All RTS look the same to me in the end, but hey, thats probably why I don't play them!
Halo Wars looks ok, I guess. But I don't think it will change my stance of RTS games.
halo wars is nothing compared to the unbeatable mountain of amazing games strategy games on pc.jt8b2z
so youve played it.

Obviously, there are many great RTS games on the PC, the PC created the genre. However, I think Halo Wars may be a great game, and I've been asking hermits not to place judgement before taking a look at all the great things about the game.

no, that is obviously just my opinion on how it looks. Thats all we have to argue about right now.

Agreed and how does it hurt the 360 to get some RTS games on a console ?Seems the first two have come out good and of course RTS on 360 will never match what the PC's do with them.
Hows Madden on PC ? Same dif man - lets keep it real.
i have no idea what halo wars will be like but if it has the two races as different races and actually plays in different ways, then i'd say it would be at least pretty good. i dont like rts games that have all the opposing factions looking different but playing a lot similar except with some variations. big changes between races like in starcraft or warcraft would be great and imo that would make halo wars a competitor for rts. but if the two sides play the same i wouldn't look twice at it unless it's being ported to the pc (cause i at least want smoother controls and hotkeys)
And why does that matter?
You're not making much of a point, you know. I'm not bashing CoH, it's a great game and I love it, and I'm not particularly hyped for HW, but just saying "a game we haven't seen a single in-depth preview of is shallow compared to one of the best recent games in the genre" is like saying that the steak you saw a picture of is less tasty than the one in your plate.

we saw a ten minute preview of Halo Wars....and that demonstration is even less then ten minutes.....yet they dont once talk about how good the graphics are and how strong the animations are....they talk about the new features they have in the game.
I think the demo they showed off just kinda sucked. I dont know who they thought they would impress by having marines stand in a line against covenant, also standing in a line, shooting at eachother. Big whoop. Never seen that before.
Show us a cover system. Some destructible environments. Some squad-behaviour. Anything other than two small groups shooting at eachother 'til one is dead.
When he said "now is a good time to show off our beautiful graphics..." i laughed as well. There was nothing graphically impressive at all.

What would a Halo game be without the Flood? So that would make 3 races that would all have to be different.
However, going with the Halo fiction, including the Flood would screw up the entire timeline because the first encounter with the Flood was on Installation 04. Halo Wars takes place just after the UNSC retook Harvest, so without screwing with the entire Halo story there could only be two races.

And you consider a ten minute preview of a RTS an in-depth one? They're hyping up the game. Let them show off the graphics. Console people get excited over that. Does that mean it's not a deep game?
If you think you can truly judge depth from there... well, I don't know what to say.

I really hope thats not how they expect people to play the game.
in games like COH...using cover, and flanking is essencial to win, as well as building field defences, and guarding points on the map you capture....
Here is the 10-minute video http://www.gamespot.com/video/935835/6177692/halo-wars-official-movie-1
Personally, I think the graphics and animations look really nice. There are also some nice shading and lighting effects. I really like how nice the bases look. And as the designers point out, the bases look like places people actually live and work.
I think the game will benefit from being basedin the Halo universe, though gameplay may be similartothe Command & Conquer games, which for me, is a good thing.

in a ten minute demo they dont show anything on gameplay?
the simple fact that they still had groups of soldiers lined up across from each other already makes it feel outdated.

You're still not making a point. Your whole argument is fundamentally flawed in a very simple, undebatable way: You're taking a preview of an unfinished game, where at no point did they really delve into the actual combat/strategy system because it was a graphical/environment demonstration where they did not show any hard information on possible tactics. Then you're claiming the game is shallow because you have no way to gauge it's depth, and you compare it to a video of a finished game, where the focus is on depth.
If you want another analogy, you're claiming that a barrel is shallow because when you gauged it, it came shallow. Of course, the lid was on, so you didn't actually see the inside.
For all we know, Halo Wars is the most shallow RTS ever. For all we know, Halo Wars is the deepest RTS ever. We simply don't know. Don't be a fanboy.

graphical demonstration or not....they still played the game....they used several different types of units, actually went out and fought, build units....they even used a special ablity or to.
all Im saying is that there no reason to hype this game for having Halo in its name.....sure it can turn out better then what they showed....but is there any indictation of that? no....none at all.....if they wanted to impress people with the game....they should have talked about what seperates the game from other RTS's...not talked about how Halowish it was.

Is there any reason to NOT hype the game? The argument goes both ways. You're basically criticizing the preview in terms of how much did you care for the content, you're not talking about the game at all. It's good to know.
Again, your argument is pointless. Your comparison is pointless, your thread is pointless.
Halo Wars looks like RTS for dummies, which might not be a bad thing. I love my RTSs (Warcraft, Starcraft, Dawn of War), but I think that more people would enjoy them if they were more mainstream. Perhaps this will serve as a gateway RTS game for consumers. Kestastrophe
I think Halo Wars will be perfect for you

yes there is....the fact that most games score well below what we consider a good score here at SW (8.0 or higher) makes a random game not worth hyping....and do you actually think this game would be hyped if it wasnt about Halo...
a ten minute long demo is a excellent way to judge how good a game looks.....it probably wont be completly accurate of the final game....but its far better then judging from a non-comentated 30 sec. gameplay clip.
The fact is....based on the preview currently given to us....there is not a single feature that seperates this from any other RTS.....which is why its not worthy of hype...may that change....yes....but is their any indictation...no.

Hell yeah. I'm a hermit, but I'm a Halo fan too. And by God that game didn't look like Halo. All the units were frickin' static. Where's the chaos of Halo? Where's the flanking and the cover?
It looked like CnC. And that ain't a good thing.
Playing an RTS without a mouse seems like it'd either be extremely frustrating or the game would be doing too much for me.
I wonder how BWii is going to control

no it seemed to control prety well. it just didnt seem great from the gameplay standing point.

Yeah, I'm not much of Clancy fan myself. But I'm an RTS fan. COH, rocks my socks. Was about to vomit blood when I saw Halo Wars. There's not much out on EndWar right now, so I can't say. I don't even know if Endwar is coming to the PC.
But I read it's not using the top down view like most RTSs. I also read that it's going to use cameras on your squad leaders (ala crosscom I'm gathering), but what really takes the cake for me is that it has F****** VOICE RECOGNITION.
WTF. That's just wild.
Wish they'd release some gameplay vids so we get a better picture. All they have is a dev. interview on IGN.

age of empires was good...but none of their recent stuff has been particulray great....
what do you mean "not on a real time strategy game"...RTS's are the only genere where graphics almost dont matter at all....2d RTS play the same way as 3d RTS...and what do you mean "not focusing on game mechanics"...they showed an entire battle....they even showed and described numerous units....
what do you mean I did a a terrible comparison? You have yet to give me any reason at all as to why the game isnt shallow...Like I said....may it get better in the future....yes.....is their any indictation of it....not at all.

Yeah, I thought FSW had some good ideas but it seemed too slow paced. Brothers in Arms seemed like a better squad based shooter. But how the devs are classifying EndWar is that its an RTS and not a Tactical T/FPS. IGN Dev Interview reads that its army based control not just squad based control.
I raised my eyebrows when I heard Ubisoft was willing to do something completely radical. Maybe they're sick of ports.

well there is a paradox here....the more units they let you control at once the less "close up" the game can really be....you can zoom in very far in World In Conflict...but it puts you at a huge disadvantage....
so if they want to have the game be played at a really close up view...they will need to have less units.
