I wasnt here back then, or whatever.
But I bet people like you would be saying "Ocarina is proof that CDs are not needed :S". .... doesnt matter, its better, thats just fact.

Prove it's fact. I dare you to try to make it a LEGIT fact.

Size for a start?
its not better cost wise... its not better and fails because it delayed the PS3s launch over a year, and delayed this gen substantially...It wasnt worth it because in 2 years they can make a brand new next gen system with a bluray player or whatever...with double the grahpics possibilities of the current gen for under $400.. thats why PS3 equipped with bluray is a joke.

This argument is kinda flawed - cows will just point out games like Resistence that take up more than 9GB of space... even though in many cases (such as that of Resistance), half of the data is redundant.Funkyhamster
Kind of like the argument that it is not needed is flawed.....................funny how you couch developers only seem to think that it is not needed.
Uhh. UT3 isn't that big of a game to begin with. It's already going to be ported so ya.
Blu-ray is needed for games.

remember that interview? Mark Rein was ratteling about how awesome blu-ray was bc they had enough room for the maps and that the 360 version would be severely limited because of the dual layer dvd.
Looks like he was wrong.

Couldnt they add maps VIA downloadable content and with the mod community? or would that be more of a HDD space rather than a Blu-Ray space thing?

yeah, but he was was talking about content on the disk
yes blu-ray isnt needed. but blu-ray gives the developers the chance to make much better games, imagine what mass effect would of been like on blu-ray. heaps more planets you can go to and the terrain would of been better to, you give a game maker more space to play with...then more possibilities are open.
and its not as though SONY is going to give them the option of working on a blu-ray dvd or not. its not as though blu-ray makes game making that much harder...so they just use as much space as they want from blu-ray.

that isnt the fault of blu-ray, thats because they didnt want to make heaps n heaps of maps and put them onto the disk, remember...not only does the ps3 get downloadable maps but mods as well (just like the PC). you still dont know if thats going to happen with the 360 version!! you also dont know if the 360 version will come out with the same amount of maps.
a while ago their was another lemming that said the same thing, "blu-ray isnt needed" he posted a pic of a computer screen with the properties of the drive, it said 4.3 (i think it was this number) gigs used...and it said that the space on the blu-ray is 4.3 gigs as well. why is it like that? (to any computer wiz's) or was that all just bull, if it was...please dont show stuff like that, its pathetic and doesnt prove anything.

i remember them saying how ut2004 was almost 6 gigs and that the next would need bluray. so much for that.

just shows how they overhype things.

not yet wait 4 years. then it mabe. the hardware doesn't needed yet, once the hardware does then it will be, like with pcs eventually needing dvd and devs canceling the cd format because # of disc and the size.
I wasnt here back then, or whatever.

Give me a game with as much substance to it as Ocarina of Time on a CD.
edit: nothing is ever NEEDED, you just want it. You want better graphics, but does that equal gameplay? no
you want better gameplay, but do you need graphics for it? no
Some may argue good graphics can make good gameplay which I agree with, and more data held = better and more gameplay
but
it only does in some cases
ps. have fun with my post
I hear alot of lemmings claiming that "Blu-ray isn't needed" and "the PS3 should've left out Blu-ray" and while that may stand somewhat for gaming now (excluding the fact that motorstorm hasn't been technically surpassed by any other racer to date basng off of the physics, detail, crashes, and the actual size of most of the tracks), but isn't that's why HD-DVD is in the perdicament that they're in as of right now??!!! So before spewing nonsense, just do some extreme research before hand, especially when they are actual facts that contest your statement

Ill make it simple for your simple mind...
El Blu-Ray es BIGGER and better than anything out in the market.
Examples of uncompressed games on the PS3 8)
Ratchet & Clank Future = 15 GB
Uncharted =Apprx 17 GB
Heavenly Sword = Apprx 11 Gb
Killzone 2 = 4.5 GB Alone in the level shown in E3 2007.
MGS4 = Apprx 45 GB
And many many more...
Good luck playing your either compressed games or multiple disc games now and in the future Lems. :lol:
