[QUOTE="Couth_"]That's fine if it doesn't fly with you, but it's true. If games weren't getting better the industry would be stagnant and probably dead by now. It's not about technology, but technology allows for more potential. Programmers are more talented than ever. And some developers are able to be more creative than ever.

And yes, it's either Nostalgia or System Wars that's blinding you. Both of which are fail. Just because a game gets hyped to the moon on a message board, doesn't mean it's the greatest thing of all time. But if a game is getting high praise from the media and GAMERS a like, it's probably deserving.

Arjdagr8

Not at all. The first being I don't listen to reviews because they are not written with any sort of competancy or integrity by neutral people. The imaturity of the gaming media has taught me that they have nothing worth listening to. Disagree if you like but its not like its difficult to find examples of this piss poor attitude and journalism (or lack of) they display.

Also no, there is no reason for me to believe games are getting better than the best of old. None at all. Technology increasing and creativity is fine, it still doesn't make the games themselves better. It makes them better technical pieces but that really isn't all of a big selling point. I'm not saying games have gotten worse either. I'm saying that they are no where near the point on which we should put them on such a high pedistal. Developer performance is nice, its not a factor when I compare the elemnets of the games however. I'm not nostalgic when I say Yoshi's Island is a better platfromer than anything released. I'm also not nostalgc when I say SM64 isn't a great game and Galaxy blows it out of the water.

Gamers also are hardly worth listening to. We all have way too much of an emotional attachment to what we hype. I trust this message board about as much as I trust the media. That is virtually zero. There are a few people here who give good incite but gamer praise from people who take part is "System Wars" is not worth my time.

Imo, that's a really negative way of looking at things. I prefer gaming now than ever before. But that's just me.

I don't look at it as negative. The problem people see when I post something like this is that it is the internet so its so literal. I really do not trust reviews at all. I still read tons of reviews however. Just for lots of different reasons that help me decide if I can justify money and a game. Gamers really are not that trustabe though. I can't exactly ask my FPS loving buddues to review A Boy and His Blob can I? Especially since I'm younger than most on this board a lot of people I know lack experience in many genres and such. As for games getting better. I just don't think that. I said I don't think they are getting worse eother. I think they are basically the same except less memorable. Its not extreme negativity more so than being more critical than most people.

I played OOT like 3-4 years ago because of all the fuss and the greatness people talked a bout...

After 2 hours i got bored.... I never understood what made it so special , though since most like it i guess is good...

Though i prefer Wind over OOT anytime...

Right. So why enter a thread about two games you have not beat, without intent to discuss the topic? That's off topic and against the ToS. Looks like you need to take a look at the System Wars Information sticky again.

Couth_

So let the mods handle it then. I went off on another tangent, if it is deemed too off topic I'll get moderated. Not exactly sure why it even matters since this whole conversation we are having is off topic ;)

SW has a wider tolarence about offtopic posting than most boards. You yourself (and myself) are offtopic now, for example.

Nah i honestly think they are getting better. I tried playing some of my old classics that i loved. While i still love them as to what they did for me back when i first played them and consider them memorable, playing them now was pretty unsatisfying.

[QUOTE="Arjdagr8"] I see what you mean, but as long as you don't compare it directly (like you said) and see the game for what it is, I think you'll have a better experience. Just don't even try to compare two different games like ocarina of time and uncharted 2.Arjdagr8

Well yeah. I'm not going to bother comparing. What is there to even compare? Graphics? Nope. Sound? Incredibly subjective. Gameplay? Subjective and not even similar at all. If you grade on pure design components you would probably have OoT win simply due to the fact that people generally say it holds up well after 11 years but its not really a fair comparison since Uncharted 2 is still being rviewed.

Well i'd rather not break down uncharted like that. Uncharted 2 is pretty much the definition of the whole is better than the sum of its parts.....wayyyyyy better.

I'll have to wait until December to see. I expect it to be good, who knows though, it may be amazing may not. By then we'll have all of this GOTY talk though. Probably just stay away from the forums until then.

[QUOTE="khoofia_pika"]First of all, WHAT THE HECK! Ocarina of Time is said to be the greatest game ever created. Uncharted 2 is not. Ocarina of Time is waaay too old now. Uncharted 2 was released very recently. Ocarina of Time is is an action adventure game with swords. Uncharted 2 is a shooter with stealth elements. HOW CAN YOU EVEN COMPARE THOSE TWO?!

Exactly. Thread=fail.

My favourite games always feel great to play. Hence why they are my favourites. That's also a problem. Sometimes you need to play games more then once and over long period of time to see if they hold up.

Oh really? C'mon. Ocarina of Time is timeless, you can pick up the game now and still get the beautiful epic feel from it. Will you be able to do that with Uncharted 10 years from now?

Honestly this is Cows vs Everyone else pollwise, but I think Uncharted 2 has the potential to be a classic game, but it is too early for a poll like this. Did not vote.

Well, one thing I can say is that it improves upon the original in many ways while adding multiplayer, I got it on day one, beat it in around 9 hours on normal and I think it may deserve the hype it got. That's just me though.

I really can't believe people would pick an ancient game over U2. They must have not played U2 or nostalgia is kicking in.

Uncharted 2 is one of the best games of this gen.

But I dont even give a damn about the score... Ocarina of Time is not only a masterpiece,a work of art,and the reason I love Nintendo, its the best game ever created. (In my opinion and i'm sure many other people's opinions as well)

Also Ocarina of Time has a soundtrack that almost no other game touches.

I love both. However, Ocarina of Time was just pure magic to me and lasted longer(obviously in singleplayer). Uncharted 2 on the other hand, has the most amazing environments I have seen in a game to date, which is important to me because I'm obsessed with stuff like that. I CHOOSE ---beep---beep---beep---

By today's standards i'm picking Uncharted 2.

But if you consider the impact of each game then you obviously have to pick OOT. The game revolutionized controls and 3D environments/gameplay.

Old school vs new school...

What are you? You cant live in the past, i mean, who still plays OOT right now instead of COD4, WoW, SMG, Halo 3 etc

Besides that, look at the amount of reviews for uncharted 2 and oot... I bet it isnt the SAME PERSON that reviewed OOT and Uncharted 2.

Either way, gamerankings is for fanboys. You only need the 3-5 major sites to know if the game is for you, and worth buying.

Oot brought something new and revolutionary, i haven't played Uncharted 2 yet, but it doesn't seem to do anything new, it looks like it's a very very good game "stealing" all the standart features moderns games have, and there's really nothing wrong with that, but this lack of special features will make it dated by the time the bext big revolutionary game drops.

The fact that OoT is winning in this poll gives me hopefor System Wars yet :)

ActicEdge

Really, I actually find it pathetic that people base which game is better on their nostalgia rather than the actual quality and work put into making an extremely fun game with a great entertaining story and amazing mix of 3rd person shooter, puzzles, and platforming.:|

My God, have you ever played a good platformer or puzzle game? I reallly need to play Uncharted 2 so I can be disappointed by the aspects people are praising. I'm sure it will be a damn amazing expierence but I'm also sure I will not find any competent puzzles or platforming either.

Why do you question my experience in video games? Everyone has their own opinion and that is mine. And I never said that it has the best platforming or best puzzles. I am saying its the best in the sense that it mixes them all into one game along with the 3rd person shooter elements which is the most important aspect of the game. I have played good platformers lately. Does my praise of a game really anger you?

This is ridiculous. You're comparing 2 games, 2 gens apart that are completely different from each other. The only similarities are that both achieved critical acclaim amongst the media and fans alike. These 'x vs y' threads are really starting to annoy me.
