UK 360 and PS3 price comparison after price drop

Assuming 120gb drive

One year

360 Elite(£199.99), WiFi Adaptor(59.99), Charging kit(6.99) plus 1 years online subscription (39.99) total £306.96 pounds.
PS3 Slim (249.99) (Includes Wifi, Charging kit, online is free)

Five years later

360 + 4 years subscription total 466.92
PS3 total 249.99

Looking at current market place prices I'd say the PS3 Blu-ray player is worth £150.

Am I missing something? or is the PS3 a REALLY good deal?

Would be interesting if somebody could do the same pricing for a PC based media PC?

I brought an Elite at the start of this year ($650AU, came with Lego Indy, Kung-Fu Panda, N4S Undercover, Mass Effect, extended warrantee and extra controller). I already had a wireless router so I just moved my modem and router to near the 360 (no need for WiFi). I already had a battery charger kit (got it with my camera). I also just got a year of XBL Gold virtually free with Halo 3 (AU$99 for the game and Gold ... some places are still selling Halo 3 for $99 by itself).

At the time the PS3 here was AU$650 by itself.

For £50 more than the base price of the PS3 Slim you can get a years gold, wi fi adaptor, 4200 points, and 2 of the best games this generation.
Or for £199, £50 less than PS3 Slim, you can get 2 games and an extra pad.

Never just look at the base prices, shop around, there will also be some great deals coming on the PS3 Slim I am sure. Such a shame I was one of these peeps who "had to" buy a PS3 and the 360 when the first came out, but then again you can't put a price on all those great gaming hours.

Why would you include 4 years of XBL in the initial price?

No one buys a video game console while looking four years into the future. It doesn't work that way in real life. So why should it apply to SW? Its not like the 360/PS3 is some type of collateral property (car,House, etc)

The PS3 is a great deal, and the better console imo, but really now. Weak attempts like this further the opinion that it's not worth the money.

Since when were accessories added in to the console price? Why not go further, add in games, time played vs time that could be spent earning money, etc

I got 1 month xbl with my halo3 :( and although not everyone needs the wifi, it's worth noting it in a comparison

The simple fact is that ps3 doesn't have as many good games, and the online community is severely lacking. That's why the 360 is better and is selling better, even with a 54% failure rate. The ps3 is just bad.

Please for the love of god can they stop including xbox live gold and the wireless adapter into the equation. If i do that then why dont i include blu-ray movies into that or the pc i built to play the pc/xbox exclusives that dont come to the ps3. The argument is done just compare what GAMING features it has out the box and then go from there if you feel the ps3 is the better deal fine but dont include accessories cause that is just lame.

Oh dont forget the hard drive you gotta replace for all the installs and updates you gotta do for that system.

Bluetooth headsets for phones arent that expensive i picked my one i use with my PS3 for £12 :S wouldnt say thats expensive to be honest..The official one is but if your like me and read up you save yourself loads of money. :P

First you put four years of XBL? Yeah maybein four years PSN isn't free anymore. Second you know the batteriesin the PS3 controller are going to run out someday so you have to buy a new controller the day they do. So put the cost of the PS3 controller up there too. Least on the 360 you replace the battery. Also XBL is better then PSN.

Is it just me or hare Micro$oft really charging crazy prices for hardware..

e.g.

360 60gb drive = £45 pounds

360 120gb drive = £90 pounds

PS3 320gb drive = £40 pounds

PS3 500gb drive = £70 pounds

Although I have to admit that the 360 drive is a lot easier to fit.. I not convinced by the rip off prices.

So your tauting the BD as a major feature for the PS3, right? You do realize you would be spending more year to year on BD over DVD then you would paying the XBL subscription fees? Unless of course you have no intention of actually using the BD , which would negate the claim it's a major advantage over the 360...

I think my figures show that the PS3 is good value for money without factoring in Blu-ray, the fact that you get Blu-ray as well is just pure icing on the cake.. So even if you didn't buy BD media you can still enjoy upscaled DVD media through your PS3. Blu-ray is replacing DVD, sales are up and the prices are down.. Its fantastic quality and why not spend a few quid extra to match your HD-TV's finer qualties? Oxymandias

What does it matter what console costs more? The only difference is that Microsoft are actually making money off thier console and Sony isn't.

if you looked for about 10 minutes browsing a few web pages you could get: an elite for £195 with pgr4 and sega tennis (well at least one of them is good) on argos,

a 12+1 card for xbox live for £22 on ebay and a few other sites (add to the 1 free and you have 14 months)

wi-fi adapter for £40 on ebay (or buy a ****** gaming adapter for less and its better quality)

yes the ps3 is a good deal but dont compare it by the rrp prices
