According to PSM3. Sources have told them that GoW 4 is in full development and is coming late 2012.

Interesting.
I hope this one will be better than GOW3.I was disappointed.JLF1
Agreed, story wise it was a huge disappointment.

Ghost of Sparta was NOT better than gow3
We've had 5 gow games in 5 years each with minimal changes. When a handheld game is better(ghost of sparta) than its console counterpart(gow3) something is wrong. It's time reinvent the franchise.[QUOTE="MFDOOM1983"]

To each their own.Lol @ people being disappointed at the story. There are so many games with better story's than GoW. If you want story then play an RPG. If you want crazy bosses, a challenging game, and extremely fun brutal, versatile gameplay that does gore better than almost all others, play God of War 3.
Story and presentation were the only things separating gow from vastly superior character action games like DMC, NG and to a lesser extent bayonetta.Lol @ people being disappointed at the story. Bayonetta had a bad story. And the presentation of GOW3 is better than any of those games.

That was his point though. NG, DMC, Bayonetta have worse presentation and story but much better gameplay.
EDIT:
Nevermind.
I want GOW 4! Mortal Kombat cannot be Kratos's last appearance, as much I can't wait to play as Kratos in MK the game humanises him and he doesn't seem much of a killing machine like in the GOW games. Most franchises this gen have had multiple entries whilst GOW has just one on consoles. Kratos definitely deserves one more entry in the franchise this gen.
GOW3 was great but I am sure most of the time went towards building the engine from scratch, a lot of things were surely learnt from GOW3 development that the devs can very well apply and perfect for the 4th entry. And since the story is over the devs can now get a lot more creative and take series to a whole new level.
Regarding the time frame I think it would be perfect for GOW4 to release Sept 2012, would be just over two years since GOW3 which I am sure is enough time to create a stellar title. I mean Naughty Dog took just two years from Uncharted to Uncharted 2 and look how much better that title is compared to the original. 2 years is enough indeed.
They need to start fresh, no more Kratos.lbjkurono23-_- are you serious? Kratos is awesome I honestly dont see how they are "milking" anything. Just as long the game up holds its owns standards i dont see an issue.

So they made kratos not only kill all the greek gods, but he will now kill the Norse and Egyptian ones as well? (taking a shot in the dark here :P)

The gore and brutality mixed in with the visuals/presentation with a focus on epic greek mythology is what separated GoW... Games like DMC and Bayonetta are more like arcade titles with very fun combat. I mean for crying out loud, they give you are numeric score for how well you do for each individual level. These games are aren't vastly superior action games either. You can have just as much of a great time playing through GoW games, especially GoW 3 because that's where the combat and combos are the best.Lol @ people being disappointed at the story. Why continue all the Mario games or Zelda games?
hopefully this one will actually have replayability. and less button mashing.

Use more than square square triangle then and stop complaining. You can use all four weapons to pull off combos

The hardest difficult in GoW 3 is ridiculous, I bet you haven't tried it. Even the second to hardest was very very tough. Also, there are things you can easily miss playing through it once (certain special items which unlock powers you can turn on in the next playthrough). In addition, there's extra challenges and a battle arena that you can unlock in which you can fight any monster and you have access to all the weapons fully upgraded so you can practice combos. There goes your replayability argument

Um, it is, except they put their own twist on it. Starting from the first game, a lot of the gods and background stories about them come from the actual stories except they found their own special way of including Kratos into it.

I can't button-mash my way through NG, DMC or Bayonetta. I can easily do it on GoW.
GoW is great and all but it's a weak action-game when it comes to the actual combat.

I agree that the other games exceed GOW in the combat area though
god of war is always welcome in my house, loved god of war 1 2 3, ghost of sparda basically of them.

depends ion the difficulty you are playing the game...you can't button mash in titan mode

Giancar
That's very true.
I think a better way to prove my point would be to compare how these franchises uses higher difficulties. GoW gets hard, really hard, but not in a fair way. It's more or less based on luck when it comes to the bosses on Titan mode. Especially when it comes attacks's you can't block.
When I play NG, DMC or Bayonetta I do it for the combat and the feel that I get better and better. In GoW I never feel like I can become better as there is nothing I can learn. I play GoW for Story, presentation, graphics and the fun gameplay (mainly one play-through on medium). I play DMC, NG and Bayonetta to test my skills.
It's really fun but for different reasons.
