This is Ridiculous: Final Fantasy XIII Review

I already lost my interest after watching the gametrailers preview. Sure the cinematics look great but where is the gameplay? The story looks like a snoozer. With so many great games coming out I could really care less if it bombs. I don't have time to play all these games anyways. dc337

But the main reason given was because the game was too linear...

the game is the best RPG I've played this generation, let alone JRPG. If unoriginal, glitchy and ugly stuff like Dragon Age could score a 9.0, i don't see something as smooth, seamless and beautiful as FFXIII that couldn't score the same or even higher.

All this negative stuff is complete and utter nonsense from fanboys or people who just want to be different just to be cool or whatever.

FFXIII is going to get AAA without any bit of doubt about it, quote me on this,FFXIII gonna be the first JRPG that will score AAA.

Some people find it cool to hate something that is popular for a good reason. The Dark Knight was a good example

The game opens up in the later portions, doesn't mean it is boring in the beginning at all.

FF series is constant from the first FF I've played to FFXIII, all of the games I've played they were always linear in the beginning then later in the game they become explorable, it was always like this, the only exception was FFXII.

As for RPGs in general there are alot of linear RPGs too and I don't remember any reviewer who complained of linearity of RPGs at all ( any legit reviewer ).

Next time you take a pot shot how about you try and disguise it better.

I don't know if this game is destined to be a complete failure since I having gotten the chance to try out this game yet, which means my opinion is the most important for me so I won't get too discouraged by all these low score. I really hope I can enjoyed this game despite those bad score.

I don't know about you but when I see a score of 4/10 for a game like FFXIII ( the main FF game ), its just utter bs.

what FF hasn't been linear? only one that wasn't linear was FF12 and that was the weakest FF.

I mean just look at gears 2 and Resistance 2 users scores on Metacritic and see how flawed user scores are.

As for the Chinese mag, it is from an unknown mag and the review is full of flamebait to attract users and they sure did a good job with it.

If I were to completely discard all the positive reviews and accept only the bad ones, based on your own standard of 'evidence', you wouldn't be able to prove me wrong. You have chosen only to recognise the reviews that reinforce your existing expectations, rejecting everything else as being questionable on the basis of 'because'.

You have given no criteria for judging whether a source is valid, only whether you have chosen to recognise it or not.

I honestly think a lot of the FF 13 complaints are blown out of proportion. Then again I like very few JRPGs. jg4xchamp

Did you play the game? and how the hell would you know they didnt like the story and gave it a 4 automaticly? maybe the game isnt all that you shouldnt just assume that just because you perceive the asain media to come across "unprofessional"

Are you joking? Storyline to most RPG gamers is on the highest priority. If the storyline blows, that takes 40% off the score IMO.

When a highly anticipated budgeted project like FFXIII scores like a trashy game called Rogue Warrior I will instantly question the source, below average, are you kidding me ?

The language of the source is irrelevant to me provided that the source is reliable, personally I'd take actual user feedback more seriously than any review site. I remember when Oblivion launched and every site pushed it as being the God of RPGs, even though it was a terrible sequel to Morrowind and targeted a very different audience.

Review sites can be biased, they can be paid off or encouraged to give a higher rating. Although us consumers can be equally as biased, look at our opinion on the macro scale; and you start to get a decent impression. Japan is the home of Final Fantasy, for it to get mixed user reviews says allot to me.

I like ones that I find to be good. Persona Final Fantasy(well except 11 and 12, didn't like those 2 and everything before FF 6, never played the first 5. So i never bothered getting into them since everyone says 6 is vastly superior to those 5). The Tales series is inconsistent, but I like it. Suikoden, Legend of Dragoon, DragonQuest, Skies of Arcadia, Valkyria Chronicles, Mother series, Fire emblem series....and maybe a few more if I remember. Like the chrono series. In general though there are certain aspects of the genre i don't like. jg4xchamp

Oh. I feel the same way to a certain extent. I don't like the Tales series that much. I wouldn't classify Fire Emblem as a JRPG, but I still like it.

Have you played Vagrant Story? You might like it if you like action RPGs.
