http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/six-year-old-rpg-valkyria-chronicles-tops-steam-sellers-list/0141295

Sega’s PC version of PS3 RPG Valkyria Chronicles has ‘blown all predictions out of the water’, the publisher has claimed.

The game release on Steam yesterday and was at one stage apparently the most downloaded game on the platform. Currently it sits in third place behind fellow Sega title Football Manager 2015 and Activision’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

“During its first 24 hours on sale, blew all forecasts and predictions out of the water. The award-winning Strategy RPG, originally released in 2008 for PlayStation 3, forced its way to the top of the Steam download charts, beating a host of brand new games to reach number one,” Sega said.

Sega Europe’s senior VP of commercial publishing John Clark added: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the fans for their support in the phenomenal success of this launch. We’re also delighted at the response from the Steam community which indicates that newcomers to the series are finding it as enchanting and engaging as those who have played it before.”

Valkyria Chronicles was first released on PS3 in 2008. Two sequels were released on PSP in 2010 and 2011 respectively.

Ok SEGA. Now Vanquish on PC. Seriously cmon, do it. DO IT.

watched a few mins of gameplay video and gamespot's screenshots and it looks kind of like crap. what's so great about the game? keep hearing all the hype and thinking about checking it out but it doesn't look like anything worth getting so far.

Ihave no idea. I bought it to support more SEGA games on PC. Apparently, it's a story driven strategy game. Don't quote on that though. Watch some reviewes to get a good idea.

A game like this spanking a brand new AAA from horrible developers such as Ubisoft on the steam top sellers page sets a damn good precedent.

Now bring Yakuza! Nobody even buys those games in the west for Sony platforms anyway.

I bought it for the PS3 back in the day and hated it. Traded it in a few days later.

Gross. Another girly JRPG for weeaboos. Hardcore PC enthusiasts don't want this nonsense. We want hardcore badass manly games like Doom.

@elessarGObonzo: It's a pretty unique take on the strategy genre since it mix turn based combat, with tps and jrpg elements, the missions are pretty fun and addictive even if the story, plot and characters are pretty anime.

It might not be the best game ever, but is a really well made game worth to ckeck if you enjoy strategy games.

Maybe if it didn't sell like shit outside of Japan then the PS3 would have gotten the sequels. Over a million sounds like a vgchartz number. No niche Japanese game series dies because it sells a million.

But oh well. Sega of Japan has a new found love of the PC. My body is ready.

No they don't. But to give you an idea, the steam top sellers is based on total revenue.

So, with AC Unity and COD AW at 60 euros, and VC at 20, for every person buying one of those, 3 people boguht Valyria.

Also, atleast in a console vs pc thing, digital allows for higher margins due to a lack of cuts for retailers and distribution fo copies.

I assume VC was a retail releas eon the ps3 way back. Did it top 1 million? I have no idea. but clearly it did well, so that's the important thing.

*Sorry, i had to edit that, since i press the post button to fast

I bought it in the hopes that Sega will release more of their games (Hopefully Dreamcast) over to Steam.

Anyway, I actually like this game. I wasn't sure if I'd enjoy it.

Anyway, that's good news. This means we will be seeing more and more Japanese games on PC which makes consoles even less useful.

Im sure their predictions were pretty low to start with. Though if it does well enough to finally release the others and not just on steam a friend of mines will piss his pants with joy.

Bu bu bu bu PC gamers don't buy games on day one. They all wait untill it's practically free on a sale or pirate it...

Love to hear those console gamer excuses now.

Really want this to happen. I have it laying here, waiting to be played on my PS3. But I'd take a PC version anyday.

Since SEGA sees so much money from PC now anyways, I don't see what's stopping them.

You probably saw that figure from the sales comparison article comparing the sales of VC and VC2. All those figures were pulled from vgchartz.

It's actually kinda funny that many developers still don't see that PC gamers want good PC ports. Assassins Creed Unity came out yesterday and it's at the very bottom of the top sellers list due to poor performance and a large amount of bugs. Valkyrie Chronicles comes out, works just fine, and its the 3rd best selling game on steam right now.

I think he means JRPG has in "J"RPG liek Final Fantasy, etc. Souls have alot fo western influences. it's more of an action rpg made by japanese devs than a normal JRPG, with "anime" designs, etc.

@King_Dodongo said:

Very difficult to gauge. This probably guarantees a VC2 port for start. Now, even if sucessfull, would it be enough for a VC3 translation and porting?

And since this would be on PC, would there be an audiance on it for a sequel?

I don't consider those JRPGs. It's a western style ARPG made by Japanese devs, with little discernible influence from the traditional JRPG genre.

@deadline-zero0: Personally I think the chance of VC3 being ported while VC2 being skipped is more likely. VC2 is confirmed to be a failure in the West, while VC3 is untested, and appears to have a cult following & translation group. Fortunately, due to how they structured the story the VC3, it will actually make a lot of sense if they release it after VC1.

I'm torn on this. I've always hated the lack of JRPG's on PC but this one well, it's kind of a hybrid and I hated it on PS3. I'm glad it's doing well maybe we'll get some decent JRPG's finally on PC even though this isn't one, and isn't very good. You know what, I think I'll just shut up.

I plan to buy this game again as well. Show support, I remember when the game first came out and thinking it wasn't worth getting but others convinced me that it was amazing and it turned out to be one of my favorite games of all time. Only thing I wasn't able to finish was a few EX Hard missions.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Dark Souls II, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky and now Valkyria Chronicles, all selling way more during the launch window then the developers predicted. So many success stories this year! I'm glad that japanese publishers are finally bringing their games to PC.
