Yeah it would be good if you could actually get stuff for your trophies. Like you can pay 10 trophies for access to a demo a week early or if you have 5 plats they give you a game of PSN for half price or something. I actually think the companies could benefit from that because then people would try harder to get trophies and it may push them to buy more games...etc.mhsdrake
Well, MS is starting to do the xbl rewards thing, as well as the avatar rewards. The avatar rewards are connected to achievements, but the xbl rewards are justpart of having a gold account. Eventually Sony will do something similar, but I wouldn't expect to seerewards worth much monetary value.
Achievements. Trophies were an afterthought and still feel as such - the only neat touch they have is the platinum trophy, but that's basically just a visual representation of 1000-pointing a game anyway. Plus, comparing and viewing achievements is a much more streamlined process. Again, not a surprise - Sony makes hardware, not software.DJ_LaePS has improved in this manner, you can pretty much sync them and compare them to anyone on your friends list at the touch of a button.
They're pretty much the same except trophies have different levels (bronze, silver, gold, platinum) and achievements are in every game.

Anyway, I own a 360 so I only know how achievements really work and I have a complaint: they should have separated the MP achievements from the SP ones and have 3 categories in every gamertag: SP ach / mp ach / total gamerscore.
Quick grab the chainsaw and chop of it head off!!! Then grab the gas and burn this mo fo STAT!!! *whew* Damn threads never stay dead.

Yes because its sohard to press x on a friend and click compare trophies. Also its a challlenge you press x on the trophy icon or even my own name. Wooo so hard:|. In the end both are the same besides the obivious points and trophy system. So in the end we both win.

I don't know if I can, but I've been challenged by one of my Homies, and I accepted. The Challenge starts Next Week, since we are having a race. I'm hurrying trying to finish my 360 games for the year to take my buddy head on.
As far as actually accomplishing it, it will be hard, but at least I'll know what I'm made of. Dinner at any restaurant is on the line, and the winner has to pay for our whole group (about 8 of us.) Should be about $300-$600+ or more if the guys decide to drink...:P
damn. how do you get the time? lolWell, I know I'm faster than most gamers at completing and finishing games, so that's a time saver right there.:)

Just curious...are you aware of HOME Rewards, and HOME outfits on PS3? They've been doing it for a long time now...I have got some sweet InFAMOUS and SF4 outfits for instance just because I kicked butt at those games. Same For RE5, I got some snazzy stuff in my apartment in HOME.
Did you know that the PS3 games offer outfits tied to Trophies, before Avatar's did? You didn't seem unaware, and I didn't want someone to read your post and get the wrong idea.
The XBL rewards subject is a different issue, and I agree with that point. It's your first point about Sony eventually copying Avatar rewards that I take exception with....as the reverse is actually true.
Doesn't matter to me because I'm a gamer not a trophy collector. The whole thing was created to get more casual gamers to actually play the games by tapping into the power of the public school system.
Achievement > Trophies IMO of course.
But both give games better replay value.
Also XTY, I give you a tip of my hat. I could only bare one playthrough of Bullet Witch :P.

Wow, I don't know how you remembered that, but yeah, that was godang painful, lol.
That developer is currently making Nier for SE, so watch out for that one, it could be good, but...
My Buds fault!
trophies have more personality, acheivements are ok, but theyre just numbers, with games having varying difficulties, you can cheat the acheivement gradient to make seem like youre hardcore.
with trophies getting a platinum is a **** you can see i was not dedicated enough
They are pretty much the same thing with pretty much the same incentive. The only main difference between the two is one is standard right from the start so pretty much all the games have achievements; while on the other hands trophies was impletemented at a later date making it not available to the earlier game without any sort of patch. In the end trophies are better for me because of the details it has compare to achievements.
[QUOTE="SilverChimera"][QUOTE="Doolz2024"]I prefer earning trophies because of the platinums. Doolz2024:shock: 5? woah. lol i only have 1 :cry:LOL 5 isn't that many... Lol, Hakoom (currently leading trophy leaderboard) has 85+.
I will be estatic whenever I get my 1st platinum trophy. I've never really tried to set out and get it, but all this talk about it is making me jealous. Plus it'd be nice to have one sitting up there. I think Burnout Paradise is the game I am closest to doing it on......
Me too. I still have no plats yet. I want kz2 to be the game I get plat first. I still need to get the weekly valor trophies and keep playing multiplayer a lot more, which is hard with new games coming out. I started playing kz2 online again yesterday and wow I forgot how awesome the maps, classes, and graphics are. I was extrememly happy when I got my first platinum (infamous) just recently. Actually moreso than when i got my first 1000/1000 (Bioshock) I like the trophies better because of the tiering. I agree with the different types of trophies showing that you accomplished harder tasks.. They stand out more than a number does. Look at peoples gamer cards.. on the 360, it shows a total point value. On the ps3 cards, it shows their level, their total trophies, and total TYPES of trophies.. this is relevant because as people have said you can stack points from games on the 360, but you cant really stack trophies to make you look better. I could have 19565971295 gamerscore on my 360 card and you have no idea if I have ever 1000/1000 a game. But with the trophy system, if I have 6227627 trophies, you will know if I stacked them if they are all bronze, and how many are in what category and with the platinums know how many of those games I actually beat.[QUOTE="Jandurin"]They're exactly the same. What even pisses me off more is the 2 games I have 1000/1000 on my 360 are 2 of the easiest to get that on. Fight Night Round 3 and NBA 2K6, but keep in mind I did that back in 2006, before everbody start using them, Avatar, and King Kong to boost their score.
i have 980/1000 on Lost Odyssey and 1000/1000 on RE5 and those weren't too hard to get. all games released after january first 2009 are required to have trophies. Both are essentially the same. Achievements being in every game is an advantage though. Unfortunately Trophies took a back seat for many games.

