What a misguided statement you made here. So, doesn't the actual gameplay come amazingly close to that cgi trailer? Yeah, read up a little, homey.
The actual gameplay could be 10x better than that cgi trailer, but was it gameplay then? No. Was that a lie? Yes.
Got alink to a quote?
Actually i got a link to a live footage of him saying that :)

i dont. i stop buying one when my 4th ps2 died couple of years ago. i do have a 60gb ps3 and i still buy ps2 games. lastest ps2 game i bought was persona 3 last month and i was thinking bout buying heritage of war.

I don't, and I haven;t for close to 4 years.
Once again, you show the flaws in your caring for BC.
He hasn't had a PS2 in four years. Ps3 only came out a year ago. That means he didn't play his PS2 games for three years. But now BC is important enough to complain about.
Ridiculous.

Its not a flaw. I stopped buying PS2s when they kept breaking and Sony would not do anything to help. I still wanted to play PS2 games, but I refused to buy another PS2 and spend tons of money on hardware that, if it broke, would not be fixed by Sony.
What do you want me to do, buy copies of PS2 games and hang on to them along with the games I owned already with no system to play it on?
Its not like I kept my old PS2 games when I sold my last busted PS2. I sold them as well, and bought an Xbox.
You poor logic FTL!

That was a horrible way of putting it. The 40gb version is for people who don't care about BC and last gen and want to move forward (like most of the casuals).
Also they have a great point. Unlike the Xbox, the PS2 had thousands of titles. To get all of them to work on the PS3 they would need a dedictated team of developers just making old PS2 games work. They don't have that kind of money to be throwing around. They want to focus all aspects on this gen, not last gen.
Edit: Also they had to remove something to make the system affordable. If the didn't get rid of BC they would get rid of something else and you would all bash them for that.
The simple fact is the PS3 at the price point wasn't marketable so they made adjustments so it is. That means removing parts of the original design to decrease development costs so they can lower the overall price.
Now Sony has 2 options. One for people who want BC and one for people who don't care. If you want BC you have to pay for it. It isn't the nicest thing Sony could have done, but they needed to make a decision fast or the 360 and Wii would push them right out of the market.
This is all about money. I believe they made a damn good choice because $400 is way more affordable than $600 and you still get a standard HDD and Blu-Ray ontop of free online play.
Didn't they already promise European adopters of the emulator software updates? Why can't they include this if they are already doing it via updates or are they going to abandon those people? That was a horrible way of putting it. This is a double edged sword. Yes, removing BC reduces the costs for SOny and encourages people to buy more PS3 games. BUT, that is assuming that the people sold or got rid of their PS2, or that people are buying the PS3 NOW despite not wanting any of the games. I'm willing to bet that market of people is really small.
The double edge is that removing BC may cause people who don't like any PS3 games to NOT buy anything until the games come out.

1. since the launch of the ps3 you and the other cows have labeled the ps3 as a "value" at $600...now they need a $400 model? don't make sense if it was as valuable as you claimed.
2. if the ps3's online play is free why do they charge $10 to play Tekken online?

