Well i thought i would get them just to have them in my collection, knowing full well they will aggravate me beyond belief, now i played Demon Souls back in 2009 so i already knew how nuts Dark Souls was going to get me, but in all honesty i'm the one who always preaches that you can't judge a game until you've played.....so i did.

I must admit at first it's very misleading, letting the player pretty much succeed fairly easily in the first 30 minutes of play, then it happened, just like it always does, i got up to the area where i can either face one of 3 demons, the Taurus Demon, the demon down the stairs from the bowman sniper tower, or the Demon at the bottom of the spiral stairwell.

I've now been stuck at this checkpoint for over 3 hours, i was getting so frustrated i had to shut it off, after all i'm a 42 year old man with high blood pressure and this game was not helping.

So basically my criticisms and flaws listed with these games in the past continue to be true, depending on the player, you get to a certain point and then you just can't move forward unless you do every move perfectly and pray you make it to the next bonfire (checkpoint).

Speaking of the checkpoints they start out in the beginning of the game about 5 minutes apart from one to the next, i've managed to play over 15 minutes from this current one and the next checkpoint is nowhere in sight....i mean c'mon already.

Whatever, Dark Souls fans will defend it or say i just don't know what i'm doing, but i've played and beaten countless other rpg's and none have ever done this to players...

We'll see what happens, i'm not giving up yet.

That's what those games do.They're quite challenging although they can annoy the s*** out of the player.

enjoy the bad game design and forceful deaths inputed by the devs that you will inevitably learn to avoid on your second playthrough in which the game becomes a breeze because you know all the cheap crap thats about to happen.

*SPOILER* the series sucks.

this is not a vendetta against you TC, I just despise the Souls series.

There is a ladder when you exit the watch tower where the bowmen are... and you climb up and kill them... then you go down and run towards the taurus demon and run back then climb up the ladder and wait for the demon to show up at the bottom then you jump from the ledge ( like the tutorial taught you when you started playing the game ) and it does a bit more of a 1/4 dmg to the demon just as easy as that. Next you run pass him and wait until he attacks you dodge run towards the tower again and repeat.

Go tothe Dark Souls Wiki you can stop by and ask questions there about the game. It is very well detailed on anything you might want to know about the game. If you can't find something there feel free to ask and you most likely will get an answer and from your question an editor can put an answer where it wasn't found on the wiki (:

And if this was just a troll thread to flame a game that's not very popular in the first place you should be ashamed. Skyrim already has sold more compies than Dark Souls by pre-orders so what's with all the hate? shame on all of you. tsk tsk tsk

I can start a new game with a New Character and Kill bosses in 4-5 hits with no problems I'll have you know so if anything the game is only broken because of how many weak spots are easily spoted when you actually play the game or just look into it. The game is truly easy considering you can become a hell of a lot more powerful than any enemy before New game plus.

Well i think your wrong, i love the elder scrolls series and i always will, because your not locked into anything, if one particular quest is too hard for your current level character, you can just go off and do something else. In these Demon and Dark Souls games your locked in to a linear progression, you can't veer off in any way and do something else, and that sucks, open world games with complete freedom will always be my preference and i think most others as well.

Taurus Demon is the easiest boss in the game. If you can't beat that than you are probably going to hate the rest of the game. Try soloing Ornstein and Smough later on if you think this is making your blood pressure high.

The demon at the bottom of the tower isn't supposed to be faced at that point, its going to one shot you every time. Its got Havels ring, something you're not supposed to get until later in the game your first time through. Ignore him.

This is where i believe you are a newb at Dark Souls. I hit so many road blocks in that game and always managed to work my way through them. You said you were stuck at the Taurus Demon. Cool. He took me a good 10-15 tries before I finally beat him my first time. I tried him multiple times and kept dying. I stoped and grinded a few lvls. I would set out summon signs and help people while getting more souls. I searched for better weapons. I finally prepared my character for the fight. I STILL LOST!!! After a few more tries I noticed the ladder and attacked him with the drop down attack taking out more than half of his health bar. Easily killing him at that point. It takes strategy and determination which you need more of.

Actually i never noticed the ladder, but i was able to run past the Taurus Demon and go through the white door without having to face him, how's that for strategy, you didn't figure that one out during your 10 to 15 tries huh smart guy.

Strangely the Souls games remind me a bit of raiding in WoW. When first approaching a challenge, it can seem impossible. So you die, sometimes you die a lot, but then everything clicks and you win. When you come back and do that exact challenge again, it's a total breeze and you wonder how it could have given you so much trouble in the first place. There's undeniably a lot of trial and error in Dark/Demon's Souls, which isn't for everyone, but the unforgiving nature of the game makes it that much more rewarding when you win.

