I actually stopped playing dark souls starting yesterday because of the curse thing. I cured it and then those dumb frogs gave me another curse. It takes like 2 hours to get enough money when you have 0 souls at half your HP cut. You die constantly trying to farm that stuff back just so you aren't gimped. I enjoyed the game when it was challenging and about overcoming enemies with tactics, but that dumb curse gimmick along with a few other gimmicks made me quit the game. Hopefully they won't create dumb crap like that next time they make a souls game. Lethalhazard

I hate being cursed but i learned my lesson a while ago. ALWAYS buy extra curse removal items!!!

Well i thought i would get them just to have them in my collection, knowing full well they will aggravate me beyond belief,

I really don't understand why you're even bothering. Just because many other people enjoy a game doesn't mean you have to too. If you aren't enjoying yourself you shouldn't be playing.

Made me rage so hard the second time I got cursed (it was immediately after grinding to cure the first one for 3 hours or so). Made me rage soooo hard I feel I almost broke my TV when I SLAPPED IT IN THE DAMN FACE. RAGGEEEE

Or just be careful with the frogs. Jump stab motion then bounce out quickly and don't get surrounded. They die in one hit with the jumping move...

Take all your armor off or put lighter armor on. They never do a normal attack for damage, it's always the curse attack.

OK... Mr. I Ran Past The Taurus Demon even though you cant.

Its sucks seeing such a good game get knocked by people because they suck at the game.

I'm not knocking the fact that it's a good game, i'm knocking the fact that it's made too hard, for example when you respawn at the bonfire checkpoints, why do all enemies have to be revived after you've already killed them ? I'm mean who the hell wants to keep killing 10 to 20 guy's over and over again in the hopes that you get back to where you were killed and reclaim your souls only to die again and have to kill all those enemies again....whether you want to admit it or not that sucks.

If they didnt have this aspect in the game you wouldnt be able to level up. Hence why they keep respawning. Its called grinding. Try it sometime.

Oh and that fog you speak of cant be passed unless you beat the boss. Hmm. Something doesnt seem right with your story bro.

Many different ways to grind for souls. Darkroot garden part 2 is where you can grind and get 6000 souls every 1 minute. Its super easy.

[QUOTE="Slimmin360"][QUOTE="rasengan2552"] well I think the ES series is just as bad, Oblivion was a cure for sleep deprivation. hopefully Skyrim will be tolerable.RyanShazam

Well i think your wrong, i love the elder scrolls series and i always will, because your not locked into anything, if one particular quest is too hard for your current level character, you can just go off and do something else. In these Demon and Dark Souls games your locked in to a linear progression, you can't veer off in any way and do something else, and that sucks, open world games with complete freedom will always be my preference and i think most others as well.

This is where i believe you are a newb at Dark Souls. I hit so many road blocks in that game and always managed to work my way through them. You said you were stuck at the Taurus Demon. Cool. He took me a good 10-15 tries before I finally beat him my first time. I tried him multiple times and kept dying. I stoped and grinded a few lvls. I would set out summon signs and help people while getting more souls. I searched for better weapons. I finally prepared my character for the fight. I STILL LOST!!! After a few more tries I noticed the ladder and attacked him with the drop down attack taking out more than half of his health bar. Easily killing him at that point. It takes strategy and determination which you need more of.

Um, first time through, you don't have a summon sign before the Taurus Demon. What are you talking about?

Demon's Souls is much better. Dark Souls is much easier, requires much less strategy, has an annoying open world, and Estus flasks and magic slots, which are inferior to MP and Grass in Demon's Souls, and lame bosses

StealthMonkey4

I agree with some of this...

I like Demons SOuls a little more but not by much.

I do prefer MP and Grass to Slots.

Dark Souls feels a lot cleaner and smoother than Demons Souls was though.

I am a fan of both of the worlds. I dont find Dark Souls to be "annoying" because everything ties in together making it a huge maze.

The many regions hidden throughout the world are really annoying, it's almost impossible to know where to go without a guide, you'd basically have to search every single inch of the entire region. Dark Souls really needs a central hub. It's also annoying travelling such far distances to get to somewhere you've already been simply because the Bonfire warp locations are completely awful.

I only need a guide a couple of times. Most of the time I figured it out eventually. Everything wraps around neatly and the shortcuts are many.

Actually, the content of Dark Souls seems like 3 times what it was in Demon's Souls.

Taurus Demon is the easiest boss in the game. If you can't beat that than you are probably going to hate the rest of the game. Try soloing Ornstein and Smough later on if you think this is making your blood pressure high.

