[QUOTE="dubvisions"]Show me 10 360 buyers and I'll show you 8 unhappy customers.xxThyLordxx

Lets try it. 360 owner since launch. Very happy with my purchase.

X360 owner but sold it due to hardware problems. I was an unhappy X360 owner.

You're not the only one. I know a couple of guys that said they loved the system but after hardware problems-the red circle of death-and a customer service that didn't care, they opted for Sony. Right now it's rough to have a PS3 cuz there are only 2 to 3 games. Before my PS3 brethern get on me let me say I know the GAMES are coming and it took a year for Gears etc etc. Fact remains right now it's rough. I would have liked to pick up a 360 just to have games to play right now but I'm not buying anything that's going to break on me in month 3. ANd since when is buying an extended warranty neccessary for a console? Is this a MS product or a Kia?

[QUOTE="CyanX73"]Stuff like this . And the fact that they won't give you a new system even though the old one breaking was their fault. These consoles are too expensive to have them breaking on you after only five months of use. Heck my SNES still works and I've had it more than a decade! Codename33

remember the disc read errors for the ps2 that went on for 4 years? Remember how EVERYONE still bought the ps2?

My PS2 died just last year. I got a good 7 years out of it before that happened. The DVD player did go like 2 years before though but it was functional for seven years.

Your SNES still works because it's less complex and is based on a cartridge system. The failure rate for systems with cycling parts like DVD/CD drives and hard drives is much higher. MY NES still works and its over 20 years old. I strongly doubt that my xbox, ps2, GC, or 360 will last that long.sonicare

C'mon dog. That was just one example. My 3DO still works. My original Xbox still works and that thing fell from like 8 feet. All I'm saying is I expected more from MS than this. But I guess this shouldn't surprise me. Just look at all the problems they've had/are having with Vista.

Step 1: Go to Best Buy

Step 2: Put your junk in that box.  No seriously, step two is buy a premium 360.

Step 3: When they ask, "Would you like to buy our product replacement plan for $30?" reply, "Yes," in a calm and collected fashion.

Thanks for actually responding w/o resorting to sarcasm or insults. I'll wait to read that the early problems are gone before I plunk down that much money on a 360. At least one 360 owner was willing to lend credence to my arguement. MS treats its customers pretty bad. I think being number one went to their head or something.

In all honesty, it all depends on who you talk to.  I have never had anything but a positive experience with MS customer service, although my last experience was with Xbox, so maybe things have changed.  Still, at least they are doing something about it (the extended warranty, etc), I mean, its not like X360 is the only console to ever have problems.  If memory serves the PS2 didn't do so hot in that regard either.

If you believe the problem is concrete enough that you don't want to purchase one at the moment, thats fine or whatever, but I can think of no console I'd rather have.

You do know that since the launch the failure rate has *seemed* to drop and when is buying an extended warranty not necessary for a console. I mean seriously, if you have something that cost 400 or 500 and your willing to not buy a warranty for it and instead spead the 400 to 500 again is just dumb in my opinion. With that being said, I do think the ps3 has a better track record than the xbox 360 and the ps2 (remember the DRE lol)

Sorry, but that's not a good reason to hold off on the Xbox 360. Buy it from a store that'll include a warranty, that way if it does break (which yes is possible), you can easily get a new system. If you get an Xbox 360, you will not regret it; trust me. Go for it man.

Yeah, the 360's customer support was pretty bad to a lot of people, but does that mean you should turn down the chance to get one of the greatest consoles ever made? (Sure, it can't stand up to the SNES, or the PS1/N64, but still) No, it shouldn't, as you are missing out on a lot of good games that will pass you on by (Mass Effect and Halo 3 being standouts), and since you already own a PS3, I say if you want customer support, I guess the only console you CAN get is the Wii, and then you will be stuck with a console that has crap 3rd-party support RIGHT NOW, and not a console that has excellent 3rd-party support (360).

Everyone have different standards.

But to me, having to buy an extended warranty just for piece of mind is not good enough.