You stopped buying the PS2 because it kept breaking and Sony refused to do anything about it? So why do you now own a 360???Because unlinke sony, microsoft actually does do something about it.
[QUOTE="Sgt_Crow"]Haha, he can't be serious.
That's a really low and weak excuse.The_Crucible
Call it what you want. i think its smart. Should they have never talked BC up if they were to ditch it later? No. But pushing you console's owners into getting games made for that specific console is not a bad thing. Sony's biggest need right now is an install base that's spending money on new games.
But, haters will boost BC to godly needs and forget that most gamers don't keep old games. We'll see more whining and crying from those who seem to give a ****. Even though most who make this a big deal have no intentions on buying a PS3 anyway.
How the hell is this smart. Its absolutely stupid. They straight dissed MS about no being able to do B/C and now they Tretton is saying this BS? And no pushing your user base into getting any kind of set games is stupid. Its the consumers choice and whoops guess Sony just took a choice away from people, no matter how small the number is.
Haters will boosst BC to godly needs? No people that want it will. Most gamers don't use it you say? Well hell most gamers don't go by what SW says anyways.
I have strong intentions of buying the PS3 but Sony is just F'N up one after another. How the hell could you not include B/C coming off such an amazing console as the PS2? Hell I'm still pissed my DS can't play GB and GBC games....
Do not make silly exuses for companies making stupid ass moves. Be more critical of all companies then maybe one day these three can actuallly get their damn act together lol.
The reason I got the 360 so early was because of some promise of BC. I am generally happy with it so far. Most of the great games can be played on the 360, which is good.
This is just a bad idea though. A consumer who knows that BC isn't available will likely wait until bigtime games come out and such. If BC was complete and full, a previous consumer would feel safe in upgrading a little earlier, because he could still play his old titles.
[QUOTE="Private_Vegas"]You linked to a topic on another forum to prove this, when that thread in that forum has no proof. The link provided there leads to a short ass article about the PS3 price cuts.... I don't usually say this but... EPIC FAIL!ChrisMun
You have to be subscribed in order to see the whole article. This is the Wallstreet Journal after all. And yes, it's legit.
Then I retract my "EPIC FAIL!" now I have to go subscribe to this crap soI can read the whole article.

You stopped buying the PS2 because it kept breaking and Sony refused to do anything about it? So why do you now own a 360???I bought 2 PS2 and both failed. I have only bought 1 360. It has failed, but I have never spent a dime repairing it, nor did I need to buy another one, since repairs were provided for free, and there in lies the difference.
If MS would have told me, like Sony did, that it was my problem, I would not have a 360 right now, great games or not. I am not made of money, and if the hardware is poor and the manufacturer refuses to step up and take care of the issue, I will not continue to use that product.
I love games and gaming, but I am not foolish, and I will not continue to pay for a new system when the failures of the older one were not due to action I made.
Here we go again
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=200326
"The reduction reflects Sony's determination to spur more sales of the PlayStation 3, the Japanese electronics company's most important new product in years. Jack Tretton, president and chief executive officer of Sony's U.S. games division, acknowledged that the relatively high price of the PS3, which Sony has justified by including advanced technology such as a high-definition Blu-ray disc movie player, has been an impediment for many gamers.
"While we were incredibly excited about the technology in PS3 and while it was future-proofed to some degree, it was a bit ahead of its time," Mr. Tretton said in an interview. "The downside of all that technology was the price we had to offer it to consumer at retail. We knew $599 was going to be a challenge for some people based on traditional videogame pricing."
There's a catch to the lower price: The new $399 PlayStation model will not play games designed for the PlayStation 2, Sony's popular older game console. Mr. Tretton conceded that removing that capability, along with a few other features, isn't dramatically reducing Sony's cost of manufacturing the console but will instead encourage buyers of the entry-level PlayStation 3 to purchase more games designed specifically for the new system."Pripyat
Price cuts?
From a purely business standpoint the idea is sound (at least partially in thoery). Sony needs to boost PS3 and PS3 game sales. How can they do that? By lowering the price as well as giving peoplefeweroptions of what games to buy. People are still buying PS2 games, including people with PS3s. This takes money away from PS3 games which is having a negative effect on the confidence of developers and publishers. How many quality PS2 games have come out since the PS3 launch (I would say 3 or 4) and if a PS3 gamer buys all of those, thats 3 or 4 PS3 games that they are not buying. Also, you average games (the ones released on every platform) are dropping in price on the PS2 (usually starting at $40) with little incentive to pay more for a PS3 version.
Remember, a good majority of gamers (not sw) can only support one system at a time. This jumpstarts those people into the position of not only buying a PS3 buy also exclusively buying PS3 games.
All that being said, I think coming out and stating it that way is stupid.
I'm really curious what this is going to due to the market value of the 20 and 60 gig PS3.
omg - how does tretton still have a job? i thought he left Sony????
hahahahahaha... i just can't stop laughing. when will they realize that nobody is buying PS3 games because they suck for the most part. it's like watching the 3 stooges take over a corporation.
