All it is going to take is a few hours from your life and if you carefully read this article and read a few other guides about building a PC and overclocking then you will have yourself a really good gaming PC for 400 pounds INCLUDING AN OS.

Before somebody converts that to dollars just FYI a 40GB PS3 costs 300 pounds and an 80 or 60GB one is around 400.

That site played games after making a PC for 400 and it MAXED OUT COD4 and world in conflict.The PC plays crysis in high in low resolution and medium-high in high resolution.And low resolution means 720p BTW.

From the article above,

So does anybody still have any doubts about PC gaming being as cheap as consoles but giving substantially more gaming performance?

Then you'd better make sure there's no burn marks or anything on your hardware if you send it back for a replacement.

The chances are slim to none.

Old hardware couldn't detect hardware temperature, but nowadays they do and shutdown when it reaches a certain temperature.

Manufacturers clock their CPU's and GPU's to a point they think is stable and won't burn with the cooling that's supplied with the CPU/GPU. The C2D 6600, 6800, etc are basically the same products with higher clocks and a better fan that comes with it.

Something has to go drastically wrong if something burns without an overclock.

Like keeping the case near the radiator in winter :P or hoovering the dust inbetween the blades of the CPU fan or... :D

And you do know that heat is not your only limitation in overclocking?

Nothing, and what does that have to do with computers getting better at shutting down before the hardware burns without overclocking?

A not-so-good PSU, limitations of different types of multiplier and clock speed combinations on the motherboard, and that's just about all I can think of right now.

The same reason people think strategy games aren't available on consoles even though CaC:3, TloTR: BFME 2 and civlization revolution and upcoming Red Alert 3 is on them.

Not really dangerous if you know what your doing. But it does viod your warranty. There are a number of manufactures offering facotry overcloack parts at competitive prices and you get to keep your warranty.

Racers on the PC can be played with a gamepad.When you can play RTS with a keyboard\mouse on consoles then I'll be the first to admit their significance on consoles.Until then RTS are basicaly exclusive to PC atleast to real RTS fans anyways.Spybot_9