I expect the hardware to last without needing to pay extra for the cover to make sure it's a good unit.

The 360 hardware is a piece of crap period. I don't give two rats fat behinds about, "Had mine since launch, still a happy customer." How many times did you have to send that garbage in for repairs? How much fun is a console when you're having to wait periodically for it to be fixed. For that much money, the thing better work fine right out of the box and not destroy discs, overheat, or give me the red rings of death within a year or two of playing it. Since MS Crapbox 360 can't promise you that, they HAVE to give extended warranties. They know that they sell inferior hardware, but they just don't care. And as far as the "PS2 had problems too" argument. Who cares? That was last gen. The 360 is supposedly NEXT gen, so shouldn't we expect higher quality workmanship from companies introducing hardware in the next gen. I believe Sony has engineered a great console in the PS3. Just a comparison of the problems of the 360 hardware versus the PS3 and it is no contest. It really amazes me how loyal some of you 360 fanboys are. You just can't face the hard truth that your console is garbage, superior game selction or not. What good is this so-called superior game selection when you constantly have to have the console repaired? Big 'ol 360 fanboy dummies.

You are my hero! XBOX 360 = HYPED BY HOLLYWOOD, TV, AND INTERNET.

XBOX 360 owners trash the PS3 because they're afraid that they invested the wrong console.

I couldn't have said it better myself. MS has better games right now but I've had 2 different 360s fail on me within 6 months, and even after taking so many precautions to keep them from failing. Sorry, MS your console has better games no doubt, but your hardware is a piece of crap.

Yeah but that means paying good money to get a warranty which will only last for up to 3 years. I am sure Sony has a lifetime warranty on the PS3, seems logical considering the price of the system. Lifetime warranties should be on every console for no extra cost.

Some people? Dude...THOUSANDS of people. And these aren't people in some other country or something. I only need to go next door and witness firsthand a frustrated owner of a broken 360. If this were a few dozen people, no big deal but thousands dude. Heck there's a whole thread on the 360 forum dedicated to broken 360s. And don't get me wrong, I'm no fanboy (despite my sig ;) ). I owned an Xbox and loved it. In fact, once I got it I played it more than I did my PS2. I'm also a big Halo fan so this really sux.

Thousands out of millions...hmm doesn't seen terrible to me.

I wonder how many people had disc read errors on PS2, yet people still continued to buy them.

I am not sure why you are bringing up the PS2 DRE because that doesn't change the fact the 360 has problems. You can't justify the 360 malfunctions by yelling PS2 in its defense. The DRE problem was no where near as bad as the problem some people are having with the 360.

Agreed. I have not once in my lifetime ever purchased an extended warranty for a console, including my PS2's which both designs still work. Especially with Nintendo, I have always had peace of mind that their products would never break and so far they have held true to high quality standards that other companies need to start following.

Actually that statement is not true. You see with hardware and software in the computer world, the more times its produced in a mass manufacturing environment and released to the market, it is expected that the company developing it has tested each individual product to some extent before putting it out on the market. The 360 has been out for over a year now and still the reports of hardware problems prove just how piss poor Microsoft's hardware development team is at testing their product to make sure it complies with a high standard of quality, which it doesnt. One thing I think Sony and Nintendo opted to do with the extra year was stress test their consoles, putting them under various environmental conditions and such to make sure that the hardware will last for over a years worth of gameplay. If Sony had rushed the PS3 a year ahead of the competition, it would be in the exact same predicament the 360 is in. And I pray to god that Microsoft fixes this NOW, not just for their sake but for the fanboys who are actually loyal to MS and will buy the games for their system. I wish no ill on Microsoft but seriously, their whole history is riddled with quality control problems, right from the dawn of Windows up until now.

I am not 100% sure yet, however anyone selling a console 600-700 bucks might want to give the customers a lifetime warranty, although it might be limited if it was like most products are.

Best example: Windows Vista. Thousands of people tried to legally download it from the Microsoft site and it didn't allow them, even for people who purchased it in advance. LOL. Micro$oft.

