I can see now that almost everyone here thinks MS is at fault for Scalebounds cancellation. Hey, why isn't there a thread showing Kamiyas apology for letting down his fans? Because it doesn't coordinate with the anti MS agenda?
We all know that Scalebound has been cancelled. The reason why seems to be because of delays in delivering a working product. So I wonder, could Crackdown 3 be the next cancelled game from MS?
The game was announced at E3 2014, the same show Scalebound was announced in, and was supposed to show off what the cloud could do for gaming with fully destructible environments in an open world city. A working demo was promised for the summer of 2016, but it never materialized. Additionally, Crackdown 3 was completely absent at last year's E3 which threw some red flags for some.
This could all be because Crackdown 3 was transitioning to Microsoft's play anywhere program and it could just be a standard delay. But with the way things went with Platinum, and the game not having a confirmed release date, it's not impossible that the game could be bordering on cancellation. Even when QB was delayed and announced for PC, they still showed it off and had release dates set.
What do you guys think?
Crackdown 3 was announced at Microsoft's press conference at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2014 in June 2014.
Scalebound has about 4 years in development. http://www.digitalspy.com/gaming/news/a818659/microsoft-cancels-scalebound/ Microsoft cancels Scalebound after four years of development.
Crackdown 3 would most likely need to reach year 2018 for it's 4th year in development.
Crackdown 3's planned release is year 2017.
Scalebound was also announced at 2014's E3. It's likely that crackdown was already in development in 2013 along with scalebound. They made a trailer and all. Scalebound was supposed to release this year as well.
@mark1974: I'm just going by what he said. He said he let his fans down, he was actually very nice and professional. Which is unheard of from him, the guy is a dick.

We’re sorry to say that on January 9, 2017, Microsoft Studios announced the cancellation of Scalebound. We are very disappointed things ended up this way, especially since we know many of our fans were looking forward to this game as much as we were.
Going forward, we will strive to continue delivering high-quality games to you, starting with NieR:Automata in March, and including products like GRANBLUE FANTASY Project Re:Link and LOST ORDER in the future.
We will keep working hard to meet your expectations and we look forward to your continued support!
President and CEO
Kenichi Sato
Can you point out the part where he admits guilt?
Whoops! Wrong guy.
As you may have already heard, Scalebound has unfortunately been canceled. I'm very sorry to everyone who was looking forward to this game.
Sorry to bring you such bad news at the start of the year. All I can do for you is to promise to keep delivering fun games.
I'll work extra hard to never have to let you down like this again, so I hope you will keep watching over us in the future too.
@mark1974: I'm just going by what he said. He said he let his fans down, he was actually very nice and professional. Which is unheard of from him, the guy is a dick.
We don't know the guy personally. Let's not call someone a dick from random things we read on the net. I'm sure every last one of us could be called a dick if looked at in such a limited way. I wouldn't pretend to know any of these people like that. And further more I don't care, I like what they create. For all I know Leonardo DaVinci was a real jerk but that is ok with me.
Kamiya gave a nice sounding professional response because it was good for his career to do so. Not because he feels wrong or that Microsoft is swell.
@mark1974: No the guy really is an asshole, have you read his tweets? He blocks people on Twitter all the time just because a fan asks him a question, they're all nice and loving and he just replys with blocked. He also said if you don't want to be blocked by me, don't tweet me. He's a douche.
@Zero_epyon: I'm talking about Kamiyas tweet, that's not Kamiya lol. That's PG CEO.
I know lol sry. I updated my post. My question is still open.
@Zero_epyon: No worries. And what question?
Where he admits that it was all PD's fault.
Prematurely announcing and showing a product seems to be the norm for developers these days and maybe it will start biting them in the ass. If you show a game that still hasn't released over two and one half years since it was teased, something is wrong.
@Zero_epyon: I never said he said it was all PG's fault. I said that he said that he let his fans down, and he did say that. This is non negotiable.
Although this is a possibility, I don't think there's any need for panic or hand-wringing until there is an announcement. I mean, ultimately all we can rest upon is speculation until we hear from the horse's mouth.
We've got E3 coming up in a few months anyway, and we may hear more before that as it is. I'm very much a fan of taking a "wait and see" attitude to these things.
@xhawk27: Oh my apologies. Glad to see Crackdown 3 is slated for a holiday release. Hopefully they show some footage at E3.

