The new r9-290 is, for the price of a ps4, grossly more powerful.

Most of you already have a computer...many of you have a computer this can go in. This thing will chew up consoles and spit them out with no remorse!

"Next Gen" consoles are antiquated before launch. I say this not as anti console, but as pro pc. Consoles are pc's anyways, just with less power and flexibility. And, YES, this is just a GPU that costs as much as an entire console, but as many people have computers anyway, this could bring "next gen" to you before the new consoles release, and you can enjoy a greater library with greatly enhanced visuals, that will last beyond next gen consoles lifetime. Flame on gentlemen, flame on. Or better yet, jump console ship for a superior experience.

The key part here is that you cna get a GPU that's severla times more powerful than a console TODAY for the same price... in 2 years? You could pick up an entire PC for the same price.

But ultimately console gamers won't ever listen to you. They are like the masses of walmart shoppers. They only care about the upfront cost. You can scream about cheaper games, no paying for multi-player, and cheaper hardware as time goes on, but many of them won't care.

They've bought into the marketing hype machine from Sony or MS. They might as well be Apple drones at this point.

Mmmmm. PC gaming IS better... once you buy the crazy expensive graphics card, and install it yourself, and tweak your settings, and deal with any issues that come up, and are willing to upgrade in a few years time when this card won't run the latest and greatest.

Why is it so hard to understand that this isn't for everyone?

I have a decent gaming PC in addition to my consoles but not bothered putting in the money and effort of having a "bleeding edge" PC. My PC games look pretty comparable to my console games really. And that's fine. The whole twattish "master race" thing is just a few nerds on forums anyway. The majority of gamers are always excited by next gen consoles, that includes most PC gamers too since consoles always get amazing exclusives.

You can play a larger library of exclusives, if that's your concern! Welcome to the club. You are now officially sold. ;)

Please stop making pc gamers look bad. We all know pcs can be capable of producing better graphics than consoles if you put the money in. Sheesh.

Now Xbone, you should deffinitely get a PC over that. Since Xbone and PC share libraries.

Personally I prefer consoles....the exclusives seem to be more my style...Why are pc gamers so insecure? why do they constantly need to bash the consoles? When someone has the need to bash it means they are 100% insecure.. They look at the console's top exclusives and wish they had them on their pc. They have missed the last gens best games. they will miss next gens best games as well.

You pc lot seem to be missing the point many people have pc's but as a pro pc gamer you should understand that the logic is that if your graphic card is upgraded then the system you have may bottle neck it anyway and still not get anywhere near ps4/xbox graphics, so in the end your'll have to upgrade your pc, and the fact still remains for the money to buy a ps4 and an xbox one i'm getting a complete system, and i'm not buying just a part of a system. you can say this graphic card smashes them to pieces but if the computer is old it ain't going to just with a new graphics card.

Do PCs have better graphics than consoles? Yes without a doubt.

Are PCs better for day to day tasks and of more use than a console? Yes definitely

Are PCs better for just straight up gaming? IMHO No.

I'd always choose my consoles for gaming, both for the exclusives they have and when playing multi-player games. Sometimes you just want their ease of use. I don't want to have to look to see if my rig will play a certain new release or if I need to upgrade or tweak my settings just to get it running well.

I've never really understood PC gamers in System Wars. Personally think we should just have a Console Wars forum and let Hermits have their own section where they just say how great their games look and then agree with each other.

even if it weren't for exclusives I would still prefer consoles. PC gaming will never be as straight forward, fast, cheap and simple as just putting a game and wait for it to boot.

If we were paying 400$ for a gpu that could only match the ps4 gpu speeds then surely we would be getting robbed.However we are not paying 400$ for a gpu that is as powerful as the playstation 4. The r9 290 believe it or not is benchmarking equal to the r9 290x. And the r9 290x is 3 times the speed of a playstation 4.

I really dont see how consolites are this blind when one says "you are paying the entire price of a ps4 for just the gpu" while not factoring the actual performance of these 2 systems. I agree fully that if we hermits were paying 400$ for ps4 level graphics, Then we would be getting robbed.

But if you factor in how much MOREEEEEEEE performance the 290 actually has over the ps4 much less for the Bone. It actually comes out to around $133.3 dollars for a price to performance ratio compared to the PS4. ( $400 / 3). We divide by 3 because the 290 is 3x as fast as the ps4.

This is incredible bang for buck. And consolites should be jelly...... pay 10$ more for aftercooler solution with overclocking +mantel coming soon = all of a sudden the next gen consoles are looking like a bad buy.

But as they say, You get consoles for the games, not the graphics.

Well the games ps4 has do not interest me. Im very satisfied with what pc has coming out and i know for sure i will be at 1080p ultra settings with to much frames to count

Not all of us have gaming pc's, so to entice us over to pc you can't all come in and be going o well i can buy a Graphics Card for the same as ps4 and it's 2x beterr performance, but in reality it isn't

You need a case, a new motherboard, decent enough ram, blu ray drive, an OS, a power supply, a cpu, controller/mousw&keyboard

The ps4 comes with a case, a graphics card, ram, an OS, a controller everything you need to play a game right out the box which out of the box is pretty much the same machine for 7years which developers are always going to use.

a pc gamer cannot say that there system will last that long and the real question is

can i buy a whole pc for the same price???? the answer is no.

Gee, I didn't know a video card is all you need to game. So if I order that video card alone from newegg and I take it out of the UPS box can I plug the video card to my tv and start gaming? What kind of cotroller does it use?

i posted this on another forum as well. and i don't game on it. some people like myself prefer playing on a console. Its not about power. even fanboys know this, they just don't admit it. its about experience. I get a better gaming experience on consoles

Seems like there are lots of High-End GPUs out there for PCs, and hardly any games that actually make use of them.

TFLOPS and resolutions don't mean anything unless you make a game that actually pushes every last drop of juice out of them, is PC exclusive and is actually worth playing.

Well, you could still need all of that if are running a PC that looks like it came from the Ark.

PC gamers are going to continue to buy PC parts that are expensive but powerful and the value of a PC is going to vary depending on how the person built it and the direction technology moves. In some cases it will provide much more value per dollar and in some cases less (people often build "cheap" PCs that break down because they skipped on parts). That's not really news nor is it an argument to why PC gaming "spanks" console gaming.

Same price with PS4 my ass, you only buy a graphic card!? What about the motherboard? Ram? Keyboard? Mouse? Monitor?

Stop saying PC is cheaper than PS4, everybody knows PC are a lot more expensive than PS4, thats why it has better graphics duh

Well, to be fair, ALL of those ARE arguments which are constantly used to bash PCs and PC gamers. I liked the Taco Bell touch.

On the subject matter: the 290s pretty damn amazing, but I really want to wait until we see how it runs with aftermarket coolers. I just don't think I could stand such a hot GPU.

Am I the only person here that thinks graphics are the least important thing this upcoming gen? Because the majority of the graphical technology we are seeing is basically being used to give older games face lifts while adding little to nothing to the actual gameplay..

This has always been true with PC vs consoles, but I've always felt that limitation often breeds innovation. Look at some of the stuff ND did on the PS3 with Uncharted and TLOU. Amazing graphics on a device that is already seven years obsolete by some standards. GTA5, looks pretty sweet. Granted, those games would look far more impressive running on a high end rig, but still you have to appreciate what a good developer can do with the hardware limitations they are given.

I think it's amazing value for an enthusiast level card. One of the only enthusiast level cards I'd give strong consideration myself.
