This is why we don't need Forza or Gran Turismo!

Pc gaming is the home of sim racing. rFactor 2 is coming soon, bringing with it a huge mod community that will take it even further than we've ever seen. We have iRacing which is the king of realism. And pretty soon we're also going to have C.A.R.S. from Slightly Mad studios, moving off on their own from EA to make this excellent looking game. All images are compressed so as to actually be seen, click for full size.

I wonder what the Forza devs could do If they werent held down by that old piece of plastic they are forced to develop on.

Probably produce next gen graphics like these, while having weather effects and true sim physics.

I still think Forza and GT hold there own. I can't imagine lugging over a pc to the living area just to play a racing title.

Forza and Gran Turismo still has a place. Those games tend to be more broad and try to please a wider audience. While PC sims tend to be concentrated on smaller parts and/or divisions of racing.

The problem with Gran Turismo 5 had from launch was that they tried to do too much.

That is what's so good about rFactor and potentially C.A.R.S as well. With so many mods for every racing type and many supercars and regular cars it's hard to beat.

I saw some PC racers but I found them not as exciting and content packed as Forza or GT.

why not??? The PC is better IMO for Sim racing. You can connect and program anything onto the PC to control the game.

You don't have to worry about dumb rescritions the first party inplaces on wheels or other accesories.

Actually their business model looks interesting, the minimun pay it's 10 euros and you get a free copy of the final game and plus earnings of development

That C.A.R.S. (which is a pain in the ass to type) one Looks really nice, it it looks naked w/o hands on the wheel 'n such.. Rfactor2 looks very much like an old game though, lighting is quite 'meh'... : /

Back at C.A.R.S., the sounds for that first car, sounded like it was just too loud for a microphone to record, distorting it... or do real race cars sounds terrible like that from inside?

It will be geared towards racing cars when it releases, the big difference is that the community can create any new cars and tracks to add to the main game, from every single racing competition out there to road cars,so no,it won´t feature like 20 different versions of a very samey Skyline for instance, that helps a lot to boast the number of cars in those games mentioned.

looks ok, will give it a try, but sorry, as much as I find rFactor and Iracing acceptable, but admit it, all rfactor and Iracing players wish they can play GT5 or Forza .

fFactor vs GT5 side by side I will cease my case there.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56NZjm7Wqns

and if you don't know already, racing is more than just F1 and nascar, and 95% racing gamers don't have the time to partice a week just to have one lap race.

No, what we want is the polish. We want variety and choice of cars and tracks as well. For me in rFactor, I play F1, Indy, sports car, Porsches, Corvettes, Classic F1, classic Indycars, rally racing and many more. I play tracks such as Silverstone, Hockenheim, Spa, Road America, Road Atlanta, Lime Rock, Laguna Seca, Paul Recard, Fiji, Suzuka, Nordschleife, Toronto, Detroit, Indy, St. Petersberg, Watkins Glen, Mid Ohio and many many other tracks. And we can choose whether we want to play a one lap race or do an enduro. It's all here already, now all I want is better graphics, more polish, better handeling models and better lighting and textures. C.A.R.S. and rFactor 2 are offering me that.

For everything you listed, I can only agree on more realistic handling, I played Iracing and it does offer(i'm no racing fan) but for course types, how you get rally, drift, drag, city course racing in rFactor and Iracing?

and speaking of graphic, not sure if you are crazy, rFactor 2 does offer you many things except graphic, texture, lighting, weather, are many grades inferior to Forza4 and gt5 hell even forza3 looks miles better. the only remarkable aspect on rfactor2's graphic is car model which means jack since all the enviorment and post processing effect look like crap, put your hope to high and you will disappointed ---> mark my words for it, there won't be a single racing game reach gt5's knee anytime soon,

Polish is the one thing I do give to the console racers. That said Cars is looking very good in that department. When you get to variety though, did you even look at the courses I said, there is that plus many rally courses as well as hill climbs and drag races. There are ovals, road courses, city races, and drifting. That is all in rFactor so I can't say about iracing, though i believe many of the same types are there. When you talk about these games you have to say that the mods make it. They have unlimited potential in that way. The graphics will look as good as someone makes them to be.

thing is the likes of these are less acccesible while extremely realistic and im sure one of the ones you posted requires a subscription fee which isnt feasable for everyone.

Also not everyone will have steering wheel setups either, which to be honest is around 1/2 of the actual sim aspect the only reason i dont have one is because i dont have the room but instead i've opted for the wireless speed wheel just released.
