I can understand why people bought PS4 coming from last generation since Sony had their fair share of AAA exclusives. But what I don't understand is why it is continue to sell in numbers even in late 2014. Shu already made it clear that AAA exclusives are getting expensive to produce and hinted at their reduction in number this generation. I mean why not wait and watch.

Because the lions share of gamer consumers are in it for the yearlies like CoD/FIFA/Madden/Assassin's Creed type of games.

PS4 isn't launching like most consoles launch where your hardcore gamers buy it at the highest price while the casual gamers sit around waiting for the price drops. They're deciding they had enough of Gen 7 and a LOT of these are apparently 360 owners just going by Ubisofts numbers..

..Which actually makes a lot of sense, because the exclusives for 360 dried up years ago. It's been a dead platform on autopilot getting a smattering of the yearlies and cross-gen multiplats. Microsoft gave that type of gamer every incentive possible to upgrade to gen 8 and those people are overwhelmingly switching to PS4 (again, going by the numbers and the fact Ubisoft's game catalog is precisely consisting of yearlies and cross-gen multiplats).

I've been saying this was the case all year long. Granted, it was more of a hunch or a guess as to why PS4s were selling almost like the Wii did, but now there is data that strongly points to it. While everyone else has been sitting around asking "Why is PS4 selling so well?" The answer is it pulled not only the hardcore gamer off the fence but the semi-core gamer as well and that is where the largest part of the game market exists.

Ubisoft releases plenty of PC exclusives, but they are more of niche titles. The biggest ones passing 1-1,5 mln at most

Well seeing as how the PS4 has outsold the XBone by a 3 to 1 margin, I guess that makes sense.

That was probably due to Ubisoft being very Pro-PS3 last gen with marketing deals. I remember most Ubisoft titles had PS3 exclusive content. that or the PS3's case/boxart was at the front of their major marketing campaigns.

I think despite everything, PS4 doing half of their sales is the biggest awakening call to most people.

It only released, what? 8 months ago? and its already the company's main money maker.

You market a game for a certain system it's going to sell more on that system especially if that system has a bigger install base, not surprising to me. Christmas is a crucial time for the Xboxone. I hope they blow people away, so far they deserve it more then Sony.

There's no reason to get the inferior Xb1 over PS4. Their so called exclusives will be out on the PC in a month or Two

I'm not surprised the PC isn't selling as much, PC gamers don't like getting shafted and Watch Dog was blatantly handicapped on the PC to make weak ass consoles look competent.

Its ok we all know XboxLAST has no games next year no need to take it out on the PS4 ;)

Halo 4 got a 9 here and sits at 87 on MC, everyone talks about how Halo 4 is crap but all the reviews I've read say otherwise, is is crap compared to the others? then wouldn't that just mean the other 3 Halo's are uber amazing?

Anyway good on Ubisoft I guess, I don't like that company much at all but its good to see they are doing well on the market leading console.

It's because a huge chunk of the population buy a console and only use it for a year or two. Very few buy a console at the start of a gen, and continue buying games for it all the way through to the end - 7+ years later. Those 85 million units were spread out over years, lots of PS3's and 360's have long since been relegated to the backs of people's closets.

I think we can take from this that there are alot more 360's that have been effectively deactivated, and relegated to closets compared to PS3's - but that's not surprising given the PS3 had some momentum towards the end of the gen, whereas 360 owners were looking to jump ship to the PS3 or PS4.
