I concur. They need to keep the spin offs to a minimal. Mario is agreat platformer series, and a decent racer, and a bleh everything else.

Its called having a mascot. Third parties make all the spinoff stuff and liscense the characters. The trus Mario games are all outstanding. Sure, Nintendo could have put in a different main character, but why do that when that one character represents your entire company?

It's like coplaining about all those mickey Mouse cartoons. Did they have to have those characters? No.

Is it really milking if the games are really that good?

And the topic creator listed like 4 Mario Karts. Ok, so there have been over 10 Ultimas. And 5 Tekkens. And 4 Soul Caliburs. How many Street Fighters? Mortal Kombats? etc etc etc

Mario is Nintendo's cash cow. Its marketable. Whats the big deal?

Plain and simple...the Mario platformers are some of the best ever made, hands down.

The Mario Kart games are very fun. While they may not be the best racing games out there, they are very fun, and for their genre (cartoon racing), they are among the best.

Mario Party games are fun. Were more fun back in the day before they recycled it over and over, but noone has been able to duplicate the success of it. No one.

Mario RPG, Paper Mario, etc. - Again, among the best games of their genre.

Mario Paint - This was the bomb. Paint your own pictures. Oh, ok, I went to far, ok.

its simple...the games are among the best (minus Mario Paint of course). And who can blame them for marketing the plumber like they do?

I guess the same can be said for Ratchet and Clank? How about Halo? Or Metal Gear Solid? Are you jealous Nintendo has a mascot and your favorite system doesnt? Thing is, usually if I hear Mario in the title of a game, I know Nintendo is not going to let me down.

Halo isnt milked as much as Mario.Nintendo also milks Zelda.

Only thing about MOST of those...the characters are all different. Its a different story for most of them (x and x-2 are the exceptions). So they really could have named them something else. But they were meiling the NAME, not the characters themselves.

Thank you! I almost made a grevious error. Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario 1 & 2 were great games. Basically I just don't wanna see thia guy playing any sports. Or having any of these "parties".

3 of those are Mariokarts. It just one series. So you only posted 2 games. Plus Super Paper Mario and Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games and Mario STrikers. SO thats 3 Mario games in a year. Big woop.meetroid8

But I think he is pointing out There is also Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, and, of course, Mario Strikers. Then Mario Basketball. Mario Baseball. Thing is though, all of those are good for what they are...well, with the exception of Mario Basketball. But I thoroughly loved the others, especially playing with friends (I admit, the single player on some of those are weak).

I agree, but its not milking the characters, its milking the name only. Some of the Final Fantasy games would not have sold well if not for the name (Final Fantasy VIII comes to mind...and in some ways IX too)

Yes, sequels are supposed to have different story lines, but usually have some of the same characters, and is usually a continuation of a story line. So far, only 2 FFs do that.

I never understand gamers that don't get sick of series after awhile. I got sick of Mario Kart after it came out on Super Nintendo. How the heck can you keep playing the game generation after generation and still enjoy it?

I could understand if you have never played a kart game at all and its all new and wonderful to you but please.

the only series that doesn't get old for me is FF because eventhough its the next of the series each game is usually completely different though I think games like X-2 and dirge as well as the chocobo racing games get old. but I guess that works with mario too the actual games are fun but the karts and the parties get old fast.
