I love Battlefield, but CS pwns battlefield left and right.
There are so many great MP games that it's hard to get just 10 on the list, but I definitely think that either SSB or Mario Kart deserve a spot up there.

[QUOTE="Hot_Potato"]Where the hell is Quake? That game practically invented online multiplayer!TriangleHard
Wouldn't that be Doom?
The original Doom never had online, only LAN multiplayer. Quake was the game to make online gaming popular, period. Thank god I got Quake at launch, played it online from 1996-1998.[QUOTE="cobrax25"]no battlefield?i_like_pizza

I thought about SSB and Mario Kart, but I thought other games deserved the spot.
SSB is nice and all, but you can't really argue about it against Street Fighter 2.
[QUOTE="DrSquishy"]But of all time? On a trip, one of my coworkers bought a Wii. It was great, you could sit back and have a couple of beers and play a number of fun mini-games. I had a good time, but not as much fun as stomping childhood friends at mortal combat, 007, or any of the NES/Genesis games that people used to -for lack of a better word- "train" themselves to play well. On the Wii, skill WAS involved, but there is no way it's on par with the classics.TriangleHard
I do like classic games which is why so many of them made on my list, but Wiisports brings so many different types of people, and that alone I think is great. Like Monopoly, it's not about skills but the fact how it brings people together I think is quite impressive and make it fun to play with just about anyone you know.
Fair enough.
I guess I'll list my favorites.
007 Goldeneye
Battlefield 2(and Special Forces).
Call of Duty 2
Counter Strike Source.
Halo.
Halo 2.
Perfect Dark.
Quake III Arena
Unreal Tournament 2004.
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.
The correct list is the following:
1) Starcraft BW
2) Warcraft Series (Including WoW)
3) Street Fighter II
4) VF Series
5) Unreal Tournament series
6) Smash Bros Melee
7) Half Life Series (Including Counter Strike, Day of Defeat and Team Fortress)
8) Bomberman series
9) Mario Kart series
10) Diablo II
[QUOTE="borgmaster"]you put wii sports on there and not halo 2?Spartan8907Intriguing.
When it came to FPS, I thought hard about it and thought about which game represents the FPS multi-player the best. The popularity, impact, etc.
First, I thought about Doom but then Quake was bigger impact.
If I add Quake, then there is Unreal, Unreal then there is Halo etc etc etc, and I think there is way more to multi-player aspect in gaming just FPS. Many people might like FPS but it is far from being all of multi-player in the world and the games I've mentioned in my list provides many different enjoyment of multi-player gaming and deserves lots of credit.
I thought Counter-Strike in terms of balance, popularity, the impact it had with the mod generation, and innovative idea etc had really sums up the best and really represents online FPS multi-player the best.
If my list was 100, then Halo, Quake, Unreal etc would all be in there, but my top 10? That's the list.
I've explained Wiisports just read ahead.

1) Starcraft BW

You've missed the sarcasm that followed the "Correct List" statement.
Also, contrary to popular belief, the majority of WoW players do play other games regularly.

Wiisports in my family and with my friends who don't like to play games. It is used often like Monopoly or card games.
Every time I visit my family, unlike before where we used to just sit and watch TVs, we are now playing Wiisports.
And of course when I get drunk in my friend's place, we never used to think about playing games but after my friend got Wii, that's what we do.
I just like how it can bring so many people together to play video games. And to people who don't play video games, it's not a quick fix. Its a game, not just video game. Games like card game, board game, etc.
In no particular order
1. Super Smash Bros. Melee
2. Halo 2
3. Gears of War

I've explained it why in this thread.
No Unreal or Halo?Heil68
yes no Unreal or Halo in top 10
They aren't good as many people make it seem. History of gaming goes much deeper than Unreal and Halo.
offline and online. Let's rank them
1. Secret of Mana (SNES game, offline game, but best ever)
2. Starcraft (including brood war)
3. Street Fighter II (took video game competition to whole new level at the time)
4. Counter-Strike
5. WoW (so far, best MMO)
6. Guild Wars (excellent job masking itself to look like MMORPG. Currently best online RPG *multiplayer-wise)
7. Double Dragon. (I hope I don't need to explain why this was so great. Do kids even know Double Dragon?)
8. Gauntlet II.
9. Diablo 2 (I just couldn't allow myself to not include all 3 Blizzard franchise when talking about multi-player)
10. Wiisports
TriangleHard
BF2....and WCIII/ frozen throne
I would have Contra over Double DragonHarlockJC
I thought about Contra, but I think Double Dragon was better as multi-player. Saving my friend while he was getting beat up was good feeling. Also the massive button mashing was incredibly fun.
That was difficult to choose but in the end I leaned towards Double Dragon.
BF2....and WCIII/ frozen throne

They are good, but not top 10 in my book.
especially because Starcraft >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Warcraft III

I disagree, many people think that just because WC3 is too hard for them. SC is a lot easier than WC3, because it requires way less micro, and is way easier.

top 10 greatest of all time? i recall bomberman was very popular with families.
not this popular with families.

I can say that my whole family enjoy Wii Sports multiplayer well only my son enjoys Halo 2 multiplayer. And yes I do play with him I just find it boring.
Im very surprised Perfect Dark hasn't been mentioned much, its by far my favorite multiplayer game ever.ants83
Actually it's been mentioned quite a bit in this thread.

people put up perfect dark on their own list even on the first page.
anyway, I think Perfect Dark was good, but not top 10 good. Besides, if you are talking about Perfect Dark, I think Goldeneye should be ahead of it, because it is the one that implenmented all the important multi-player aspect already.

Aren't you freakin' insane? Starcraft is a more difficult game than Warcraft III by a large margin. Due to Warcraft III's graphical engine and upkeep, you still are forced to rely on lesser units than in Starcraft. Not only that but Warcraft 3 mostly relies on the hero system, which means your entire army is based on the strength of your hero, not so much the tactical decisions of your army composition in the long run. In that respect, Warcraft III gives you more leeway to make mistakes than Starcraft. Starcraft is always based on the decisions of your building order and army composition.

LMAO
I can't believe someone actually said Starcraft is easier than WC3
Micro in Starcraft is crazy. Just check out Slayer_Boxer videos.
Also you need to maintain large number of units and resources, nothing like WC3 you just manage your heros well and do some micro.
Also Starcraft controls are much more responsive and that much more micro you can do.

For me it would go:
1. SSBM
2. Mario Kart 64
3. any Mario Party
4. any console Mario Sports game
5. StarCraft "even thought I get my but handed to me any time I play online"
6. TMNT but only when I am at an arcade..Yes they still have them at Chuck e Cheese's
7. the X-Men arcade game
8. Area 51 in the arcade
9. I am torn from Street Fighter 2 because I really like Killer Instinct 2
10. WiiSports...I have had a blast playing this with friends and family
I am not saying these are the best of all time but they are my favs
Secret Of Mana is horrible in my opinion, the level up system is painfully slow I don't have that much time to level up the way they want, I gave up after eights hours of gameplay and only like the 20% of the game.85070537783
level up system was fine, it was usual RPG system and Secret of Mana had excellent pacing.
They gave you world you would want to explore. If you think leveling up was slow, I'd guess you don't play any JRPGs.
