i agree i think GTA4 has this award locked up..even if it might not be deserving

I suspect a conspiracy with all the 10s on GTA .Its definately NOT the game of the year but it might get the reward anyway

Gears 2 can be freaking awesome, MGS4 can be the most compelling and cinematic experience ever, but at the end of the day, none of those two are getting a 10/10, so... that pretty much sums it up.

While all of these games are deffinatly worthy of reciving it. I am really hoping MGS4 gets the honors. I would be a great way to thank Kojima for the enjoyment of over 20 years. Metal Gear is and has always been my fav series I would like it for Kojima an Snake go out with a bang.

I also wouldn't mind GTA IV getting it either for me GTA IV is a masterpiece. I feel its the best one yet and the 1st game that was truly worth paying 60 for. The story line was great and Nikko was an amzing character it was the first GTA game where I didnt feel like screwing around I just wanted to complete the story

tough question. MGS4 will simply own the others in finish and quality, Gears will be mindless and hella fun, GTA4 just cus its GTA, Starcraft will be the PC game this year that consumes yet more life out of the hermits.

At the moment GTA 4 would be the natural answer but....

This century we've had more examples of GameSpot favouring late titles.

In 2007, Super Mario Galaxy came out late in the year, won GOTY, in 2006, same deal with Gears of War. 2004, WoW. In fact it seems an early year title is only capable of GOTY (ie, RE4 in 2005, Wind Waker in 2003) when it's in a fairly uncompetitive year (as 2005 and 2003 were).

That said, I think its really between Gears of War 2, Spore and Starcraft 2. I think MGS4 is both too early, and still has too many unanswered questions to be a sure thing, and Little Big Planet is a bit of an enigma, and an idea I think Spore is going to utilise much better.

If I had to guess between those three, I'd say SC2 and Spore had the best chances, Gears 2 looks good, but like more of the same, which GameSpot has been critical of.

Starcraft 2. If Starcraft 2 doesn't come out this year, I say MGS4.

LBP? do you mean little big planet? i dunno...but for me there's nothing exciting about little big planet.
