This will end up printing money for them like Hearthstone does for Blizzard.
I got to wonder how vive owners feel seeing oculus announce game after game and then see value announce a card game. I mean it's not even a vr card game...
Speaking of OR...why is it only $400 now while the Vive is at $800?
Where the hell is Left 4 Dead 3?
Probably cancelled like all their Half Life projects:

I would laugh so unbelievably hard if they announced a VR card game.

The 7 hour war that place in-between 1/2 would have been perfect for Adrian Shephard.
before clicking the thread i knew it would have been F2P. but its a card game??
Valve no longer game development company.
Valve is only interested in copying Blizzard games now.
DOTA, a mod for Warcraft once
A card game now, probably like Blizzards card game.
What's next ? An overwatch copy?
This made me think that Valve should release a HL3 card game just for the lol.
People would go mental ! xD
Or a "Half Life 3: create your own adventure" type game :p
Blizzard didn't make DoTA so not copying blizzard....
Card games have been increasingly popular, yes Hearthstone is the biggest... but people like these games, and they are quite easy to make.
Overwatch.... copy...... err.... Team Fortress 2? its the other way around.
People like to moan in this thread because they wont waste 10s of millions of dollars making a SP First Person shooter game in a tired-saturated genre which will likely sell sub-10 million copies if multiplat ... or been a s*itty consolised game if it was on all devices....
Valve are a multiplayer company now, Half-life only got them off the ground, they've done far bigger things since... people fail to accept this reality.
They are supporting 3 popular free2play multiplayer games (all of high quality) and get regular updates, they are heavy in R&D to push VR gaming (wether it fails or not is another story).
So yea... "they don't make games" ... no your right, they've RUNNING 3 big games already... but hey "what have you done for me lately" console crown whos games last 10 hours max don't understand that people would rather games with immensly solid core gameplay that last 10-20 years... than sequal after sequal of handheld Singleplayer drivel.
@ghosts4ever - That card game will (assuming done right) be far more popular than Half-Life 3 .... time to accept the industry has moved on from lonely single player corridor shooters with key cards.
but single player shooters are still doing better than MP games.

If you like card games that's perfectly fine dude.
But you are not the one to dictate what the market wants or needs.
And many, many people being disappointed by this announcement shows there is still a huge amount of people (might even call them fans) that would rather have another Half Life or Left 4 dead.

y oculus has dragon front and it's a lot of fun Card games worked great in VR pretty much every game works great in VR

cause FB is willing to take a lose to sell more units and get more people onto home they are following the console business model. htc is broke and needs to sell at a profit and the fact they don't make money on the games sold for the vive is also hurting them. htc have no way to make back the money if they take a lost on the HMD
@R4gn4r0k: exactly what I think when everyone bought ps4s instead of Xbox One or Wii U then complain that they haven't got any thing to play
As far as valve goes ya their goose is cooked they care more about money than the values of good games anymore

And so it becomes clear that, Valve is exactly the same as the companies it tried to set itself apart from.
The virtues and values they onced had are all gone. The writers and series they once had, are nothing but a distant memory.

Well, yes and no. If EA see's a successful game, or Ubisoft, they pump it out until you hate it, riddle it with so much nonsense that to get to that core experience you have to wade through shit.
Valve basically does what it wants, when it wants. It's like a lazy cat that sleeps all day.

because its no longer game development company. they are digital distributor now. most developers who work on valve left.
I used to miss valve. but not anymore now.
4A games are new Valve. they proven time to time that they can make best storytelling FPS games since Half life and Metro trilogy is one of the best on going trilogy currently.
Id software is also back with a bang too.
so valve? i dont miss them anymore.

