Top 3 New IPs of Last Gen - PS4/X1/Wii-U

With last gen systems seeing the end of their lifespan at the end of the tunnel, I thought it would be interesting to see what everyone's favorite New IPs were of the generation?

The only rule is that it has to be a game that was released on PS4, X1 or Wii-U that wasn't part of an existing series.

My top 3:

- Destiny - Spot on controls and fun co-op. Played hundreds of hours with my brother and I generally don't even like FPS games.

- For Honor - Absolutely loved the different fighting mechanics in this game. Even after taking breaks from it, it was always easy to get back into and have fun.

- Ghost of Tsushima - Incredible game from start to finish. Great immersion and gameplay with an intriguing story.

These are my top 3 new IP from last-gen:

1. Horizon: Zero Dawn
2. Control
3. Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order (It was a new IP on the whole game itself)

Honorable mention: The Order: 1886, Destiny, Cuphead, Ori & the Blind Forest, Sekiro: Shadow Die Twice, and Ghost of Tsushima.

@girlusocrazy: Yeah, those last few you listed wouldn't count. Star Wars is a stretch but it wasn't technically a direct sequel. Whatuping's RDR2 entry is disqualified as well.

Probably Ghost of Tsushima, Insomniac's Spiderman, and Into the Breach for me. I miss the days when we received tons of new IPs every month instead of a dozen or so in an entire generation.

Prey, Control, Titanfall, and I would really love to see sequels to those.

Just Prey.

Prey was a reboot, disqualified.

I still haven't gotten around to a lot of the big games from last gen. But of the things I have put some time into, these stand out to me:

Slice, Dice, and Rice. My favorite one-hit-kill indie fighter.

Gravel. Low production values to be sure, but it's fun. I enjoyed it more than Dirt Rally despite recognizing that to be a higher quality product.

Override: Mech City Brawl. Always down for a good arena brawler. Kaiju robots? Even better.

Honorable mention Star Wars: Squadrons. Not technically a new IP, but the first sim-ish (sim-cade?) flight combat game in the franchise sinse X-Wing.

@valgaav_219: Destiny released on PS3 and PS4 simultaneously so it still counts as a last gen game.

I'm a sucker for soulslikes, so my list is straightforward.

2. Sekiro
3. Nioh

As an honorable mention, I also enjoyed quite a few niche new IPs by smaller developers, including: 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim, AI: The Somnium Files, and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

At that time, Destiny for PS3 was consider the bastard child due to limited support it got. It's clearly designed for next-gen consoles aka PS4/Xbox One and just got ported as a last minute thing. No clue how it is in 2021, but considering it was basically unplayable back in 2018, it probably hasn't improved. Plus the PS3 version did not get the last DLC unlike PS4 and Xbox One, I think we can declare PS3 version just never existed and just say PS4/Xbox One only versions. At least you was able to play it online free on PS3.

3 games that I will never get past the title screen because I died 8,214,871 times.

As much as I am a Divinity fanboy that loves to tout how great the Original Sin games are, it's not a new IP. First game in the series was way back in 2002.

As for the topic, I can't think of a single one. All the IPs I like from the PS4/Xbone era were started the previous generation or before.
