I found that $50 for xbox live wasn't worth it, so I stopped paying, and I don't find PSN+ worth it either so I'm also going to stop paying for that.

I plan on just sticking with Steam for when I want to play my games online, unless it's a console exclusive in which case I'll just use the normal PSN.

Gametrix, according to the 360s website, party chat is not offered in Silver yet you keep saying it is. You made a thread trying to compare value between 2 services but you don't even know everything that XBLG offers and again only listed 1 item from XBLG to compare against everything on PSN+. Like I said in my very first post. Just a biased cow bashing the 360 and nothing more.

The irony is that he kept saying that AjunaAddict didn't know what was in XBLG. I'm surprised that the thread even lasted this long-- OP is notorious for skewing information.

Sure it is, that's why Halo wins every poll it's in right?

The ultimate question to test your bias, if MS offered you right now to drop the fee for online play and add something like PS+ to the 360 what would you say? If you would agree your proving my point if you say you wouldn't agree I'd LOVE to hear the explanation behind it...

Well you can get modded for typing LOL as a response but obvious troll threads with misinformation and lies get to keep going and going. Cool.

If they made it worth my while , then sure. See, your under the impression that I am against the idea of PS Plus. I am not. I am against the fact that they have not captilized on it yet and they have offered nothing to make it worth while. However, if they did offer me online for free and a PS Plus like type a thing, but the actual online suffered because it was free, then no, I would not want it. NOTE: when I say the online, im not just talking about online play. Im talking about Download speeds and stuff like that too. I am against PSN Plus right now because they are not offering anything in it RIGHT NOW to make it worth it. So, naturaly im not going to subscribe until they do make it worth it. If this proves im biased (and if so you REALLY need to go look up the defintion of bias in a dictionary) then im sorry, this is how I feel and I really could care less about your personal opinon about me.

You just proved my point, you'd find more value if this was on the 360, yet because it's on the PS3 you don't. That's being biased dude. PS+ is a 12 month deal, just because 2 or 3 months don't have anything worthwhile doesn't mean the other months won't, and it's GREAT VALUE because your actually getting something for your money, Gold is NOT great value, it's simply needed to play online. That's my point. Not PSN > XBL. All you need is to be given ONE single game that you play and bam you got more for your money.

I didn't know you could get XBL gold on PSN for free. Hell I didn't even know there was voice chat on PSN. Where can I download them?

PS+ offers more, but the improvement from Silver to Gold is way better than from regular PSN to PS+, therefore it's the one more important to get.

This is the correct answer.

TC you went and made the wrong question, obviously online gaming has more value than random games for players. Since you didn't add from the first post that if the other service does it for free it does not count as a plus, PS+ is the loser.

Even though by logical standards it is the winner.

So when you play CoD onlineyou experience something different then someone on PC or PS3?

It's OK, I already know the answer, go back to drinking the cool-aid.

it would be different because on the PS3 you will hear more people with mics, on the PC most people talk through typing, and you are using a keyboard and mouse, so its different you can also switch weapons...and do pretty much everything faster on the PC

also PSN+ depends where you live, not everyone gets wipeout, LBP, or other games and they are only for a limited time. Gold feels like a rip off, because everyone you play with gets the same expirence as you, while on the PS3 PSN+ users are different from regular players, so you feel like your getting more.

I keep hearing the certain gamers on this board claim that PS+ is a "laughable service" and is a "total rip off", yet these same people will fight to the death to defend that Gold is amazing value and better then PS+ and totally worth it.

_

  • Let's look at the facts.

PS

  • For less then what it costs to get Xbox Live Gold, PS+ get's you access to games like Wipeout HD, LittleBigPlanet, Destruction Derby. In a nutshell PS3 titles, PS1 titles, PSN Arcade Titles, Minis, DLC, special themes, exclusive demo's and services such as Qore. And all these things add up each month, I think it's supposed to be 4 titles per month? At the end of the year you'll have experienced a very significant amount of content and games that would have otherwise cost you a lot more then the entry fee. And best of all, if your already a crazy PSN purchaser, it's 100% optional, and you don't feel like your missing out if you don't subscribe.

