ah ok so you've heard that those were bad? WOW! you must be so much older than everyone who says TP was a dissapointment! crikey, everyone knows virtual boy and the CDi zeldas were bad. i do, and ive never even seen them in real life. people who take things too literally are either immature or just idiots. b xx

I have the game so im not mindlessly bashing here.

1. where is the life in TP?  nearly 90% of everyone in castle town ignores you, and the rest have no personality or a fake personality.

2. where is the music?  the little songs you play here and there are useless.

3. challenging puzzles?  Not in TP, the game was easy for anyone the first time through.

4. bosses were unimaginative, boring, and very meh.

5. Story...  umm yeah it was just bad, not to mention they got some plotholes in it.

6. Mini dungeons that nintendo promised... where are they?  I see the cave of ordeals and thats it.

7. kakariko village is a ghost town, what happened to the humble kakariko?

8.whats up with getting rid of hitting switches with arrows? or how about getting rid of the great faries besides for one?  Or what about getting rid of the mirror shield?  The magic bar?

9. what boring background music, nice snooze fest nintendo.

10. you delay the game a year for what?   to push your new console and make the game even more outdated?  at least update the graphics for the wii version, because the controls arent so great.

seriously, nintendo was just cleaning their nails when they made this disappointment.  I really dont like to say such things like this, but if you think TP is in any way a "phenomenal" game, than you are just to busy reading the title instead of  playing the game.  It is horrible that the name "Zelda" can guarantee its love and blind fanboyism, I find it shameful to even call TP a zelda game.  IMO If TP wasnt named zelda, it wouldve been slammed for mediocricity

This is one of my favorite games i've ever played. Lots of it is dated but theres just to much to like about it that all the dated stuff doesnt matter.

Did I smell an anti-Wii thread?*runs to it*poopinloop32

I'm curious to know why you hate it when people call you a fanboy and why you excessively proclaim that you are not a fanboy with your above post.

Anyways Zelda TP is not the biggest disappointment in Nintendo history. That belongs to them not changing to CD's during the N64 era and destroying their 3rd party support. Something that hasn't even been repaired to this day.

Saying Zelda TP is the biggest disappointement when it has reached #16 a Gamerankings is crazy. What did everyone expect the second coming of Zelda OOT? If this is the biggest disappointment then the Zelda franchise has expectations that are unreachable meaning that it is indeed one of the greatest franchises ever if a game at #16 is the biggest disappointment in a company's three decade video game history. (or how ever long they've been in the business)

meh...I guess thats what happens when people hype a game to be the second coming of Jesus. Many had realistic expectations like me....but people who over-hype are bound to be disapointed, It happens with a lot of games I guess.

Well, I just started TP two or three days ago, but I'm rather enjoying it.

But the TC is correct about a few things. The music is awful, just awful quality for a Zelda game. And it seems that the game has lost alot of Zelda charm. It's like some kind of depressing world throughout the entire game. At least bring back some of the happy Zelda moments Nintendo. And I miss the magic bar, where you would always get to use cool stuff like the lens of truth, the deku leaf, and Din's fire. These are pretty much the negative things for me, but fixing the music would have kept me happy. I just pleasured Windwaker's songs, and wish this new Zelda had some of that forbidden>

[QUOTE="Shinobishyguy"][QUOTE="Jandurin"][QUOTE="SkyRaid"]The townspeople thing? does suck a lot. Where is the life? made for a pretty boring experience.

Townspeople thing really didn't bother me... as I almost always ignore big cities of people until I need something from them. (In video games... and in RL, I suppose). I didn't even know how flat they were until 35 hours in or something when I was trying to find the item shop :P.

actually there are towns people that you can talk to. Near the cafe at the eastern enterance, and the southern market place near telma's bar, those kids that hang out near Jovani's house. It's honestly not as barren as peolple make it out ot be

nah it is. it was horrible compared to the dancing couple, 2 laughing/juggling men and the woman who lost her dog in OOT. nothing less than barren compared. b xx

What I was talking about was how you learn that Saria will remain a child forever while Link, her best friend is able to grow up and leave the forest. And when he returns, he finds she has moved on. Midna isn't really complex, its just that she hides her motives and speaks in riddles. She's pretty shallow when you realize that all she is, is a creature of revenge.

