I disagree, although I only have a top 5(but with reasons)

1. The Legend of Zelda- It is both revolutionary and still great. OoT is generall hailed as the greatest game of all time, and even it's terrible failures(tp) are still better than most games could ever dream of being.

2.Mario-Probably the most revolutionary game ever, inventing lack of suck, spin offs and 3D, even his tennis and racing games are awesome

3.Half-Life-I just put this one here for pure quality

4.Halo-While it has been outdone, it still deserves this spot. It revolutionized console Online and FPS controls. not only that but it's actually fun.

5.Metal Gear-This one is up for awesomeness as well

Hmm... quantifying these is very difficult (alphabetical order).

• Age of Empires ~ Some of the best RTS experiences of my life.
• Castlevania ~ Symphony of the Night, Rondo of Blood and the bunch of GBA games are win.
• Doom ~ It's Doom.
• Fallout ~ Fantastic "role-playing" and its postapoc. Shame to see the IP being destroyed by Bethesda.
• Jedi Knight/Dark Forces ~ Shooter combined with lightsaber action? Win.
• Mario (platformers) ~ It's Mario.
• Metal Gear ~ It's Metal Gear.
• Metroid ~ It's Metroid, only a single bad game (Hunters)
• Thief ~ It's Thief, the best stealth available.
• Timesplitters ~ It's Timesplitters, the most fun and fastest paced console shooter ever made.

There are tons of games that I love that aren't part of a franchise (S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Crysis), or games that were awesome (Deus Ex), but don't represent a high quality franchise, or not yet at least.

Anyway, here's 3 franchises that stand above all others for me personally today:

3. Grand Theft Auto

Respect shoutout to some Ninty franchises is in order! Although I think my tastes are changing as I get older, I bought SMG for example, but have very little desire to continue playing it. In addition, (justifying my 3) not much of an RTS fan, and a moderate RPG fan ;)