The demon at the bottom of the tower isn't supposed to be faced at that point, its going to one shot you every time. Its got Havels ring, something you're not supposed to get until later in the game your first time through. Ignore him.

Chutebox

I couldn't do it. I became so irritated and pissed off I had to use help. I was also stuck on the two Gargoyles.

Thats weird.... cuz I beat that boss on my first try..... Ornstein & Smough were a different story though.... I've actually found some mini bosses to be more of a challenge than some of the supposedly "BIG BOSS FIGHTS".

I dont think any 1 boss gave me any sort of big trouble.... at most maybe 5 attempts and they'd go down. Actually nix that, Sif the Wolf gave me a hard time, til I figured out one thing, but now he's cake.

dark souls is a waste of time, its just for people who want to feel special with this challenge thats nothing more than an illusion. Being one shotted by everything and replaying a level over and over again until you figure out a cheap way to kill a boss isn't a challenge, its cheap tactics that don't reward learning at all, just punishes you for not knowing something.

Dark Souls (and Demon's Souls) is just about patience and building a character that fits your play style. It can be infuriating to newcomers, sure, but I think the game's difficulty is over exagerrated. There were some tough parts (Ornstein and Smough, Tomb of Giants) but it really isn't that bad.

I also think I'm the only one that found Demon's Souls harder.

i think most people consider demon's souls easier is because of the linearity of the levels. You got 5 areas basically you can enter and kill bosses in them sequentially, so its easy to back out of one and try another, where its very easy to get stuck in dark souls not knowing where to go. I'm stuck after ringing the second bell, and I really am having a hard time finding a reason to care about playing it any more. I know I can farm to overcome being one shotted, but... well that's **** game design if you force players to waste time doing something easy to nullify something a dev made too difficult.

Its a shame this game doesn't have a easy/normal/hard like other games... there is no reason to force players into a trial and error waste of time. Dark souls has tons to offer even without the difficulty, its silly to force only players that not only are willing to do the trial and error thing constantly, but have enough time to as well. My first 16 hours of the game I was able to redo in 2...

The linearity argument makes sense, definitely. Although in Dark Souls if you explore, you find short cuts to bosses relatively easy so I suppose my own knowledge of the game shrouds fair judgment. Personally, I found Demon's Souls more punishing because when you die, you lose half your health and that's that. That only happens in Dark Souls when you're cursed, which is easy to fix. Plus, every death in Demon's Souls leads to Black World Tendancy, which is just mean. Yeah I know I'm doing terrible... oh great now the game is harder because I failed.

But I definitely get your point. Oh and if you just rang the second bell and you're having a hard time with the difficult, do enjoy Sen's Fortress.

I'm a newcomer to the series and been having a blast with it. I did get the Taurus demon on the first try, the 'downstairs' black knight on the 2nd, Havel on my 2nd, the gargoyles on my 1st the Capra on my.. uh, 20th or something, and so on. The thing that I like is - however much I do die to a given enemy, situation or boss, once I've killed them once I pretty much will clear them forever afterward. It's kind of fun grinding through an area like an angry god when you struggled so much to learn how to even survive before. Haven't been hit by curses yet, but I was aware that I should be super paranoid around those basilisks - using my random +'d claymore the RT/R2 stab one-shots them from a safe distance regardless of what they do.

Be a pyro, the game is a lot more enjoyable that way. I am going through and with this class it really feels like its just perfect in terms of difficulty. While I know some say that class is broken w/e, I am having so much more fun this way and if that makes me "not hardcore" then.. so be it.

I do too. My parents yell at me when I get angry and tell me to turn it off. I have yet to have such outrage over this game because you just except that your going to die a lot.

It seems most Dark Souls players get enjoyment from other people failing to complete the game, one shouldn't look for sympathy here.

rastotm

Way to generalize, it seems that many take enjoyment ridiculing those who could actually enjoy what they were not capable of accomplishing. I for one do not see the souls haters being anything more than entitled elitists after my experience with a few of them, it's like they cannot accept the fact that they have to play by the game's rules rather than having the game designed by their rules. Still it would be dishonest for me to slap the label onto everyone who does not like it. Blaming the game for one's shortcomings is never an appropriate excuse. If you can't find fun in it then too bad, there is a barrier of entry that does eliminate the impatient and the uncommitted (or just not into the genre), consider it so and move on with your life.

@TC

1) As many said, just climb the ladder, use plunging attacks. Observing your environment is crucial in this game, if you can't notice the ladder then it is futile to slam on a poor design, I saw it the very first time.

