I personally think it's false. I think WRPGs = JRPGs. They're both the same genre, just made by different cultures. I can understand if anybody dislikes JRPGs because of storylines, orboring/confusing gameplay, but if anyone says, "JRPGs suck 'cause a da anime and da weird eyes! LOL!!!1!", I automatically take out any credibility they might have had.

I don't have enough experience playing rpgs to say but WRPGs (ME, Oblivion, Fallout, Kotor) tend to interest me more bc of real time combat but then again I have only started getting into rpgs and have yet to play a jrpg (unless Folklore counts). Oblivion was the game to get me into rpgs so it will hold a place in my heart but now I want to try more rpgs and even try jrpgs such as FF. I may pick up FFXII to try it out jrpgs or wait for FFXIII. My next rpgs is probably Shivering Isles expansion or Fallout3. Speaking of rpgs can anyone suggest a good rpg (preferably jrpg) to try out for my psp?

I recommend the Tales of... series, the Star Ocean series, Kindom Hearts series, and the more recently Eternal Sonata. these are just a few of JRPGs that have really good real-time combat.

The majority of the time I like JRPGs a lot more. However, there are some EXCELLENT games in both genres.

WRPG - Diablo, Elder Scrolls, Baldurs Gate

JRPG - Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Chrono series

PS: what would Dark Cloud be considered as? It's made by sony.

Derek240
Dark Cloud would fall under JRPG its published by Sony but developed by Level-5

Much better than the last couple of FFs IMO, anyways I was just mentioning games with good real-time combat, I wouldn't recommend none of the games that I posted for their story.

I hear Tales of Eternia is good, haven't played it myself. and there's also a Star Ocean remake coming soon which i bet it will be good. a Ys game released which got a Real-time combat and Tales of rebirth i coming next year. there also Monster Hunter 2.

Well I'm not really up to date with the PSP RPG's games since i sold mine. but those definitely come to mind. and there's a lot coming too.

Edit: Don't want to get reported for having a huge quote chain

Ultima? as in 1980s? do you blame them? it was much harder to make things unique back then based on technology , can you name any recent milked WRPGs? because I dont see more than 2-3 games of each.

Computer and video games

Seventy-three unique digital games had been released and sold under the D&D license as of May 2006. Almost half of these games were published by Strategic Simulations, Inc. (SSI). Most, but not all, are computer role-playing games that use rules derived from some version of the D&D rules. Many of the games were released on multiple platforms, including personal computers, consoles, and handheld devices (including mobile phones).

To me, this is like saying Death Metal > Thrash Metal. They're 2 different subgenres and don't really work for comparisons...
