It has nothing to do with 1080p, 720p is fine for high resolutions. If you have low rez textures you can have 100080p and it will look horrible, the resolution is bottlenecked.

I agree that PS3's HD graphics are a little underwhelming, I think it's because that most games on the PS3 don't support 1080p. Even the game I'm looking forward to the most, Killzone 2, is only in 720p.ElectronicMagic

that is because your monitor is small so sdtv and hd really is no differance. try a 52" hd screen and hook it up in sdtv then hook it up in hd and see if you say the same thing.

the ps 3 looks like crap in sdtv setting on a hd 52" tv.

EmperorSupreme

do you have any idea what you're talking about?

Actually that is somewhat true. The bigger your TV the more important HD resolutions become.

well either way, a 24 in monitor(which is what was refered to) will kick the **** and spit on a 24in sdtv

Only reason they're "underwhelming" is because you have a gaming PC... the whole MOTHER of gaming graphics.

You can't possibly play Uncharted or MGS4 and tell me it doesn't look amazing. Oh well, to each their own I guess.

You need to have HDMI cables to actually get 720+

If you don't have HDMI cables, then there's no point in hooking up a PS3 or Xbox to an HDTV.

TenP

Um... haven't you heard of component cables.

That's because the PS3 comes with composite cables, unless you were just being sarcastic....

not really....i thought it would worked like the 360, but it kept switching back to 480i

Today i went through the hassle of disconnecting my Ps3 from my SDTV and connect to my 24 inch monitor (the one i use for my PC) through HDMI. The reason is Wipeout HD (finally!) coming. So, I played with a few games to see them again, or for fist time, "In their true glory."

The results... worst than i expected. Now I believe that many of them look better on my SDTV. At least the 480i signal hides most of the low res textures, aliasing, underwhelming lighting and bad framerate-screen tearing... This only makes me mad that the PSN store is so hard to navigate in 480i, the console doesn't win much from teh HD!.

loco145

Either your monitor has a low resolution or you're PS3 isn't outputting in 720P or 1080p. Both games and movies look a million times better in HD my friend.

Its the same thing with the 360 and the PS3 in all fairness, HD makes some games look much better, but it also makes graphical flaws stand out alot more.Snugenz

In fairness, the 360 has much better textures and therefore benefits much more from HDTV.

Well its your opinion but ps3 games look great. You would be a jokester to say 360 games look better than ps3, both have great looking games. Maybe if your a pc gammer i could see you comming and dissing some ps3 games because i myself game alot on PC and find alot of console games ugly, but wipeout hd, mgs4, and uncharted are all great looking games(and those are just a few)

So your monitor supports 1920x1080 resolution? And we're talking about a computer monitor correct? My brand new 22" LG native resolution is 1680x1050, so possibly you maybe coming across a issue of scaling that is making things not quite look right. I'm not sure but if your not seeing a difference then something is amiss, cause there should definitly be a difference.

It could be your monitor.

Many TVs will say they are HD ready or full HD. They are, but it might not be a good quality.

You see when I got a HD tv, I got a 26" HD ready sony bravia, now with that money I could have shopped around and gotten a 32" tv by a lesser known company. But I bet you everything that the TV I got would have a better contrast ratio, better colours, better sound ect.

Theres no point buying a big HD 1080p HD if all the pixles that make it are rubbish. HD just means there are a certain amount of pixles, it does not mean they will be good ones.

You can do it on PS3 too, but many TV's won't accept a 1080p signal over component. The 360 can also do it over VGA.

console gaming in general now a days in underwhleming. Consoles are always great when they are released because the tech is new and not maxed, but now both consoles are maxed graphically. graphics always get worse when u look at them for awhile. heck i remember thinking ps2 graphics were amazing and so real, but now, lol look at it!

Well, since you are a PC gamer too you should already know that hooking up a 360/PS3 to your monitor is basicaly downgrading your graphics to PC games from 2-3 yrs ago.

same, the difference from my SDTV to my 32" HDTV when playing bioshock was a real eye opener, now regualr TV just don't cut if for me anymore.

I have heard this many times, and I am not calling you a liar, but can you point me to ANY 1080P sets that don't accept 1080P over component? Any at all? I am of the mind that this is more myth than fact. I believe some of the early 1080P sets might not have accepted 1080P over component, but most if not all current sets will.

PS3 looks worse in HD than it does in SD?

Are you sure you're doing it right?

For a long while, I had been playing my Xbox 360 on a 19" SDTV and wondering if the jump to HD was really as big as people say. Then, I finally got some VGA cables, a gender changer (for the VGA cable, get your minds out of the gutter) and started playing on my 20" HD monitor.

The difference was huge. Sure, some graphical flaws like aliasing (especially in Forza 2) were more prominent but as a whole, games looked far better than they ever did on my SDTV. Now, after playing this way for many months, it's hard to go back to playing games in SD.

Try a 37 inch Bravia 1080 HD and come back.

It will only looks worse with a bigger screen. His 24inch can display games at an higher resolution then ur 1080p HD, and he says it sux. If u increase the screensize the faults will only be easier to spot (bad textures, bad aa etc.)

but also the bigger the screen gets the further you should sit back, making it harder to notice the extra resolution

[QUOTE="Ibacai"]Looks better in SD? I guess that's your opinion....I'm going to chuckle and disagree but doesn't matter much.Teufelhuhn

Yes I think I'm going to do the same, and happily play my PS3 on a 42" plasma. :)

Well in all fairness playing games in a SDTV does do a better job of hiding bad textures, "jaggies", and other graphical flaws. I'm not saying SD is better then HD but I can see where the TC is coming from and to be honest some games on the PS3 and 360 look a little disappointing when played on a HDTV. I believe this generation of consoles just aren't powerful enough to really handle HD resolutions.

I have mine hooked up to my Bravia, and the difference is just amazing. Night and day really.

The PS3 outputs fantastic HD content, and Wipeout: HD stands out as one of the nicest looking games on the console market today. Your monitor must suck.
