ps5 slim same power as disc with more ssd space than the original 50 bucks more. 450 so they added ssd storage.

Sony reduced the size, manufacturing of the PS5 slim, which saves money. They added 175GB...for $50, and didn't move any cost savings to the consumer. And now they want you to pay $30 for a stand that was included.

@gifford38: Series S added 500gb for 50 bucks, ps5 slim added less than 200gb for the same price. It costs 30 bucks to stand the ps5 slim upright, Series S does it for free.

Ps5 came with a stand, because it was a stupidly poor design and hence needed one. Ps5 slim is the same silly pregnant design and also needs one….so Sony offer a plastic wishdotcom-like pin to hold the damned thing horizontally and did away with the previously included stand.

It's not and I don't know why people care so much about it. I think it's worse that Sony's charging $50 more for a slimmer, cheaper to manufacture digital PS5. If the extra space is the justification, then why isn't the disc based PS5 $550?

by contrast, the original digital PS5 is being discontinued in favor of the more expensive digital PS5 slim; effectively raising the price..

Which is insulting cause Sony was never like this and going into PS5, they really went beyond greedy.

Which is ironic for Sony to do now. When I purchase God of War; Ragnarok/PS5 bundle, it came with a stand and it was a fair price for what I was paying for. After looking at the Slim models, I do want one, but I don't like the prices they're asking for and I'm now okay with my regular PS5.

There is no reason for the slim digital to be $50 more expensive than the current digital. Sony knows they can get away with it so they’re doing it. Xbox should make a power move and drop their prices.

@gifford38: History shows you that EVERY time these companies make a revised model they always come with cheaper components and a cheaper price. The PS5 has had 2 revisions, and both were lighter and thus were cheaper to make, because a company doesn't revise its console to cost more and thus raise the price, that's not how it's done.

If you wish to believe that it cost Sony more money to make a PS5 slim, then you're just too far indoctrinated into the Sony cult to reason with.

This right here, manufacturing revisions happen for two reasons, your original process baked in a fault serious enough to result in significant product failure and thus the revision is necessary to correct said fault, or you found a cheaper way to manufacture the same product and can A) sell cheaper to produce product at same price increasing your margin or B) lower your price maintain your margin but improve market share as your product is more affordable to a wider base.

The reduce the size of consoles to reduce their expenses. Less plastic and parts (hence one less USB in this case as well). Not only with less cost due to less physical product being built, but their shipping prices are drastically reduced. They reduce shipping weight and can fit more consoles in palettes. Reduction in die sizes have lowered their costs in the past as well.

They create slim versions to increase their profits.