Leaving Valve out of the equation for a moment here:
We kinda all want sequels to the games we love, continuing what was great, while also improving on it's faults and making for an even better experience.
It's a shame when a game with great ideas, but many flaws, doesn't get a chance to correct those flaws with a sequel.
But on the other hand you can also get some really bad sequel (Crysis started out great, got worse and worse)
Or you can get a situation like Ubisoft where so many Assassin's Creed sequels and so many open world franchises leads to a situation where everything starts to lose it's identity.
Because they are not sequels at that point anymore, they are just the same game, with the same mechanics, and the same boring NPCs that have the same boring side missions for you to complete.
______
So yeah we can say that Ubisoft and Crytek have lost track of what they were once good at.
But Valve doesn't get excused here. They did promise an Episode 3 once, they never even hid that until it was clear that they couldn't and wouldn't deliver on that.
They were known as a developer that made some amazing FPS, and a developer that bought and helped mod teams to make even more amazing FPS.
But what ever happened to those mod teams ?
What happened to the people that made Day of Defeat ?
What happened to the people that made Portal ?
What happened to the people that made Left 4 Dead ? Some of them left again (Turtle Rock) but L4D2 was made without Turtle Rock
What happened to the writers of Half Life ? Oh, right they all left.
______
Yeah, ok EA has gone the Ubisoft/Crytek route at times and corrupted some of my favourite series: Simcity, C&C, Medal of Honor
But I mean at the same time they still make games that I genuinly love (you might notice with my profile avatar, which is from a recent EA game)
At least they are still trying. Once in a while they'll burry up this old franchise and breathe new life in it. And once in a while they'll make an absolute dud like Dungeon Keeper or Andromeda...
But that's something I can't really appreciate about Valve here, is that: they are not even trying.

Your absolutely right I don't.... I just pointed out , didnt dictate anything.
Left4Dead? how would you keep that interesting over a long period? oh.. you can't... even with Vermatide's grind mechanics, it still died a death despite being well designed, that kinda game has no legs.
I'm sure that crowd of people is representative...? I hardly think Valve will care, considering if they successfully add something new to the card market then they'l rake in farm more than those other 2 choices.
Half-Life 3 wouldn't stand out today on its own merits period.... Source 2 on the other hand, with mods... now that is something I want to see.
but single player shooters are still doing better than MP games.
How are you going to prove this... I can't wait to see what mental gymanstics lead you to believe Doom or Metro are anywhere near a big a deal as Counter-Strike / Battlefield / CoD / Overwatch

the bad press oculus got at the start. We don't really know how much that will hurt oculus cause there is less than a million sold combine. So this means nothing right now, the fact that oculus is cheaper with more content will come into play. I think everyone got overly excited for room scale which isn't showed to be a major driver in hmd sale cause the psvr is the top seller. none of the psvr games r room scale. I fail to see what all this has to do with what I started with. Vive owners has been upset that oculus owners get exclusives then the game dev that htc is partnered with said they have "3" games in development but announce a non vr game. got me wondering how it most feel to see that with ur $800 investment, that they have to use a hack to play the top vr games.

12.000 people playing Left 4 Dead 2 on Steam at the moment, yeah I'd say it has lasting appeal :)
Even for me the L4D games had a lot of lasting appeal. I just wished Valve went full on with their plan to make levels have different paths to take (this is something they brought up for L4D2 but didn't fully execute)
Source 2 ... I mean it's just a name at this point.
The goldsource engine was groundbreaking, the source engine was groundbreaking. But what games are meant to showcase the Source 2 engine ? It would be great if they made a shooter just for that.
And no VR please :P

"I hardly think Valve will care, considering if they successfully add something new to the card market then they'l rake in farm more than those other 2 choices."
A lot of people are making games in the RTS genre, Stealth tactics, online WW2 shooters... And I'm very happy with that.
Happy that developers are brave enough to make games in genres I love eventhough they get told time and time again that there is no money in those markets.
Happy to see those games turn a profit.
Just going after something that is popular to rack in as much money as possible is a business model sure,
It's just not a business model that deserves my respect.

I'm about to pull the trigger and order the Rift. I was looking for some info before I did that. Thanks.
Meh. I'm not really a big Valve fan myself. I have enjoyed some of the games that they've made and enjoyed the Half-Life games back in the day but was never overly enthralled with them. If they ever make Half-Life 3 then I'm sure that it will be something that I'll play but it's not really something that I'm pining away for. If they make it then they make it, if not then oh well.
