[QUOTE="ActicEdge"][QUOTE="Couth_"]That's fine if it doesn't fly with you, but it's true. If games weren't getting better the industry would be stagnant and probably dead by now. It's not about technology, but technology allows for more potential. Programmers are more talented than ever. And some developers are able to be more creative than ever.
And yes, it's either Nostalgia or System Wars that's blinding you. Both of which are fail. Just because a game gets hyped to the moon on a message board, doesn't mean it's the greatest thing of all time. But if a game is getting high praise from the media and GAMERS a like, it's probably deserving.

Not at all. The first being I don't listen to reviews because they are not written with any sort of competancy or integrity by neutral people. The imaturity of the gaming media has taught me that they have nothing worth listening to. Disagree if you like but its not like its difficult to find examples of this piss poor attitude and journalism (or lack of) they display.
Also no, there is no reason for me to believe games are getting better than the best of old. None at all. Technology increasing and creativity is fine, it still doesn't make the games themselves better. It makes them better technical pieces but that really isn't all of a big selling point. I'm not saying games have gotten worse either. I'm saying that they are no where near the point on which we should put them on such a high pedistal. Developer performance is nice, its not a factor when I compare the elemnets of the games however. I'm not nostalgic when I say Yoshi's Island is a better platfromer than anything released. I'm also not nostalgc when I say SM64 isn't a great game and Galaxy blows it out of the water.
Gamers also are hardly worth listening to. We all have way too much of an emotional attachment to what we hype. I trust this message board about as much as I trust the media. That is virtually zero. There are a few people here who give good incite but gamer praise from people who take part is "System Wars" is not worth my time.
Imo, that's a really negative way of looking at things. I prefer gaming now than ever before. But that's just me.I don't look at it as negative. The problem people see when I post something like this is that it is the internet so its so literal. I really do not trust reviews at all. I still read tons of reviews however. Just for lots of different reasons that help me decide if I can justify money and a game. Gamers really are not that trustabe though. I can't exactly ask my FPS loving buddues to review A Boy and His Blob can I? Especially since I'm younger than most on this board a lot of people I know lack experience in many genres and such. As for games getting better. I just don't think that. I said I don't think they are getting worse eother. I think they are basically the same except less memorable. Its not extreme negativity more so than being more critical than most people.