Money

  • What do you get with Xbox Live Gold? Nothing... You rent Online play, which in reality is nothing. PS+ gives you bang for you buck, you don't even need to buy any games, Gold is only for people to access the online portion of their already purchased titles. And please don't list Live features that are a part of Silver this is about Xbox Live Gold.

_

So my question to System Wars is, is it not totally unreasonable to say "Gold is better value"? This is beyond being about opinions and preference, it's simply a fact that PS+ gives you more value. What do you guys think?

Gamtrix

I still don't think the two can be compared really.

Oh the lame "no one on ps3 has mics" deflection.

Here is a shocker for you, most people who have mics on PSN chose not to use them to avoid kids.

The 20+ people I play with often all have mics, and that's all I care about.... honestly, if you never owned a USB mic or cant afford a mic, I don't want to talk to you... so a negative to you is a plus to me.

Same goes for a USB/Blue tooth full sized keyboard.

Want to talk about game play yet or willing avoiding the fact that you are connecting the same way as PSN.

It's ok.. I know the answer to that also ;)

They really aren't comparable, one is a rewards program and one is an online service.FIipMode
I would probably refer to PSN+ more as a content subscription service. And Live Gold sort of as an online gateway/portal/hub.

Really they're not very comparable, the only thing that was the same about them was the price. Not anymore of course.

PSN+ easily. I've had an Xbox since launch and I've never subscribed, and I never will. I've been playing games online for free since the 90's, I'm not going to start paying now. It's worth it for some, just not for me.

but everyone you play with is Gold, unless they are a gold member guest. xbox live silver is if you already have someone on the console who pays for gold. that way you can still play as a guest on some games, Silver members I dont think gets any discounts, or game with fame, or game with dev, or contests, or party chat

obviously playing online is more important than movie dlc, etc.. hence gold has more value.

but which service offers better value for free... it's definitely PSN, since it offers online play

I don't have PS+ so I can't compare, but I'm satisfied with my XBL Gold, I like to cross game chat with my friends a lot, or go into party chat modes when playing online with them to avoid talking to people I don't want to coordinate with, it's easy to join a friends game, track/compare achievements, and you need it to do multiplayer, which I do a lot of, so it feels worth it to me, and Netflix runs so much better on the Xbox 360 than through the PS3 PS+ though doesn't feel as necessary as Live does, first off you don't need it to play online so already I don't see the use of this, plus any DLC that Xbox 360 gets the PSN will get to and probably ask you pay the same on either

No difference on PSN with the exception of party chat WHICH I DON'T WANT, Joining friends game is just as easy, tracking/comparing trophy's is just as easy, after the update Netflix will run exactly the same way the 360 does but here the catch the PS3 netflix will offer Blu ray which 360 doesn't. Sucks huh? So about running better I would change that and admit the netflix on the PS3 will be the way to go especially with the blu ray.

PS+ You get many discounts, on 360 you pay 60 for no discounts. I love it! Keep protecting your system but look above, the poll speaks for itself. Happy gaming.

dude (TC), why are you even trying. 95% of the people on these forums wont understand what you've stated. 1. They dont have logic to understand the simple fact that: you are not talking about preference, or why one might keep renewing the subscription to Live. but instead, are talking about the actual value.

it is obvious that if i only have a 360 or i have friends who own 360 as well, that i would keep subscribing. However, is this subscription (LIve) as great a value as PSN?.

Guys please understan the TC's point. It makes me laugh when i see people that are so shallow and have their minds set on proving that xbox live is "worth it".
Anyone with a decent understanding would agree that having this "Live" on the side like normal PSN would be better than having people pay for it. So basically, allowing gamers to pay online, YET if they choose to want more then features like cross game chat would become available. Only then, can we argue that xbox live is better than PSN/vice versa.

RIght now its quite disturbing seeing you gamers actuallly defend xbox live's value (yes its not that much when you think about it, but it does add up whereas a PSN gamer wouldnt be paying anything- so who benefits in the end?***quite obvious if you ask me.

In all . I agree with you TC. Based on just value and the common good for the gamer, SONY's decision to keep PSN+ seperate is better for the gamer and looking at the facts you've just stated. PSN+ is actually quite "worth" the value unlike xbox live.