Your original post implied that MS wasn't at fault, meaning it was PG's fault and the it seemed like you tried to cite his apology as evidence. If you think MS had a hand in the game being a failure then you just have anti-MS agenda?
@Zero_epyon: I think you just read too much into what I was saying lol. The more info I look into and hear, yes I'm leaning toward this was more on Kamiyas side, than MS's. But I'm not 100% sure so I'm not going to say either way. His tweet also helps push my guess on who was more at fault.

ok then.

Even if you want to go that route and blame Kamiya you need to also remember the other several hundred people making the game. It's not like Kamiya is making this game on his own and just screwing around missing deadlines. It's just as irritating to me when a guy like Kojima gets all the respect in the world without typing a line of code and his huge team of people who work tirelessly are not even considered. Just a pet peeve of mine.
If Crackdown 3 gets chopped, I'll officially be pissed and heart broken. I could only be patched up with news about Borderlands 3. Crackdown is my ultimate co-op game to play.
Xbox Live had a weird promo campaign email before e3 last year where the graphics and wording was hinting at some kind of crackdown reveal but it just ended up being a few questions and tasks to earn a few bucks, was kind of a bummer as i was expecting something related to Crackdown 3.
No I don't think that Crackdown 3 will get cancelled and it won't just be a Scorpio exclusive either. They may scrap the cloud computing stuff so all that city wide destruction stuff will probably just be available if you play the game on the Scorpio though.
@mark1974: I'm aware of all that. I just didn't want to say Platinum Games in general because I know they consist of much more than the team that was working on Scalebound. And I don't blame them, because like I said, I don't know 100% sure who is at fault. I'm taking my best guess.
At this point it wouldn't surprise me. Part of me wonders if MS knows something we don't.... like World War 3 is about to start maybe....
Looks like it. I was interested in the game but the fact that you'd have to be connected to the cloud if you wanted that kind of physics didn't sound that good to me.

I think you are reaching really hard. Your supporting arguments are not solid enough to jump to the conclusion you are reaching. In fact I struggle to see how this argument would hold any weight in a situation where ScaleBound was not just canceled. Two different studios working on two different projects with different circumstances you cannot attribute anything from one situation to another.
That would be a PR nightmare for Microsoft. That's two major exclusives gone in a span of like a week if true.
I think before it gets cancelled, it would at least get delayed one more time. Getting an actual release date will be a good sign.

This is the most proper "You have no idea what you're talking about you idiot" post I've read in some time!
Phfffft... You can wish in one hand and Poo in the other and tell us which hand fill up first. :P
What?
Probably cancelled, was never a good seller. Crazy even making a new one.
Definitely true.
LOL its funny. All I've been reading is they will only make games that they think will sell. Even though there is no way they waited 8 years to make another Halo Wars because it was a huge seller. But here is a post stating its crazy to attempt another Crackdown because? Its not a good seller lol.
What happened to Deep Down, KUF2 and EQ Next? I bought a weeb station for those games.
Good question. They could get cancelled too.
It almost like a game never got cancelled before...

Kamiya did apologize, and Spencer said it was better for gamers.
What Spencer really meant is the following: "it's better for our financials in the short term."

If you read, I only commented on the part of the game not being a good seller, which is true. I THINK the first one sold 1.2 million or so, and the second sold around a million.
Would not probably mean much,Crackdown was never a big game, and lemmings hype it because the xbox one line up is simply abysmal.
The first game was good the second one was mediocre who knows how the 3rd one will end.
Come out on Scorpio and PC.
Another Xbox thread made by your friendly neighborhood PlayStation fanboy LOL. Gotta love it.
I'm a Playstation Fanboy now?
