It was leaked on p2p sites and within 2 hours a crack was made. Great deal of help their crippiling drm system did. now only the legit customers have to suffer because of ubisofts poorly considered plan. I dont condone piracy but anyone could have told them that going overboard on this drm scheme would end very badly.

I know at least two people who were going to buy (legit of course) AC2 for PC and heard about the DRM and changed their minds. Terrible idea by Ubisoft. Everyone knew that it would be cracked extremely fast and probably turn potential buyers into pirates. I however already own the game on my PS3 so whatever.

oh what a surprise the most effective drm is a simple disk check then people wont avoid buying it due to drm. my crysis warhead recently would not activate after reloading windows so I just cracked it since it's much easier than dealing with the drm crap. no drm = no problems for those who buy but drm just punishes those who buy the game. there is nothing pirates wont crack in a few days.

Your joking, it would be illegal to post a link. The point of the topic is that people who buy it will be more boned than people who don't it was obvious the second this was announced that it would get cracked even before street date.

Yup they pull crap like that with insane drm issues and high prices. The only result will be people not buying the game and not stopping piracy. Seriously who is gonna buy a product like that for 60 bucks? I will buy the console version afterwards which will be less than half the price of the pc version and with no online saving crap. Nice job ubisoft killing the pc version and trying to make pc gamers switch to consoles.

yeah that's what I do whenever they put pointless drm in. if it's annoying I will crack out the drm. they would have been better to have gone with steamworks, that would have pissed less people off and doesn't have all the problems of ubi's system.

it's just like the ea drm games crack it and no need to every be online.

the games that have securom and activation are just as easy to crack as just a simple disk check.

Ubisoft would not put in DRM in the first place if PC gamers never pirated games.

It is worrying if AC 2 gets pirated then Ubisoft and other companies would more likely stop supporting the PC. Dont be stupid, just buy the game.

I just hope Ubisoft don't decide to cancel any PC version of AC3 based on piracy. Even though the piracy will be their own fault it will give them the PERFECT excuse not to make PC versions any more.

Maybe this is their plan all along.

pc games sell fine and all this drm just kills sales. why buy a game that you can only install 3-5 time before having to contact support when you can pirate it and never have any of those problems? The real point of drm is to stop resale. the game companies hate the used game market and want it dead. but putting in limited activations is not the way to do it, if they want to stop resale using steamworks is much more effective as there are no activation limits.

I don't agree with some of these DRMs but I'm wondering how they're planning to solve this. Piracy is seriously growing out of control.

Sooner or later the software companies are going to sue Intel, AMD, nVidia for not even attempting to counter this since they benefit from it. If you don't have to consider the costs of games you're more willing to spend some more on more expensive hardware.

You can never counter piracy, protection software websites say the same thing. All it has to do is make it very time-consuming or present a large enough difficulty so the cracked version comes out way too late or simply isn't as accessible as it is now to the casuals. I wonder if they can't ask Sony for some help. Sony and Crypkey. Hmmm.

they fail because they actually thought their drm would help them at all. what they did was nothing but encourage piracy and dissuade legitimate buyers. the pirates see drm schemes as challenges and attracts much more attention in the pirate community and no one(except ubi) actually thought that their drm would remained uncracked. this means much more pirating than if they had a simple disk check or go through steamworks. and the legitimate buyers will have to deal with a major inconvenience that the people who pirated the game dont. It ends as expectedly with ubisoft humiliated and losing money they wasted on the drm, less people actually buying the game because of the drm, and more people pirating because it attracted so much attention and people dont want to deal with the drm.
