Halo 3's leveling up (EXP not the skill which you get in ranked matchs) depends on ur team, win a team slayer match you get 1 point, lose a team slayer match nothing happens, simple as that, play as many team slayer matches as you can and you will win in some no matter what, also alot of people cheat in halo 3 nowadays anyway

mingo123

Indeed I noticed a couple of cheaters while playing ranked matches yesterday.

Its either that, or they have X-ray game vision.

they get shut down in few years :P

mingo123

Tell that to the people who still host and play on TF cl.assic servers :|

they pay for the servers, well atleast the host pays for them:D

Nope.

ISPs host the servers to cater to what their customers want.

Heck most of the servers are ISP hosted, and ISPs duke it out for the most servers, with the best bandwith, so there is alway a nice selection.

how many servers do they have for each game?

Depends on the game.

More popular = more servers

also arent servers set to 1 setting e.g. either 1 map is set which cant be changed with same gametype etc etc so you have to keep playing same game all over again with no map change or gametype change

There are ISPs, rented, and player hosted.

Hell for games like Tribes:V there are still ISP hosted games.

I only need to check steam servers for Australia now, and there are tons of Internode and (telstra) Game Arena servers.

Hell I have a close family member who runs a couple of ISPs that cover the Asia Pacific region.

Hell no.

There are few specialised servers like for CS which only focus on certain maps - like Dust 1 and 2 only servers.
Then there are servers that cover everything, are random, or done according to player vote (most commen)
Of course there are custom maps / mod servers ect. aswell.

While i like TF2, there's no way it is better then Halo 3's multiplayer.. people may prefer TF2, but Halo 3's multiplayer is so well flushed out while TF2 is so basic and provides little options. TF2 really is a trimmed TFC, while Halo 3 is a great expansion on the existing MP of the halo series..oh, and if w'ere talking about TF2 on the 360(i don't have experience with the PC version), it suffers from alot of issues(well, more then halo 3 does as far as i can tell).

I'd also like to note that i do prefer TF2 myself.

The only thing I really hate about Halo 3 multiplayer is more with the entire game itself... Proper Jump physics seem to be non-existant... (causing the floaty effect...)

the only major problem is lag which was reduced by the patch, now i can play some 16 player games with no lag at all, also Halo 3 has major problems like double melee glitch, theres ranking glitch, lag problems which let you lunge from a mile away to melee someone, sniper shots not registering etc etc and that was all 2 weeks ago when i last played halo 3, god knows how many more glitches people have found out so far, also there is a glitch that lets youget out of any map in halo 3

I must admit, I'm totally enthralled by TF2. To the extend were I'm willing to say it's one of the best MP shooters I've ever played. This is coming from someone who has played online shooters since the beginning (Quake 1).

That wasnt the only major problem, searching wasn't too great... plus i'm actually still having some lag problems, and problems finding ranked matches.

glitches always seem to exist in MP games, gears had em.. ya they suck, but i haven't had any major problems with them yet to be honest. While the lag issue with TF2 is not excusable.

Even then, more glitches doesn't determine the worse multiplayer.. especially since halo has FAR more substance then TF2. i'm just saying that at launch(and for some now) TF2 is frustratingly hard to actually play.

havent tried ranked matches yet but yeh searching is broken....but once you get in a game that is lagless with 16 players, its 1000x more fun then halo 3

Ohhhh boy, I was going to reply to your other post but this did it for me.

In terms of gameplay Halo offerns knowhere as much depth and substance in gameplay in comparison to TF2.

Halo 3 is very good because it offers so much, and is quite solid. However this is part of one of its major problems. It doesent execute anything perfectly or very well, simply because it covers such a broad range. Its gameplay and game types are all far from perfect in execution and gameplay. Its a bit of a mix mash. It caters to everything, but as a result doesent execute that well. Thus the total package is very good, but each specific mode and gameplay is just good.

In comparison to TF2 which pulls off multiplayer class based teamplay almost perfectly. There is amazing balance, and huge depth in gameplay (mainly due to the classes). For what it is it is pretty much perfect - though unlike Halo 3 it focuses specifically on the single gameplay formula and few game modes.

Another great example is the king of multiplayer games, counter strike. It focuses on a very specific type of gameplay and structure, and few game modes, and is executed almost perfectly for what it is, as a team based shooter.

Look at Battlefield - its only game mode is variations of its original conquest mod.

This is what sets Halo 3 apart from those other multiplayer FPSs.
To quote someone else on these forums 'It is the do-er of everything and the master of none'.
But that doesent mean it doesent offer great mp - which it does (worth nothing I see halo 3s MP as its most noteworthy feature).

I didn't say TF2 was completely shallow; but perhaps you misunderstood me. I meant Halo 3 had alot more to offer; ie maps, game modes, forge, online coop(that is multiplayer, right?).. yes clas and team based gameplay can be deep; but halo also has team modes and the variety of weapons, plus the vantage points, add depth as well.. it's not without its own depth. Also; i'm not sure i'm in complete agreeance that each of halo's individual features are only "good"; perhaps individually they are not as good as TF2, but they're at least "great".. whatever "good" and "great" mean.

Again; i agree TF2 is fun, but i honestly don't think it has anything on Halo's MP overall(in terms of quality). There's just so much halo offers, and it does it all so well(perhaps not perfectly, true.. but as you said; it is still great). Plus, isn't halo's matchmaking process really good?(teaming up after games, blah blah.. i dunno; i don't have much experience with that)

Halo 3 boasts a larger variety of gametypes and levels. Also the fun factor in play Halo 3 with my friends dwarfs (......dwarves?) that of TF2.

TF2 is great though. I love it. And it excels at a lot of things, but generally.... I wouldn't say it's better than Halo 3 MP.

I agree! and so do half the people on my xboxlive freinds list. we stopped playing halo 3 to play tf2 and about a quarter of my xboxlive buddies went back to playing rainbow or gears. halo 3 was just more of halo 2. it was basically a really really expinsive expansion pack in my opinoin. i do like the four player campian co op though. it is fun when i can get four people together to play it.

Heck No...TF 2 has 6 maps, 2 gametypes and thats it. People just love to bash the King of Online Gaming that is Halo, because its exclusive to a Microsoft Console.

Halo 3 MP is much better and has a lot more variety so you don't get bored easily. TF2 is very monotonous.

Funny, it was never the king of online gaming to begin with.
