somewhat with TC. Paying for content which should have been in the game is daylight robbery. Also, a lot of good game franchises went bad like GTA (IV was kinda boring), and Half Life (the eps aren't as good).

buy a PC ?? you are right tho

I think that this is a great gen, it may not be as memorable for me like last one, but still a fine one, although, i strongly agree with the DLC point, sometimes is ridiculous.

i couldnt help but notice that nowhere in your list is anything relating to a decline in quality of games.
also, thank nintendo for a rise in casual gaming. when you stop being an angry teenager and have a wife/kids/inlaws, its really nice to be able to play games with them.

The first gen just consisted of Pong variants. I don't understand how you could possibly think this gen is worse than that.
Phoenix534
Pong is amazing. Still one of my favorite games today. And I agree with the TC. Not a lot going on. We've also seen a rise in generic FPSs this gen. What about other genres? Why are there so few JRPGs this gen? Answer me this.
I love how you say Generic FPS, and then ask for more JRPGS. Each consecutive JRPG I play feels more and more like the last, i.e. Generiiiic.[QUOTE="Phoenix534"]

Each consecutive JRPG I play feels more and more like the last, i.e. Generiiiic. lol seriously ....I love how people think the other genres don't have a crap load of games working similar formulas that have become overused..... as if the other genres only innovate :PI agree.. One of the worst.. Mostly because of all this casual bullcrap and greed. The games industry used to be free of all this business crap. Free of all these suits. Like that fat blob Bob Kotick aka Dr Robotnik. Now that fat idiots like him are in control. Nothing positive comes from this.

What does it matter, buy the one that fits your needs.
- Paying for extra content that should have been included in the game in the first place.
Sure some Devs try and screw their consumers into buying extra content the moment a game is released but the majority of games don't release DLC till months after a game has been released.
- Microtransactions
- The demise of 1st party games
Not sure what you mean exactly, Sony and Nintendo are still pumping out top notch first party titles, but I agree MS is lagging behind.
- Catering to much to the casual market and not enough to the hardcore consumer
I haven't noticed a drop of high quality titles from this gen to last :?
- Mii's, Avatars, home, etc. Unessasary content that has absolutely nothing to do with gaming
Yet don't take anything away from gaming either.
- The lost of many exclusives.
This can be good and bad, good in that you don't HAVE to own all systems to get a lot of great titles, the bad being the value of your consoles drop due to them sharing a lot of the same games.

actually the third gen was. Atari 5200, Colecovision, and Intellevision. All of which had the worst controllers the world has ever seen and had life spans of like a year and a half
You are a man of high intelligence i agree with you 100%, the only other thing i would add is the lack of innovation this gen

I've enjoyed & still am enjoying the hell out of this gen. Could care less how many different skus they release as I only need the one I purchased. The only thing you defnitely hit the spot on is devs holding out on content that had previously been put in games & charging extra for it. It's not good enough that we spend $60 per game.
Contrary to what you mentioned, this generation is by far the most competitive generation. unlike previous gens, where one or two companies trampled over another company like how ps1/N64 killed Saturn, and how ps2 dominated over Gamecube and Xbox and killing Dreamcast. We currently have 3 competitors who are all going strong. Wii has the most sales and the 360 and ps3 are dueling it out quite fiercely.

The introduction of many SKUs and different bundles are the results of tight competition. Not exactly a bad thing. The extra content thing is all Microsoft's fault. They're greedy. I don't think there is really a demise of 1st party games as it is a huge drop in exclusives. Also an after effect of tight competition. Microsoft is paying devs to break away from exclusivity.
I agree with the casual market thing. But that only applies to the Wii. That's 1 out of 3 consoles in the market now. Not really a huge problem.
Dude, I've read and enjoyed your posts for a while. Your obviously an intelligent gamer. I don't see the problem with Devs making money off of what they create, in any way they see fit. If it's too soon I don't buy it. But who am I to say you can't do this? It should have been on the disc. It's their creation, they can put it together any way they see fit. It's our money, we can spend it or not how we see fit.I've enjoyed & still am enjoying the hell out of this gen. Could care less how many different skus they release as I only need the one I purchased. no, it's not, the DLC is worst thing this generation has brought, but it brought many many new IPs, innovative gameplay and awesome games, the system war is on fire........i kinda blame MS, but afterall it's a company and it looks for profits, whatever it takes to get them.