2) If you could access havel, you must have the master key. Using it (or buying the residence key from the undead merchant) will allow you to get 3 gold pine resins from a chest on the way to Taurus. Using the resin will enchant lighting on your right hand weapon and make the fight much easier.

3) Havel is tricky at low lvls, I did beat him early on with the Drake sword after a few tries. The best thing to do is to circle around, backstab when he attacks. He is slow and easily beaten this way. It is unadvised to go that way at that stage of the game however, the path leads to darkroot basin with the hydra which leads to Sif. Not an easy boss by any means, almost impossible before ringing the 2 bells.

EDIT: If you play this game thinking that it's a "hack-n-slash" ala Darksiders, then prepare to suffer and learn (or quit).

@savagetwinkie

You go to Sen's fortress, it should be clear when you rang the second bell as there will be a cinematic to show you that the door has been open. It is straight from the bonfire at the blacksmith. Sen's fortress can be intimidating (and probably infuriate you as it did to me), just be careful of the boulders, there is a lightning spear in the room with the elevator plate (the blood on the plate is a sign of its nature...just so you know), the spear is given by a chest which is a mimic: it will eat you if you try to open it. I've come to attack all chests once just to make sure. There will be messages warning you about it I'm sure.

All games can be "a waste of time for the players" from an outsider's point of view, jabs like this just shows me that you be mad bro :P

I know where I'm supposed to go, but my character is kind of low level for it, or the build isn't right, basically they spank me, and I don't feel like dealing with it. I know there is about an hour's worth of content there, but its going to stretch out to 6+. Because Each time I find a new way to die in there, I have to start from the beginning and chip my way through again. And the enemies aren't difficult, its just a matter of holding my shield up, and poking there health slowly down... I don't feel like its a worthwhile challenge, I don't care, its a massive waste of time and I put the game down and started games I did enjoy.

Well i thought i would get them just to have them in my collection, knowing full well they will aggravate me beyond belief, now i played Demon Souls back in 2009 so i already knew how nuts Dark Souls was going to get me, but in all honesty i'm the one who always preaches that you can't judge a game until you've played.....so i did.

I must admit at first it's very misleading, letting the player pretty much succeed fairly easily in the first 30 minutes of play, then it happened, just like it always does, i got up to the area where i can either face one of 3 demons, the Taurus Demon, the demon down the stairs from the bowman sniper tower, or the Demon at the bottom of the spiral stairwell.

I've now been stuck at this checkpoint for over 3 hours, i was getting so frustrated i had to shut it off, after all i'm a 42 year old man with high blood pressure and this game was not helping.

So basically my criticisms and flaws listed with these games in the past continue to be true, depending on the player, you get to a certain point and then you just can't move forward unless you do every move perfectly and pray you make it to the next bonfire (checkpoint).

Speaking of the checkpoints they start out in the beginning of the game about 5 minutes apart from one to the next, i've managed to play over 15 minutes from this current one and the next checkpoint is nowhere in sight....i mean c'mon already.

Whatever, Dark Souls fans will defend it or say i just don't know what i'm doing, but i've played and beaten countless other rpg's and none have ever done this to players...

We'll see what happens, i'm not giving up yet.

No offence but I have a hard time believing you're a 42 year old grown adult when you posted this in another thread:

"LOL, LOL, LOL, LOL, LOL, LOL, You can't be serious with this thread, Please....Let me get this straight to all Dark Souls fans....your game is not even in the same league as Skyrim, so please stop comparing the two.

You might as well compare a Hyundai (Dark Souls) to a Lamborghini (Skyrim), LOL, oh man these threads make me laugh.
I told you guy's once before, after NOV 11th no one will remember or care about Dark Souls, because the best RPG and game of the year (Skyrim) will finally be here.

So please stop making these threads, your embarrassing yourself by even comparing one to the other......LOL."

And you have made plenty of other posts like that. Just doesn't seem like something a 42year old adult would say...

I'm playing Demon's Souls now. It's okay, but not without its problems. I'm basically at the end of the game, and overall I've found the difficulty level to be all over the place. I would say that it has one of the worst camera systems out of any game I've played. The camera in this game has given me more problems than any given RE game.

Why would someone want to pretend to be 42? With some people, maturity doesn't really come with age.

This serie should had been so much better without this bad multiplayer, just make next Soul game a pure singleplayer game and it be perfect.

Those games clearly aren't for everyone. I guess people either hate them or love them. Trying to convince either side otherwise will be futile. :P

Hm, yes that is true. Still, it's hard to imagine a grown adult posting something like that :?

