rough year, i think it will come down to them skyrim and batman AC....i dont want to say BF3 or MW3 because FPS games seem to have the roughest time winning, tho BF3 might get it

Against Battlefield 3, Dark Souls, and the new Deus Ex game, I doub't Uncharted will win again. Apparently the new Deus Ex game is absolutly amazing in the level of depth it has.
only one you listed that might stand a chance is Dark Souls ... Deux Ex is not gonna be GOTY worthy, and I doubt another military shooter wins a GOTY this gen.[QUOTE="mercclass"]i never knew gears won a game of the year before. How many did Gears win?

It won game of the year on Gamespot.

cod4 won because it redefined the series, if BF3 redfines the BF series then there is a possilbility for it winning.only time will tell i guess

well in 2006 there was nothing like the first gears.[QUOTE="kuraimen"]Uncharted is still award king :)FIipModeBattlefield 3 got that actually. 30 to Uncharted's 20.
Both VERY deserving games. Probably my top two most anticipated games at the moment. Although Skyward Sword, SSX, and others come close. Oh and obviously Diablo III, but I am waiting for a more solid release before considering that lol.
Eh, Uncharted shouldn't win to many awards this year. It didn't have a particualrly stong showing. I hope Zelda wins some awards. It just looks amazing.

I hope so! I've been waiting forever for another good Deus Ex game.and gaming journalism continues to disapoint me... I don't want Uncharted to become the goal for any genre of gaming. It's harmful to the industry IMO. Becoming more like movies and taking control away from the player is a horrible trend right now and it never gets punished the way it should. I think video game journalism should reward games for outstanding gameplay not cinematic flourish.
It's gameplay and control that seperates video games from other mediums sogames should be rewardedfor playing totheir strengths.
To me, Uncharted 2 was a 7.5/10 GAME (the actual game part of it was rather mediocre) and Uncharted 3 hasn't shown me anything outside of impressivewater effects to make me think it will be any better.

Uncharted 2 has some of the best gameplay there is. I never say this, but...Haters gonna hate.
Uncharted doesn't take control away from the player, that's why people like it so much, the set pieces which are usually cut scenes in games are playable in Uncharted.and gaming journalism continues to disapoint me... Really? It wasn't too slow for you or too repetative? The number and variety of weapons didn't underwhelm you. The platforming that was so linear the game might as well play those sections for you didn't bother you? The frequent interuption of cutscenes taking you away from the gameplay didn't bother you?I'm sorry, I just felt there was too much wrongwith the game personaly.there were onlytwo parts that I truely enjoyed: The car chase chapter and the animal puzzle. They were great, but the rest of the game was extremely underwhelming
P.S. there was nothing worse than having to follow Tenzen through the ice caves. So pointless in terms of gameplay and how many times can having stuff break under Nathan's weight be exciting or interesting?
Everything is in real time dude, there is no cinematics other than the cutscenes, all the set pieces that take place involve the user. You fail so hard in your attempt to discredit the game, because with each point you make it becomes more and more obvious that you've never played any game in the series. Also one of best things about these games is that the stoppage in play is so few and far in between, it only loads before chapters.and gaming journalism continues to disapoint me... Nope. I don't remember it feeling that way at all. Scenes are not that long and have always been in games, even in old ones. The gunplay is fun, the sneaking allows for different approaches, and the game puts you into the cinematic action. It doesnt show drake doing it, it puts you in the situation which is awesome. And the multiplayer is addictive. I LOVE Uncharted. It is one of the best series I have ever played. It is one of few seriees that can go neck and neck with the best Nintendo ones. Clearly its somewhat of an opinion, just as I find Pikmin very dull (I should give it another shot).

I definately played the game. Don't say I didn't. I have a pretty in depth impressions blog entry about the game. Check it out.

Agreed completely. The series is unique because it doesnt show you somethign cinematic, it puts you in that situation instead.

Don't get me wrong, Uncharted 3 does look great :P The problem however is, Uncharted 3 had a weak showing compared to Uncharted 2. Uncharted 2's was surprising, the graphics looked more impressive (for the time they were shown), and the action was something unseen before. The Uncharted 3 demo was unsurprising, and the trailer was somewhat lacking in content as well. I just think others deserve the award more this year.
Anyway E3 is more about who had the best demo, not the best game. An Award here does not mean squat about the final product. Just look at Scribblenauts.