How do little icons have personality? I think you're really stretching here and I think we all know the reason why.
The "personality" argument works for games, but with trophies/achievements, it comes across as a big joke.
[QUOTE="Jandurin"][QUOTE="StealthMonkey4"] Erm... no they're not...StealthMonkey4how are they different? Read my post a few posts up. They're the same basic concept but each has their pros and cons. they mean the same thing... a 10-20 point achievement is a bronze trophy, a 25-50 is a silver anything higher is a gold. (guesstimates) platinum = 1000GS and your levels for PS3 trophies? They are similarly mirrored in the total GS

Wish I was that close in all my games. Wolverine: Origins is my closet w/ like 4 acheivements to go. My conversion rate is horrible. Out of 135 games played (including XBLA) 2 fully completed....I need a Gamerscore makeover:cry:
[QUOTE="Jandurin"]They're exactly the same. I can testify to this as I have both.StealthMonkey4Erm... no they're not...
Yes. They are. The differences are laughably superficial and just mainly things that PS3/360 owners latch onto to convince themselves that one is "better" than the other. It's clear as day. Cows will say trophies, lemmings will say achievements and they'll both act there are worlds of differences and then when asked why they'll point to a superficial difference.
Again, they are the same. Some of you are just looking for a reason to compare trophies/achievements like you compare everything.
[QUOTE="Jandurin"][QUOTE="StealthMonkey4"] Erm... no they're not...StealthMonkey4how are they different? Read my post a few posts up. They're the same basic concept but each has their pros and cons.
The pros and cons for most people in this thread are so subjective that it's not even worth arguing.
"Achievements/trophies make a better sound."
"I like Platinums instead of 1000's," or vice-versa.
"Trophies have personalities".
"Trophies/achievements look better".
You can pretty much tell that I hate trophy/achievement debates probably more than anything on this website.
Now I know that people are going to have their preference, but my beef is that the preferences, with a few exceptions, seem to fall on fanboy lines. Cows will say trophies, lemmings will say achievements, etc. I trust the sincerity of a manticore's preference more on this matter.
But to argue which one is actually better? Huge waste of time. There are not enough differences that matter.
I have both AcheivementsI likebetter. Why?
1. Every single game has cheeves. I played some older games I just recently got on PS3 and was annoyed there was no trophies.
2. I like the Number better then Symbols
Less that and more via other methods, like xbox.com or through Microsoft's API that allow other sites to pull achievement data easily (Giant Bomb does this extremely well). Even ignoring the obnoxious 'syncing trophies' message while waiting for your own trophy list to load properly, Sony's off-console support for the system is pathetic at best.Yes because its sohard to press x on a friend and click compare trophies. Also its a challlenge you press x on the trophy icon or even my own name. Wooo so hard:|. In the end both are the same besides the obivious points and trophy system. So in the end we both win.

wow :? ok....A system whereby you can have bronze silver, gold and platinumsystem shows more about you, your gaming habits and skill - a gaming personality per se (hardcore gaming personality ala solid ty, or moderate like my self) as opposed to ordinary numbersPlease Log In to post.
