This is Ridiculous: Final Fantasy XIII Review

Despite the slew of negative comments and harsh reviews, I still have the highest hoppes for this game. What do you guys think? Is Final Fantasy XIII destined to be a critical failure?

Although I usually don't hold reviews in high regards, I'd be lying to you if I said I wasn't a little bit disappointed by them.

Final Fantasy IX was a "step back" per-say.

Final Fantasy VII and VIII were set in a future time while IX was set in more of a Renaissance era.

I read some japanese reviews on amazon and alot of em were saying that " The series is in the morgue". And other similar things. Some others gave it 5 stars but even they said it wasn't as good as 10 its not looking good.

BTW, its not like Western media is so professional and mature, they reported Tiger Wood's affair for more than a month, which is more than the coverage on 9/11.

This game has not been released yet. There are good reviews. Recently, dengeki released a review and said that the game deserved 120/100. That's not to say that FFXIII deserves such a score, but it just goes to show that people are more willing to focus on negative reviews. If famitsu had posted a negative review, people would be talking about it. But because famitsu posted a positive review, people disregarded it?

Do you see what is happening? How many Chinese publications do you know of? How many Japanese reviews have you read? You are only given information that people choose to give you.

Anyways, it doesn't sound like they've played it. The combat in this game is the most intense out of any JRPG I've ever played.

No it doesn't. FFXIII doesn't really even show you a map of the world. Something they should have done imo.

First off, That header is AMAZING. Secondly, here is how I think it's going to go down, two possible outcomes: The game is good: Western reviews give it good scores and everyone is happy while the haters still hate due to the differences. The game is bad: Western reviews agree with Eastern reviews and blast the game, people who have really looked forward to the game will be in denial and keep saying that FF is hated due to popularity. I'm reallllyyyy hoping it's the first outcome, especially after some people have said the story is as good as VI, but all this mixed love for it, I'm just going to have to wait for all the reviews to come and the hype dust to settle.tagyhag

It's funny, despite some of the negative press this game is receiving I can't bring myself to feel any less excited about it. That's probably because I've enjoyed literally every single Final Fantasy game thus far, with some of the most critically bashed (FFIX and XII come to mind) being my favorites.

The key to truly enjoying the series? Realizing that the games are all separate entities that do not need to hold onto any kind of traditions or conventions. Final Fantasy as a series is all about having a new experience with each installment, and so many people fail to see that.

If the users don't think a reviewer gives a game the score it deserves even when most of those users have yet to play the game, then that review source is either untrustworthy, fanboy inclinded or has no credentials.

Oh btw, I have played the game and the review is nonsense.

The only FF game I've played was 12, and I hated it - never came close to finishing it. These reviews for 13 don't surpise me at all, if what I'm hearing is right then it is just a simplified version of 12. No way I'm gonna get suckered by a good review and rush out to buy it before the word on the street gets out...

He stereotyped; he wasn't racist. I don't see anything particularly wrong with his comment as he isn't using "Asian" derogitorily, rather to simply specify the area's media he disagrees with. And no way Tiger Wood's infidelity got more coverage than 9/11. This makes me question if you were even alive in 2001.

A button mashing puzzle game with no real strategy or RPG elements and a plethora of annoying features, game as a whole is little more than a digital novel of sorts- That is just BS. There are no puzzles in the game however there very much is strategy and no button mashing. The digital novel comment is flat out wrong as well as this FF probably hasn't the highest gameplay to cutscene ratio of all FF's since 4. In fact there are actually very few cutscenes in the entire game. "I had heard the opinion that "It's amazing once you get to Chapter 11," but why should you spend 20 or 30 hours on a game to get to the only enjoyable part? Read that carefully. Not sure if it is a translation issue but it sounds like this person never did get to chp11. And for what anyone says about the nature of the game up to that point, few could say that the ride that takes you up to Chapter 11 is not an enjoyable one. Yeah, the game doesn't open up until half way through, but then again you aren't really bothered with that when you are playing because the game progresses and keeps introducing things fairly steadily.Articuno76

Some folks don't like RPGs being linear. I don't really like it. It takes away from the whole role playing aspect.