It seems most Dark Souls players get enjoyment from other people failing to complete the game, one shouldn't look for sympathy here.

Demon's Souls is much better. Dark Souls is much easier, requires much less strategy, has an annoying open world, and Estus flasks and magic slots, which are inferior to MP and Grass in Demon's Souls, and lame bosses

I agree with some of this...

I like Demons SOuls a little more but not by much.

I do prefer MP and Grass to Slots.

Dark Souls feels a lot cleaner and smoother than Demons Souls was though.

I am a fan of both of the worlds. I dont find Dark Souls to be "annoying" because everything ties in together making it a huge maze.

I find the first playthrough to be challenging. Like i said, it took me forever to beat the Tuarus Demon the first timeI fought him. Once you learn enemies paterns and how they attack it becomes simpiler.

The many regions hidden throughout the world are really annoying, it's almost impossible to know where to go without a guide, you'd basically have to search every single inch of the entire region. Dark Souls really needs a central hub. It's also annoying travelling such far distances to get to somewhere you've already been simply because the Bonfire warp locations are completely awful.

I'm not knocking the fact that it's a good game, i'm knocking the fact that it's made too hard, for example when you respawn at the bonfire checkpoints, why do all enemies have to be revived after you've already killed them ? I'm mean who the hell wants to keep killing 10 to 20 guy's over and over again in the hopes that you get back to where you were killed and reclaim your souls only to die again and have to kill all those enemies again....whether you want to admit it or not that sucks.

Demon's Souls is much better. Dark Souls is much easier, requires much less strategy, has an annoying open world, and Estus flasks and magic slots, which are inferior to MP and Grass in Demon's Souls, and lame bosses

StealthMonkey4

I agree with some of this...

I like Demons SOuls a little more but not by much.

I do prefer MP and Grass to Slots.

Dark Souls feels a lot cleaner and smoother than Demons Souls was though.

I am a fan of both of the worlds. I dont find Dark Souls to be "annoying" because everything ties in together making it a huge maze.

I havent had a problem moving around the world in this game. The only time I run into something is when im following an area and all of a sudden I have 2 paths to take. I normally sit there and decide which way to go. If I find myself skipping something I most likely turn around and go the other way.

[QUOTE="Slimmin360"] Whatever i'm just amusing myself with this cute little hack and slash until Nov 11th when Skyrim comes out, then i'll finally get to enjoy a real rpg.Slimmin360

OK... Mr. I Ran Past The Taurus Demon even though you cant.

Its sucks seeing such a good game get knocked by people because they suck at the game.

Just run right past, or get the Drake Sword and one hit kill them....

Slimmin360

Yup beat it last night.

How is that game BTW? I have it sitting on my TV stand un opened. Im not sure if i want to play it or exchange it for Modern Warfare 3 or Skyrim. I have Dark Souls, Batman Arkham City, Sonic Generations, and Uncharted 3 to play right now. Any recomendations?

TC..You know for a "early 40's guy with high blood pressure" You seem awfully immature, especially with that "Skyrim is going to the best game evarrr!11" mentality.

Anywho back on topic...The souls series are games of inching forward. Yes, I know some players will cringe at not having their hands held 99% of the time but alot of people (myself included) find a massive sense of accomplishment and progression when we play these games. Never has a game had me attached to my character and made me so triumphant since my raiding days of World of Warcraft. The immersive nature and somewhat surreal approach to locales is such a breath of fresh air in the now stagnant genre.

Dark Souls just may be my GOTY

Lol you just suck at video games

I beat Dark Souls at level 1 last week

Da_lil_PimP

Oh really, i'll happily crush you at any online game of your choice.

This sounds pathetic for a 42 year old.

I still think he should challenge that guy at Dark Souls.

Ignore him.

HoolaHoopMan

I couldn't do it. I became so irritated and pissed off I had to use help. I was also stuck on the two Gargoyles.

Most people I know who've played both refer to Demon's Souls as being "fair," but they don't say the same thing about Dark Souls.

I actually stopped playing dark souls starting yesterday because of the curse thing. I cured it and then those dumb frogs gave me another curse. It takes like 2 hours to get enough money when you have 0 souls at half your HP cut. You die constantly trying to farm that stuff back just so you aren't gimped. I enjoyed the game when it was challenging and about overcoming enemies with tactics, but that dumb curse gimmick along with a few other gimmicks made me quit the game. Hopefully they won't create dumb crap like that next time they make a souls game.

There's literally nothing cheap in either game.
