You're not too sure? Wow. Ok, well you might as well go with what we have, so in theory there are 4000 ish defective units if 0.4% is correct.

The amount of defect units, sure, but the percentage should remain the same for now. Obviously as time goes on the percentage will go up, but adding more units to the mix shouldn't change failure rate, only number.

Dunno where OP is getting his numbers from. The link didn't provide anything. Less than 1% failure rate is extremely good. They have sold over a million PS4s, it's inevitable that a few will brick and their angry owners will take to social media. The rest of us with working PS4s are more than happy with our purchase. Everyone on my friends list with PS4s has nothing but praise for the system and the general reaction with the public is overwhelmingly possible. Angry lems should just chill out and wait for their XB1s instead of waiting their time looking for negative PS4 news, it's not working as the record number of PS4s sold proves.

Indeed. The coming months and a lot more marathons and over-stressing of the hardware will jump that number up significantly. Launch units are always problematic.

Unless it hits 5% it's not a huge problem, not for the first run of consoles. As time passes their console production will become even better. The first consoles made are always the most prone to failures.

If it's 1% for launch day dead out of the box already I say they have a nice start for the next 12 months to build on .

Lets hope they use better cooling paste and lead free solder than that was used on the launch PS3 .

I am! I like xbox gaming... but in all honesty, I make fresh starts at the beginning of every gen based on who sells to me best. As much as I love the original xbox and have zero doubt the 360 was the defacto trend setting console of gen 7, Microsoft didnt' sell me on the XBOX One out of the gate. I'll get the console certainly... but the ps4 just really nailed it.

and yeah, I keep saying resogun has that "tetris" quality about it... just one more, just one more, just one more.... :P It may dethrone Battleblock Theater as my favorite indie this year.

well said.. its a whole lot of over exposing the stuff we already know about electronics and failure rates. I think gamers have a right to be leery after last gen, with the 360 and ps3 to an extent, but it's not really an appropriate way of claiming victory for rival factions a day after launch. Its a carousel argument, one that goes round and round that no one every wins and no one is ever smart enough to just drop.

My crystal ball says the Xbox one will have turds at launch just like the ps4... can we make the threads now and get them out of the way? let me know when the consoles have a real problem.

The thing is that many these failures happened over years not hours. There is a big difference between a device dying after several months/years of wear and dying immediately or after just a few hours. The Xbox 360 RROD was not normal and neither or the current PS4 failures.

If true, that says more about how Amazon handles your merchandise than anything.... b/c the rate of failure elsewhere is nowhere near 25%.
