The technology behind that system was amazing at the time; the graphics were full color and they looked great. The system was quite powerful and Master System games were easily ported to Game Gear Cartridges.

I think it required six batteries and they would drain at the speed of light though. And software support was weak since they were competing with Nintendo.

Atari Lynx had a bright backlight and full color with 3D effects with an adapter to play 2600 games (and I think 5200) It had wonderful software and if I am not mistaken had made more profit then the Gamegear did well, until they pulled out because of the Jaguar but yeah.

If anything, then, they would both be ahead of the time but I prefered the Game Gear to the Lynx.

Turbo express was the most advanced though cost $250. Followed by lynx which was the first to have color backlight screen and have zoom capability.

That's the best color I wish Nintendo made more handhelds in that color.

I purchased my Gameboy Color when it was bundled with Pokemon Crystal.

At first I didn't like the color but then it grew on me.

Turbo's screen had the highest resolution. "In many ways, the TurboExpress was the best handheld game system of its time. Unlike Nintendo's Game Boy and Atari's Lynx, which played scaled-down games in comparison to full-size consoles that plugged into the TV. NEC's TurboExpress played full-sized TurboGrafx-16 games." http://psp.about.com/od/hardwarefirmware/a/Sonys-Playstation-Portable-And-Necs-Turboexpress.htm

Which barely anyone used, had worse sound, worse battery life, I don;t believe it had a backlight at first and when later models did it barely did anything, lack of parrelle animations which chocked on TG-16 games that did, Playing Legendary Axe 2 at all is all but impossible freaking flickering lights, gave me nightmares.

Ya sounds like it had a lot of cons including bad capacitors leading to issues, but we are talking strictly from a hardware standpoint. It only sold 1.5milion.

The Lynx had better and more reliable hardware. The only advantage the Express had was resolution.

I like the 3DS (pictured belongs to my kid). But, I think I'm going to like better the bigger screen and and games lineup of the Vita. The Vita screen is supposed to be bigger than the PSP's.

Of the handhelds that I have owned, I would rank them:

  1. Ninendo Gameboy
  2. Sega Gamegear
  3. Sony PSP
  4. Nintendo DS
  5. Gameboy Color