* You aren't forced to buy the different SKU's. They all perform the same and run the same games, just with different HDD options, which are upgradeable in your current model IF YOU WANT TO that is. You aren't foced to either way.
* Microtransactions and the whole avatar and mii thing, again, you can simply choose to ignore it if you want to and enjoy your games. They're precense doesn't adversly affect the gaming experience in any way.
* PS2 sold in its monstrous numbers in a majority to casuals, not the hardcores. Oh it had its hardcore market, but do you really think that gaming group numbered in the 100+ million? No, it's the people who just get cheap (when it was $200 and under) games who really didn't care about graphics, exclusives, the tech features (most wouldn't know the CPU from RAM) - in other words THE CASUALS. People complaining about the casual market have no historical perpespective or how this field actually thrives.
* So the fact that a game used to be on only one platform can now be enjoyed by more gamers really bothers you? REALLY??? Are you just selfish? The game loses its merit when it is no longer limited just to one group?
---
* And I saved the DLC issue for last. This is one of the worst whiners rants I hear these days (closely following graphics being stagnant). WE need some hermits to come in here and shed some light on this. Back before consoles had HDDs, this was commonly found on many PC games? Remember Expansion Packs? And this was seen as an ADVANTAGE of PC games - that after finsihing a game its life could be EXTENDED and gamers could get MORE enjoyment out of it. That's right noobs, this was actually seen as a GOOD thing.
But now that we have it for consoles it's "buh-buh-but we should have already had it". OH PLEASE, sure, it's real easy to complain what should have been in th original game AFTER THE FACT. But it doesn't change anything, the original game is what it is. Most of the time its designed the same way as any other, with a plot beginning, middle, and conslusion. The fact that the extra chapters (or what ever format the DLC comes in) was awesome and adds to the experience of the game as a whole is, doesn't suddenly invalidate how the game was on its release. If the DLC really is that great, then it did its job - whoch is NOT to make the original game look "incomplete", but to improve what was sound to begin with.
And I actually saw another thread complaining about GTA4 DLC. Excuse me??? SO an original game's design that had anywhere from 25 to 100 hours of play (depending on how many side missions you took) WASN'T GOOD ENOUGH TO BEGIN WITH??? Are you *BLEEPING* serious??? Fallout 3, also has loads of gameplay without the DLC. Mass Effect can last a good 50 hrs without its one expansion mission. Tomb Raider Underwold had a respectable 10-12 hr playthrough on its first time, and also a consclusive story structure.
And in every case, the expansion material does just that, extends the life of what was, AN ALREADY COMPLETE GAME. I will however allow for one caveat here, if the DLC is realeased on the same day as the game, there is no justification for that not to have been on the disc.
-----
I'm sorry TC, but you didn't prove that this is the worst generation of gaming. Only that it is now populated with th MOST SPOILED players ever!! Saying that the original game "sucked without the DLC", and again after the fact, just shows that nothing is ever good enough for some people, no matter what the devs throw at you. Quite frankly that's your problem (this addressed to ALL who complain that it should have already been there). But hey, since you're so qualified to tell game developers how to make a game so perfect, it'll never need new material down the road, how about you get off your lazy whiny ass, and do it yourself. Otherwise, just leave your moaning to yourself.
I guess one reason why System Wars would say it's the worst gen ever, it's because this gen doesn't work well for System Wars. It's like world peace outside System Wars, and it gets harder and harder to actually find things to bash on the consoles. The 360 and PS3 are so identical they have the same games, and nobody has found anything new to bash against the Wii since 2005.Willy105
You actually might be on to something there Willy