Its funny, we're actuallly paying to use the internet and go online.

PS. beware of gramatical errors :P

[QUOTE="Gamtrix"][QUOTE="XboximusPrime"]

Better value, but again im downlaoding stuff I have no interest in playing, so how is that a value to me? With Live im atleast going to use the stuff it offers even if its kinda forced on me. and BTW: I should note that I barely game online and i still happily pay Live.

XboximusPrime

Your simply being biased, PS+ offered around 4 games a month, 4 games times 12 months is a LOT of games, plus DLC, content, themes and services, you saying you don't value any of it without even knowing what the games are and then saying you odn't game online and are happy to pay for Gold. I think you proved enough with that comment.

Its not being biased, its being realistic. Why would I care if a service is a value to anyone else but me? Im going to subscribe to it becaue its a better deal to Joe Johnson in Montana or something? that maysound selfish, but its being practical. Value is opinon based.think rationaly for a second would you. And how the hellis me saying i dont game online that much prove im biased? I dont like gaming online, your going to grief me for that? I pay for live because alot of times it gets exclusvie demos PSN dosent get, I use it to chat with friends that only onw a 360, I use it for Netflicks app, I use it for Last FM, I use it for the community connectivity aspect, with Live I feel like im plugged into the world of XBOX,not so much with PSN and the world of Playstation. Live is really acommunity, while PSN feels just disconnected.

Youa re going to say im biased based of this? Get some perspective.

ure contradicting ureself. First you say that "value" is preference based. yet you manage to list all the features live offers. Now lets say since you( a person that feels as if LIve offers a great service) is compared to a person that finds the same but with PSN. Now set aside all preference related "value to onself". Now based on just FEATURES that are offered. Lets say PSN comes out on top or the other way around, does that mean that the actual "value" is the same of both prices.

it is quite obvious that sony is going to offer more than LIVE, to gain more support from consumers. Its the way business works. One company offers something better than the other. NOw at the end of the day yes it comes down to preference, but in terms of features provided by each service, isnt it logical that we agree that one consumer is getting better service than the other?.

Both are rip-offs. Because you get tons of digital stuff that weigh nothing. "Tell him they both weigh the same."

[QUOTE="Gamtrix"]What do you get with Xbox Live Gold? Nothing...

Ninja-Hippo

I was really digging this comparison until this point. >_> Clearly xbox live gives you *something* or people wouldn't pay for it.

haha. I like that "*something*" part.

My big beef against Live over something like PS+ is that Live is required if you wish to use your machine to it's full potential. PS+ just gives you some extra stuff and if your into those free DLC and avatars and stuff more than what you would normaly pay for them. Your missing out if you don't have Live "yes I am missing out"

Both are horrible values, but PS+ seems to be the lesser evil in the case. You don't need it to play online, it simply bonus stuff for you.

Microsoft has them by the balls and they believe 360 is the way to go meanwhile PS is reaping the benefits and becoming the system of choice for most gamers, hense why PSN community has been growing drastically.

PS+ is a glorified rental service.

hexashadow13

And XBL is a glorified "We're locking something you have until you pay us" service. What's next?

OMG that is sooooo freaking funny

dude (TC), why are you even trying.

However, is this subscription (LIve) as great a value as PSN?.

well paying for the internet is different from paying for gaming. you pay to use the internet not use the web, theres a difference, all websites can charge you money if they wanted t

Sony is keeping PSN+ seperate because sony will lose one of its man benifits against Xbox Live. BUT you can see that Sony needs more support, Sony will probably have to charge everyone one day.

thats not funny, there are many MANY reasons why costs go up. I guess every hater lives out the middle of no where...because prices are NOT set in stone, depending on where you live, you can be paying more or less than someone else

Xbox Live Gold is annoying, Playstation Plus is better... Xbox Live Gold is 60$ for a few early demos and online play, but PS+ is 50$ for free stuff and lots of discounts. chaplainDMK

No xbl is 49.99 for a year.Get your facts straight before you post.

Thats only if you pay month to month. It will be cheaper if you pay for a whole year at once.
