Top 5 games of the gen?

With this gen coming to a close, it's time to talk about which games you enjoyed the most throughout.

Was it a multiplayer game you sank hundreds of hours into? Or a singleplayer experience that ended up becoming unforgettable?

List me your top 5 games throughout the past gen. (Xbox One/PS4/WiiU*). These are mine:

*Yes, I said Wii U, I bet you forgot that it even existed.
** Switch games and PC games are also allowed, every game released this gen is.

2. Hitman (season 1)
3. Prey
4. Resident Evil 7
5. Titanfall 2/Metro Exodus

Prey, Titanfall 2 and Metro Exodus are fantastic singleplayer games.

I was surprised to find out that Mick Gordon, who made the absolute beast of the DOOM soundtrack, also made songs for Prey and the Wolfenstein series.

Still need to play the Hitman games :O

Broforce and SFV would def be there.

Not sure about the rest.

No Switch? Because ARMS was going to be my #1.

Broforce was a blast, and yeah SFV had a very rocky launch but it did nail the fighting mechanics. Very enjoyable game.

Nah, switch is allowed for sure. I was just going back to when this gen started.

Yes I have. It was pretty good though I prefer the Dishonored games personally. I just love their world and existing lore.

It's quite surprising actually considering that the first Dishonored was so successful. Dishonored 2 pretty much built on top of that and added a whole more depth to the formula. Two playable characters, each with a unique selection of powers, and some intricately detailed and well designed levels.

It's a shame we won't see a third one anytime soon.

But at least Dishonored 1&2 and their expansions are infinitely replayable.

Is Deathloop going to be an immersive sim?

Man, this is hard... so many great games. Probably something like this (although my list could change tomorrow):

But seeing as how it's a multiplayer game, I doubt it can be an immersive sim.

Mirror's Edge Catalyst was a great game for sure. You reminded me I should replay it.

Yup, I played a ton of great games this gen. So it was really a list for the first ones to pop into my mind.

I enjoyed Super Mario 3D World a ton, I still need to play Super Mario Odyssey.

Would you say the game fits playing it on a handheld? Or is the game simply better when playing it on TV?

I played it. it was just so boring. running running running and if engage in combat. the combat is so terrible.

@R4gn4r0k: I just felt after the disappointment I had with 4 the story was back on track and I have a lot of fun online. Just my opinion.

Yeah, man it's very underrated IMO.

Well that's a shame. With Arkane's track record though it could actually turn out great.

That's good to hear. I liked the gameplay in 4, but the story was absolutely forgetable. And the only memorable character moments were fan service.

I'll definitely play Gears 5 soon.

So many great games this gen gonna be hard to narrow it down to just 5...no real order here and I still haven't gotten around to some of the bigger exclusives yet...

I am glad you didn’t include the switch. Switch is a handheld and it seems silly to include that in a thread about current gen consoles like PS4/Xbone.

I had played far fewer games this gen than I had any other gen. Many major games I skipped out on. I'll probably get to certain games eventually - maybe yes / maybe no.

This gen I think I spent more time playing older games that I missed out on or playing old favorites.

RE7 dragged on for me a bit, because I didn't get used to its maze like design. I was constantly wondering: "Have I been here before?" "Do I go over here... or over there?"

It confused the hell out of me.
