Which one do you prefer or do you prefer none of them?

This. Although I like saying "I platinum'd it", instead of...whatever people do with achievements.Achievements.

Trophies. The Xbox copied Sony's Poket Station system and put it in software withing the system instead. MS took it and PS3 used the idea of putting it in the system but used an updated version of the pocket station. MS always copies Sony because they have no original idea. Add that acheivements are worthless numbers and that rphies show actual skill level, and platniums are gotten from being hardcore and getting everything. Add in the PSN reqward you can get onc ertain Sony certified sites and some competitions and bam. Trophies actually reward you.Which one do you prefer or do you prefer none of them?

Yes but they still have the same concept

This website applies statistics regarding # of people who have the game, # of people who've unlocked an achievement within a game to calculate a ratio factor which reflects rarity.
Achievements on the 360 are my favourite, because they have a numerical value and thus we can apply such maths.
Having said that, I don't really care about achievements any more, though I used to.
Also, I'm sure we have one of these threads each month. Probably not too bad considering people can change their mind about achievements fairly easily.

One gives you the rewards and one gives you a number. how are they the same concept? I was just mentoing that both award you but Sony shows it in trophies and MS's just shows a big number.
[QUOTE="TheEroica"]Achievements, but really they are the same thing. I do think that achievements and trophies branded gamers though. Heil68You want to play tonight? was thinking about it all day man... Im cooked. in bed already... don't think ill be around tomorrow night, possibly saturday, but definitely Sunday we should. Was wondering today if you had RE5 on the godbox... wanted to run through the DLC with you. I downloaded it a couple years ago and never played through it. thought we'd have fun with it.
They would be fine if they weren't virtually meaningless. The fact that quite a lot of them can be unlocked merely by completing trivial things like tutorials or impossible-to-miss story segments defeat the whole purpose of them being an "achievement". Don't you think an achievement should actually feel like, you know, an ACHIEVEMENT? Not sh*t that an infant could perform. Over 90% of them are f*cking meaningless.

Each level of trophy has a point value that adds to your total level. The level system in and of itself is one of the biggest differences in otherwise identical systems. Someone who plays 30 games on the 360 and dosn't 1000/1000 them can have the same point total as someone who played 15 games to 1000 points. Doing the same thing with the trophy system would be the difference between level 3 and level 10. Either way, their both a passing distraction, mostly good for additional goals in games you can't get enough of.http://www.trueachievements.com

I personally prefer trophies, I like being able to rank up, gives me something to look forward too. And I like the sound of saying "I just 'platinumed' this game", sounds better than "I got 1,000 points in this game". Being able to earn trophies on both PS3 and Vita is nice too, and I know you can do that with with 360 and phone games as well. I do think that Achievement milestones are great though, like reaching 10,000, 20,000 etc. points.
Unfortunately I lost my first PSN account, had the AC2 platinum and LBP platinum on it :(, and reached level 12 on it. That LBP plat was my personal favorite, getting the create trophies without using H4H actually felt like an accomplishment. Anyways, ended up making a new account, reached about level 6 or 7, and then didn't like that name so I made another account :P.
So now my trophy list on my current account is not as impressive as it could be, now level 11 going on 12 with 3 platinums (should be 5  ). Having to start over kind of set me back on the idea of trophies, I used to care a lot more about trophies than I do now. However, I've started getting back into them recently.
Its not really worth splitting hairs over the differences, but I gotta say I do enjoy the trophies. I get more use and playtime out of my games now, and in some games exploring areas or doing things I wouldnt have otherwise. When you Plat a game you really feel like you covered all bases in the game (I only have 1 sadly) But its an addictive system which helps me get more hours and enjoyment from my purchases.
I think they should allow the choice for users or developers to disable achievements (for instance to introduce in-game cheat codes, etc..).