Since MS customer support has been brought into this, I have to say that Sony customer support is TERRIBLE! My PSP broke and I couldn't even get ahold of them after 5 calls and 3 emails. My friend got ahold of MS customer support on his first try, but he got put on hold.

[QUOTE="SpruceCaboose"] Welcome to a one year warranty, with the option to extend it indefinitely.DSgamer64

Yeah but that means paying good money to get a warranty which will only last for up to 3 years. I am sure Sony has a lifetime warranty on the PS3, seems logical considering the price of the system. Lifetime warranties should be on every console for no extra cost.

O.o it has a lifetime warranty? I never knew about that.

I am not 100% sure yet, however anyone selling a console 600-700 bucks might want to give the customers a lifetime warranty, although it might be limited if it was like most products are.

It's one year warranty that I belive can be extended just like the 360 warranty.

Yea well, pobody's nerfect :D
Trust me, you want to see terrible customer support, try having to deal with the outsourcing people who work for Toshiba, holy hell you can never understand a word they say and they never can help you with your problems. Well that doesnt also help that Toshiba computers are piles of scrap plastic and silicone that arent worth a dime but man their tech support is crap.

Copied from PlayStation 3 forum:

This is proof that history always repeats itself! And why I wont get a 360.

PS2 was known as the best selling console of all time, with the best games, yet look at this news posting from the beginning.

Don't buy that PlayStation
It's overpriced and has no online access, and hardly any good games are available to play on it.

- - - - - - - - - - - -
By Jim Lynch

Oct. 27, 2000 | Whether or not Sony was sincere in its claim that a supply crisis led it to cut its initial shipments of the PlayStation2 to just 500,000 units, there's little question that the corporation was successful in the arena of hype marketing. Lines of obsessed PlayStation fans were a news staple Wednesday. But is the so-called superconsole really worth staying up all night for?

No. The PS2 is not the revolutionary device that Sony's marketing department would have you believe. Don't get me wrong; it's definitely the most powerful video-game machine on the planet right now. But that's not enough.

The PS2's stats are certainly impressive; it's got hardware power to burn. But so what? There's just not much software available that can take advantage of it. The games that are being released at the same time as the system don't rise much, if at all, above games available for Sega's rival (and cheaper) Dreamcast video-game system.

And don't expect a huge number of quality games anytime soon. Sony has reversed positions with Sega and stupidly released a system that is in many ways a game developer's nightmare. Sega, learning from its Saturn debacle, went out of its way to make the Dreamcast easy to develop games for. But Sony, intoxicated with success from the first PlayStation, forgot the first rule of the video-game industry: Software sells systems. If you make it hard for developers to produce good games then there's no reason for people to buy the system. This oversight has already cost Sony some goodwill -- developers are howling about how hard it is to create games for the system. In an interview with Time magazine, John Carmack, one of the developers behind such massively popular games as Doom and Quake, said that the "PS2 is definitely more powerful than Dreamcast. But it's less convenient to extract performance from it."

Sony is also under the mistaken impression that including the ability to play DVD movies is a huge selling point. But true technophiles and hardcore gamers probably already have DVD drives. I'm a good case in point. I already own a Sony DVD player, so I could not care less if the $299 PS2 can play movies. I'd rather pay less and get a machine that just plays games instead.

In comparison, the Sega Dreamcast sells for $149 and has a giant library of games already available. Sega also has an online game network, Seganet. The Dreamcast comes with a built-in 56K modem and Sega will soon release a broadband (cable/DSL) adapter for it. (The PS2 does not ship with a modem.) Sega is banking on the appeal of multiplayer online gaming, even going so far as to rebate the entire cost of a Dreamcast to players who sign up for Seganet. And for the first time ever we actually have cross-platform online gaming -- Seganet lets Dreamcast players compete against PC players in games like Quake 3. Sony, on the other hand, is promising online gaming later on but currently has nothing to offer purchasers of the PS2.