It's kind of frightening, actually.

lol just sounds like you suck, dude. you're having trouble on the taurus demon? SERIOUSLY? The game isn't as hard as it is just unforgiving. Believe me. If you can't beat the damn taurus demon, you might as well go back and play tales of symphonia or something.

I also think I'm the only one that found Demon's Souls harder.

savagetwinkie

i think most people consider demon's souls easier is because of the linearity of the levels.

I never had to farm to get past an area, I just tried a different path and made it through eventually.

The game is fine, it's just that some players don't know what they are doing or aren't skilled enough.

I love how 99% of the people defending Dark Souls and saying its not that hard and BS like that have spend 50% of their time "playing the game" actually reading on walkthroughs and watching videos on the internet. Its hilarious.

Anyway the devs went waaay overboard with the difficulty on this game.It has such cool atmosphere art and gameplay but they ruined it for so many people.

Its not only hard, its cheep hard. The worst kind of hard. The fact that they made it cheep intentionally doesn't redeem the game in any way.

Let me tell you.Demons Souls was hard, but there were ways to play it even without walkthroughs. I beat it and I did enjoyed it.

I quit Dark Souls after 7 hours.Thats how frustrated I was.I wont go in to details but lets just say the game decided to chage up its rules just to be extra cheep and frustrating. Demons Souls just hit the right difficulty spot.Very challenging.. yes.Cheep.. not so much.

Dark Souls completely failed in that regard.

Im not sure how this game did saleswise (maybe it did good because of the success of Demons Souls) but if they make another game like Dark Souls I'm pretty sure it will be a complete failure and a lot of people that tried Dark Souls wont even consider buying it.

demons souls was an amazing immersive experience...coop for the win, i would touch any of the later bosses without tossing two coop sacrifices at them first...cant wait to jump into dark souls as well.

Demon Souls isn't as perfect as some people make it out to be, but if you need help with a boss I think you should summon someone into your world to help you

Most people I know who've played both refer to Demon's Souls as being "fair," but they don't say the same thing about Dark Souls.

Pug-Nasty

I agree and for good reason.

One thing that I noticed is that the "penalty" for the enemy is not the same as the player in Dark Souls. In Demon's Souls everything was completely equal.

for example, if an enemy throws a fire bomb in Demon's Souls, if you evade it and other enemies go into the flames they will be burned with the same viciousness as you would. In dark souls I have seen enemy use attacks that only hurts you but hasno affect on your enemies.

In that respect I agree wit the people who say Demon's Souls was "fair" compaired to Dark Souls.

This is a pretty ridiculous argument to be having at this point. Dark Soul's ridiculous difficulty level has been well documented. Saying "lol lol rofl lol you just suck this game is not that hard lol lol n00b lol lol" just makes you look like a tool. Playing said game and then complaining about the difficulty doesn't make much sense either. Basically, if you have lots of time to kill, and even more patience than that then go ahead and play this game. If repeating the same area over and over again until you learn a perfect the exact pattern you need to get through it sounds good to you then jump right in. If you aren't sure RENT THE GAME FIRST. It'll save you a lot of heartache.

I feel the same way. They tried to make the game so hardcore and make a you will die trailer and all sorts of garbage they threw balance out of the window. Demon's Soul was the far better game I thought, dark souls could have been a legendary game but it goes so far into the cheap territory it's inferior to DS other than atmosphere wise (I really love the setting).

Demon's Soul made its name by being hard but fair, I feel as though Dark Souls just tries to be cheap with no other reasoning than to live up to the promise "you will die alot". I can't believe they rated Dark Souls higher than Demon's Soul, especially with the framerate issues, worse design etc among other things.

Also I'm confused by people saying Dark is harder than Demon's Souls. I've spent more time on beating one black phatom in Demon's Souls than I have on all of the combined enemies I've faced and beaten in Dark Souls. Some of the normal enemies are boss level hard compaired to Dark Souls, and did people forget about sould and world tendency? fighting normal enemies on Pure Black world tendency? Boss level hard...tendency isn't even even something people have to deal within Dark Souls

I have also, after playing Dark Souls for a while, come to the conclusion that Demon's Souls was/is the better game. Alot of Demon's Souls awsome aspects were nerfed probably in order to appeal to a larger audience.I'm not mad tho Dark Souls still lived up to my expectations of quality(:P much easier game tho) and is still the best game I have played this year. Actually it might be the best game I have played since Demon's Souls in 2009.
