I think they should allow the choice for users or developers to disable achievements (for instance to introduce in-game cheat codes, etc..).

RR360DD

They do. Some games when you activate cheats don't let you gain achievements.

This.

You can also turn off notifications if they bother you.

I don't have preference. I like Steam achievements the most than Trophies. Don't really care for them but I understand how they add replay value to games.

Ya..I wish this single player cheating option (while disabling achievements) somehow to be more common than an exception.

On PC, you could download mods to remove certain annoying aspect of a game (e.g. items carrying limit in skyrm, doom 3 flashlight, etc..).

Maybe some sort of Steam Workshop solution but for consoles, might be the answer here.

I remember playing MGS3 and hating every minute of the chore of having to constantly keep feeding Snake or his super hypoglycimic stamina would drop to 0.

I dusted off my Gameshark and instantly the game turned into one of my favorites PS2 games after removing that annoying aspect off of it.

Same thing with X360's Lost Planet, the game was really entertaining had there not been this annoying thermal energy depletion that forces you to rush every mission.

I stopped playing it on X360 and bought it on PC when it came out and ran a trainer that removed that stupid thermal energy aspect off of the game.

[QUOTE="DerveCreaves"] The Xbox copied Sony's Poket Station system and put it in software withing the system instead. MS took it and PS3 used the idea of putting it in the system but used an updated version of the pocket station. MS always copies Sony because they have no original idea. Add that acheivements are worthless numbers and that rphies show actual skill level, and platniums are gotten from being hardcore and getting everything. Add in the PSN reqward you can get onc ertain Sony certified sites and some competitions and bam. Trophies actually reward you.DerveCreaves

Yes but they still have the same concept

One gives you the rewards and one gives you a number. how are they the same concept? It;s like saying that one job makes you money and one job gives you a gift card to arby;s Which would you hasve?

That's not seeing through Make believe lenses at all! All these companies copied the first caveman who demanded something in return for what he provided, whether shelter, food, sex, protection. So the copy thing is all butthurt. Why didn't Sony want to implement their system from the launch of the PS3 then? Because they didn't know how popular an achievement/trophy system would be until it was cried about from cows. In the end I have yet to see any reward from trophies or achievements. What? You mean bronze, silver, gold, platinum little symbols? Wow, you're really taking this bit to serious huh? I bet you dream of being on a little Olympic stand when you unlock one of your "rewards", in the middle, highest stand, all the people cheering you. Go out today bro, it's fun outside.

They're the same thing and they both mean little.

Trophies... Arbitrary numbers are less satisfying than arbitrary symbols for some odd reason...

If I had to choose, I think "platting" is cooler than "getting every achievement" I think it's more prestigious, kinda says you're a hardcore gamer that you platted the game.

I like the cheevos more cause every 360 game has them(except indie) and the cheevos from GWFL all link up with my XBL account.

Same exact concept. Only difference is that PS3 adds an "extra" one that says you unlocked all the others. I like them overall though. Adds some nice replay value to games.

Trophies. Both are the same thing though. I prefer how trophies are presented better with different colour trophies which represents the level of the achievement. And especially when the platinum trophy is unlock which is gratifying. I choose that over the arbitrary numbers.

Trophies since its nice to see the level of difficulty of the challenge you performed visually.