In addition to Sega, Sony also has two 800-pound gaming gorillas breathing down its neck: Nintendo and Microsoft. Nintendo plans to release its powerful GameCube system next year. Don't downplay Nintendo's chances either. Despite having a rocky time with the N64, Nintendo has some of the most lucrative franchises in video-game history on its side (Zelda, Super Mario Brothers, Metroid, etc.) and a superb marketing machine.

The real wild card here, though, is Microsoft, which plans to release its X-Box game system next year. The Xbox will have even more powerful hardware than the PS2, and Microsoft has the marketing muscle and rapport with developers to do the PS2 real damage. Unlike Sony, Microsoft is taking great pains to make sure the X-Box is easy to make games for -- developers will also be able to easily port games from the PC to the X-Box, thus insuring a huge supply of games.

So should you feel bad if you can't get a PS2 right away? No way. If you wait a while you'll avoid all the lines and scuffling in stores and you'll end up with a much better selection of games. And if you wait long enough for the upcoming systems from Microsoft and Nintendo, you'll probably see a cut in the price of the PS2 as Sony tries to ward off both threats.

Hardcore gamers aren't known for their patience, but this is one occasion when playing it smart may mean not playing at all. For now.

Stuff like this . And the fact that they won't give you a new system even though the old one breaking was their fault. These consoles are too expensive to have them breaking on you after only five months of use. Heck my SNES still works and I've had it more than a decade! CyanX73

This is the main reason i will not get the Xbox360.Its not worth the money. A lot of people who owns the 360 is living out of fear because they feel that their 360 will break down on them really soon and they can't prevent it from happening at all. Once your system get bricked there is no way to get it fix unless you send it to microsoft and even if you did it still won't guarantee it will work perfectly fine. I know a  few xboxfanboys already paid $140 dollars for the fixed because their warrranty is over. They are basically paying $560 dollars combined for xbox360 that shouldnt have that many problems. And the issues still doenst get resolve because Microsoft is'nt doing anythin to adress it..Most of the Lemmings blamed on eachother rather the source of the problem.

[QUOTE="bigpatvoodoodad"]The 360 hardware is a piece of crap period. Serge-Chrono

Are you calling everyone who owns a 360 dumb. Also, when people say they had theirs since launch, they mean that specific console.

Let's see where to begin....No I never stated "everyone who has a 360 is dumb". I said big ol FANBOY dummies. However, let me set my opinion straight, with all the known defects of the 360 hardware, to buy one given that knowledge IS DUMB. You should expect what you get, which will ultimately be the red rings of death, sooner or later (ask many former 360 owners and they'll tell you it is definitely sooner than they wanted). And as for your launch comment, I realize that was what is meant. You see, I have a college degree and a proficient grasp of the English language. I suspect alot of the comments regarding, "Had mine since launch, no complaints" are of a dubious nature. In other words, they are full of crap. And, supposing that they haven't had any major problems, in itself a slight miracle given MS's track record, it is only a matter of time. So, keep defending the Xbox 360. While you're doing that, I'll wager that you are subconsciously saying to yourself, "Gosh I hope my 360 isn't next!" Be afraid, be very afraid.

I've mailed my 360 in 3 or 4 times so far, all for basically free thanks to the warranty and extended warranty, courtesy of Gamestop and Microsoft. Microsoft may be the Evil Empire, but they take care of their subordinates.BranKetra

NO worries Branketra im not bashing you, but 3 or 4 times!!!!!!!!! and i know so many other people on these forums have had to get theirs replaced more than twice. 360 fans in this topic and all over the forums are screaming that all you need is warranty. Of course you need warranty, but most of us never want to use it, 360 fanboys are actually investing in it!!!!! its most probably stapled on the console waiting for the next time its gunna be used.

I dont understand why u guys  consider it normal to have a piece of defective hardware. How can you go out and buy something as expensive as an xbox360 and KNOW its gonna break.... Is the game line up that good? I want a 360 too but i will never be able to pay for a console, that is sooo unreliable... just face it the hardware is crap, pray that MS becomes kinder to you subordinates, and hope they send you a proper piece of hardware once you send back the one sitting in front of you.