Shirley_Temple

Spoiler:

A creature of revenge? There is much more about Midna then Zant. She belongs to a tribe that was very powerfull in magic do to their control over the passage to the Sacred Realm and the Twilight was made specifically by the godesses to banish them for their actions, in other words she belongs to a tribe that has only been punished because of the deeds of their ancestors.

Midna started of kicking your ass because she had reasons to hate not only links race but the hole of the light world and her current situation. What she realized after seeing the sacrifices of link and Zelda made her think that perhaps her beloved world beeing the cause of the destrution of the light world and its people was not such a good thing in the end.

She had to abondon her rulership and people and found a hope she wasn't even sure of, in a prophecy that told her people that a Hylia taking a form of a beast would come and save them.

IMO I think you are simply trying to hate the game too much. You talk of its linearity yet you speak highly of SOTC .You complain about the way the Horse in TP gallopps in comparison to SOTC(yet I didn't see anything wrong with it) You say Midna is a shallow character in comparison with Saria and yet I see no good reasons for those claims.  You also said TP was trying too hard to emulate SOTC yet I see no reason for those claims as well..........

Whilst Majora's Mask remains my favourite Zelda game to date, I think Twilight Princess was an absolutely remarkable achievement. After Majora's Mask and Wind Waker Nintendo finally gave into the fan's wishes and created the greatest 'pure' Zelda experience to date. It was a swansong to the convetional Zelda template and a masterclass in level design.

However if Nintendo were to follow this path again then I fear the charm would finally run-out, evidently for some it already did. I grew up playing OoT and so forth and as a child I was much less cynical, critical and analytical of games, I appreciated them for what they were and not what I wanted them to be. I think as we age as gamers we need to rekindle that childhood intrigue and mystique; in doing so we will enjoy video-games much more.

When I was galloping toward Hyrule castle with sword held-high I felt that undefinable feeling that this is Zelda, the series has a magic that is impossible to capture.

[QUOTE="Hoffgod"]Wow. In the two hours I was away this turned into the biggest *****-fest I've ever seen in SW. Seriously. I've never seen so much said with so much passion in an effort with no hope of succeeding and no ultimate meaning. Some think Twilight Princess is the greatest Zelda ever. They have reasons to backup my arguement. Others think Twilight Princess is terrible. They have their reasons. But it all boils down to opinions of an experience that won't be changed by the shrill screechings of others. So why do you all feel the need to berate and attack others (especially you, Shirly_Temple) over something where opinion reigns supreme? Are you so insecure that you need to convince everyone you're right?88Ghost89

I do it for 2 reasons

1.  Because when I first began criticizing TP, I was told to sit down and shut up, that it was the greatest thing ever made, I said no, and still harshly critique it BECAUSE of those first few people.

2.  Because I want Nintendo to try harder, TP isn't a game I want to play twice, hell after playing it the first thing I felt was, "damn, I really regret sitting through this."

And hopefully, Phantom Hourglass captures that old Zelda charm.

I didn't tell you to shut up...or were you talking about other people? I enjoy these discussions, entertains me while I'm at work lol. It's all good, I love you man. :p

But this has changed from what the original discussion was about...

I didn't specify but it was when I first beat the game, I came on here to share my thoughts, and then bam.

?..........

I think your reaching for straws, Zelda games aren't supposed to be linear (have you PLAYED OCARINA?), SOTC was an action game.  I never compared their structure, only the "epicness." some guy said the dragon boss in TP was epic, I told him other games had changed my definition of epic and TP just couldn't reach up to their standards, and then I used SOTC as an example.  TP had big bosses, but they weren't imposing or threatening, they took their 3 licks and died.  I guess just because Midna gets more dialogue than Saria you believe her to be the deeper character, because I saw nothing in Midna's personality I'd call deep.  I look for more in a character than simple motives and drives, I look for reaction and poingant thoughts like Saria's.
