You go digital download as that is the sensible thing to do. Discs carry the same data as downloads. Why pollute more when you don't need to?

When I buy a game I expect to own it indefinitely not on a long term loan that it entirely dependent on the company I bought it from keeping it available to me.

@ezekiel43: GoG is not tied to an account.

Not really sure what relevance a download only platform has. The console publishers would never do what GOG does: provide DRM free installers that can be transferred, copied and shared as much as one desires. Every other platform, including Steam, Origin, Uplay, PSN, Xbox Live, Nintendo and Epic, locks your key to your account, to the server, to the company. You're completely dependent.

@xantufrog: that’s a lie. I own the disc if I can sell it and install it on as many consoles as I want.

Not like you could play your GameCube or 64 game on multiple consoles at once.

I’ve heard that crusty bs argument many a time. No, I own that disc.

What's a lie? I might be wrong about something - because I'm not perfect. But I don't come on here to "lie" and don't you imply otherwise

I didn't say you couldn't

I didn't say you don't own the disc. I said you don't own the GAME that comes on the disc. That's an important difference - and I explained what caveats there are to modern disc use that go into my view (none of the claims you just made about my statement above).

You own the disc. You don't own the game. Wut? That's what he's talking about, the nonsensical argument your side keeps using. Your earlier examples almost never apply. I can't even think of the last disc I used that wouldn't play without an internet connection. Again, the disc or cartridge can download the updates, which are usually non-essential, from any console. The data on the disc or cartridge is not tied to any account or server, therefore the data is yours. If you find downloaded media convenient and want to save space, fine, I get that, but when you use THIS argument, you look like you're grasping at straws in a vain attempt to justify yourselves.

@ezekiel43: who is "your side" and "yourselves"

It's a fact, that legally you do not "own the game". I don't care that you find this pedantic. It's a fact. You own a single license to install and play the game, at least in the USA, and companies are constantly trying to find ways to enforce that. You buy a physical game for PC now and half the time it's just a Steam key. That's a fact. And there's a reason for it.

Jesus christ people.

I own all platforms, I prefer physical. I said it above. I'm not "grasping at straws" and I don't have a "side". I'm just arguing - and I firmly believe rightly so - physical BD games are not equivalent to cartridges or "good old day" physical gaming, that it's much more restrictive and less "eutopia" compared to digital than one might have argued 15 years ago.

How you are finding this objectionable is beyond me, but I'm done. Call me a moron or a shill or whatever the f*ck is going through your heads, but I'm moving on. I'm sorry you are dissatisfied with the quality of your game case.

Because it is pedantic. Really pedantic. Many laws don't have any bearing on your personal life. It doesn't matter what the law states as far as possession goes, because it's on the disc. The data is not reliant on an account or server. You possess it. The copy of it is yours, if that will satisfy you. You can do what you want with it, short of pirating it.

Don't know why you're getting so bent out of shape now. I didn't insult you.

@ezekiel43: sorry, I'm losing patience with work shit and things right now too. I'll cool off. Regardless, I'm not "against you" and I genuinely empathize even if I have basically moved on from the whole "last bastion of physical" stance I once had.

Cheers

Dishonored 2 isn't starting for anyone, apparently. It prompts its "owners" to buy it, then takes you to the purchase page, then doesn't start at all. I was just playing it earlier today.

Sixteen posts in the last hour.

This is what I'm talking about. Wouldn't have this problem if I could just install it from a Blu-ray and find the patches myself. The installer could even come with a shortcut to the webpage that has the patches. I don't want all my games connected to an account, connected to some server.

Before anyone recommends it, I've already tried starting Steam in offline mode.

Couple of my recent Switch purchases have manuals! I thought those things were relics of the past, but maybe not.
