Mostly, say in an RPG, I hate when there's a cutscene of your character doing some ridiculous acrobatics, killing off a group of enemies in the blink of an eye. Then once you get control of that character, we're all stuck in the 'line up to kill the enemy' stance... and that character never does anything like the cutscene.
Or when theres a bad*** character you've been fighting throughout the game, then once they decide to join you, all their sats suck. What the hell?
Timed missions without reason are idiotic. If the place isn't going to explode or my ride doesn't have to go anywhere, let me stroll through this area as slow as I damn well please.
Escort missions have always been bad, I can only remember doing a handful of them that I enjoy out of thousands littered in each game.
Destructable environments. Unless this whole city is made out of cardboard, I don't see why 5 rounds into the side of a building is causing its east wall to collapse.
Mostly in RPGS. I hate when characters are walking through extremely tough environments in skimpy clothes. I doubt anyone would survive walking on a narrow path with an ocean of lava on either site of them. Or a girl in a tank top and a mini skirt strolling through a mountainside at below zero weather during a blizzard.
Looting people's houses and they just don't care. Or even worse how everyone's house always seems to be unlocked for you in JRPGs. I'm walking along a pathway killing off bandits then come up to this lone house in the woods and -- twist the handle and walk right in? Does this person not realise these woods are infested with bandits?
Games where the day/night cycle lasts about 5 minutes. If you want the game to seem realsitic, go at least half an hour for a whole day to pass.
Lasers. I don't know why, but I never liked them. I'd choose a gun with live ammunition before I'd go for a pewpewpew gun anyday.
