I love Tim's works, but crediting him for Monkey Island is too much, he had very little input into it, the lead designer/writer and creator of Monkey Island 1-2 is Ron Gilbert
Och...and Sid Meier is the one who is equivalent of American Miyamoto

Pretty much. Miyamoto has created some of the most iconic figures in gaming. Schafer hasn't. Well, what was the last iconic video game character that you remember from a PC game? Sure, there are plenty of notable ones, but none that are representative of PC gaming. The 'game developer's mascot' tradition is more console-oriented in nature.Actualy...Tim is far better at creating characters, a side character in one of his games has more personality than all Miyamoto characters put together.[QUOTE="VanHelsingBoA64"][QUOTE="IronBass"]Nope. Not even close.SkyWard20
What Miyamoto does best is create mascots, not actual characters. Big difference.
Anyway it's hard to compare them, Miyamoto always was brilliant when it comes to gameplay, while at the same time he's very weak storyteller and writer, Schafer is almost direct reverse of that: he's amazing storyteller, creating awesome worlds, filled with great and unique characters and brilliant writing. At the same time his gameplay skills are limited to puzzles (and even there he's not among the best), make him branch out from puzzle design and he fails like it was seen in Psychonauts
No. :| No man has created as many classic games as Miyamoto in America. If anyone is close to Miyamoto in the West, I would say Warren Spector.-PuLseSpector? he created one game: Deus Ex :]
Meier is comparable to Miyamoto, insane ammount of games, influence on western games as big as Miyamoto had on japanese devs etc.
The only people who dislike Tim Schafer are either
No wonder sheep hate him.
And strangely enough Deathspank has almost no hypeI love Tim's works, but crediting him for Monkey Island is too much, he had very little input into it, the lead designer/writer and creator of Monkey Island 1-2 is Ron Gilbert

You SERIOUSLY need to get a PC and play Full Throttle, its amazing. (Day of the Tentacle was also pretty good).
DUDE...GRIM FANDANGO thats my personal favorite :P[QUOTE="AdrianWerner"]And strangely enough Deathspank has almost no hype damn forgot about Meier, and I never heard of Deathspank(Link please :D) and oh what is Ron Gilbert up to these days?I love Tim's works, but crediting him for Monkey Island is too much, he had very little input into it, the lead designer/writer and creator of Monkey Island 1-2 is Ron Gilbert

- we hardly know anything about it
- it's not on consoles, so press doesn't give a damn :)

DeathSpank = Monkey Island meets Diablo. Second part is quite true especially since brutal legend had a huge amount of hype only when it was known it was Tim Schafer's next gameThe only people who dislike Tim Schafer are either
- People who use sales to decide how good a game is
- Or people who never played one of his games
No wonder sheep hate him.
ChrisSpartan117
we don't hate him, it's just that you can't compare him at all to Miyamoto. No offense, Tim Schafer is basically a nobody outside of game forums. I don't think there are ANY western developers on Miyamoto's level that have the same level of influence, success, etc.

Well speaking about influence on other games RichardGarriot trumps all :)I forgot to mention another crucial thing, TWO of Tim Schafer's games made it to the list of Gamespot's GREATEST GAMES OF ALL TIME, Day of the Tentacle and Grim Fandango!!!

He is a good dev, but I don't see what people see in Brutal legend. I don't want to play, let alone watch a Jack Black movie.
I'd love those adventure games to be rereleased on Steam, id buy them in a second.

I can almost garentee you that the remake of the origional will be on steam.

good stuff, I wish there where a lot more graphic adventure games still being made.
It looks like Lucasarts may grant your wish if the sell of the remake of monkey island meet their expectations http://blogs.watoday.com.au/digital-life/screenplay/2009/06/18/bygeorgeitsm.htmlI'd love those adventure games to be rereleased on Steam, id buy them in a second.

I dont know why, maybe back in the day when the guys that did the article were little kids. I'm 17 and i thought the games were horrible and kinda boring, day of the tentacle was alright, but it gets dull.Kokuro_KunYou just wished that you could wield a gun and gun everyone down in those games, in other words, you played the wrong game genre
Ok miyamoto, he hasn't really done anything as profound as schaffer. Mario, Yoshi, all these characters don't make much sense, they aren't great characters but they are very very iconic. As for the games, after OoT, Super Mario 3, MP on GCN, how much further can those series be taken? Another party game?
Schaffer just keeps on coming up with new brilliant games with great plots that really draw you in. At this point the nintendo characters of the last century are skating on thin ice, bordering on blind repetition.clembo1990
Yep, the reason why miyamoto's characters are so memorable for decades is because they bear the name "Nintendo" on them
