Used game prices at gamestop

Can someone please freaking explain to me why a 2 year old game is selling at the same amount as a 2 month old game:?

GameStop + Activision = greedy bastards

I went into Game the other week (englands biggest game store) and they was selling second hand games for full price. I've been counting down the days for digital distribution to get big since at least the competition would knock them down a peg.

You want to buy used games, check out ebay.com, half.com, amazon.com, or estarland.com.

Ebay, Amazon, Gamecrazy have better deals for used games.

I dont shop at gamestop at all they are a bunch of greedy jerks. I only buy games at Game Crazy.

I never buy used games, ever. Because in Australia you only get on average $5 off for buying a pre-owned game, so when spending $120 on a full price game are seriously going to, just to save $5 buy a pre-owned game for $115? No, plus then the developer gets nothing from it as well so there's no way in hell I'd ever buy used games.

The price of used or even new games really depends how it's selling at the time. I have seen used games dirt cheap and also some new games the same way shortly after it's released. If the game is selling really well new or used the price will be very close (usually about $5.00 less than a new copy).

What do you expect? Gamestop makes maybe less than $3 per new game they buy, while a used game they will take a trade in for $15 then sell it for $55. So they are making $40 off used games.

I never buy used games, ever. True. I've also seen Too Human around for £5. Granted its not the best game in the world but its not crap. Also when you consider it was a main MS title and has been out for less than a year.

If they want to survive they have to keep their prices lower than Gamestop. Game Crazy has over 600 stores, while Gamestop has over 6000. Gamestop opens 600 each year alone. Game Crazy would not survive if they had values close to Gamestops. It isn't like they are doing amazing. Game Crazy is owned by Movie Gallery and in 2006 Game Crazy accounted for just 13% of the total revenue of Movie Gallery.

i shop at game plus..its a new gaming store, that's starting to open more stores...its sooo much better,

yes but IDC about this stuff from a business standpoint, see I know that is a perfectly logical reason but I dont care WHY gamestops prices are higher then Game Crazys, I care that they ARE.

gamestop used games are a big rip off. but to be fair . some times u can snag a good deal. like when i got GH AS with guitar brand newfor 10 bucks.

Price is determined by supply and demand.

They charge what they can get away with:

1. people are willing to pay that

2. people can go elsewhere for better deals, but don't for the most part

3. old DOES NOT equal cheap (look up Suikoden 2 prices on ebay for PS1)

4. People stop paying that much for used games = they stop charging it

5. Simple rule of business = charge as much as you can (the maximum people will still pay)

Zelda Twilight Princess is still 60, and that was the launch title for wiifunsohng

If you want to know why trade in values are so low and used values are so high, it is simply because no one keeps their games anymore. They play a game for 1-2 months and trade it in, and places like Gamestop take advantage of that by giving you the minimum for the trade and then trying to entice you with deals on their used products such as discounts on used games.
