People act like they are Gaming Gods when there are alot better devs out there like Gearbox 8)

Avoiding the fact that saying Gearbox is a better developer than is laughable...
Yah, Valve is overrated.
Also, TC, get your own sig.
[QUOTE="spookykid143"]blue shift, opposing force, probably some others. From my understanding, one of which was considered to be pretty good, and the other... not that good. What have gearbox actually done?

Opposing Force was awful, Blue Shift was god-like.

I agree. They need to start making games with retarded weapon physics, generic copy & paste enemies with some sort of eye glow effect, a nice brown color palette and cutscenes.
DarkLink77
Well, they have the generic enemy bit down pat. :P
I know right! Just look at the generic enemies. Seems like I see these in every shooter!

No no no no no. Opposing Force was incredible. Blue Shift was the one that needed improvement.
Yes they are very overrated. Good developers definitely, but nothing they've done has actually wowed me. Most of their stuff is just other peoples ideas that they've decided to make a profit on.RavensmashYup they definitely ripped off games like Half Life 2, Counter Strike and Portal from other people .
It's mainly because they were allowed the chance to create the sequel to half life, meaning that myopic gamers forget all the hard work of gearbox. L4D really isn't that good, it's the result of a monopoly on the online distribution system.
The whole thing is politics tbh

Counter-Strike wasn't their idea. It was originally a mod for Half-Life, and Portal was the spiritual successor to Narbacular Drop, made by a lot of the people that made Portal. Half-Life is definitely Valve's though.

Well Counter Strike was a mod, and Portal is based on another freeware game. Their games are good and polished though.

pssh they brought the awesome entity known as steam so please! on to of that, just about everything valve develops is a top notch game and those with multiplayer are some of the best out there in their respective genre. half life, team fortress, left 4 dead, portal, counter strike! no they are not overrated. whos ur favorite developer and why? lemme see how they compare to valve.

You're right, zombies and big bugs are so original. :roll:Also, this is pretty much the definition of generic.

Ah yes, a generalizing response followed by an eye roll and one single pic. Nothing that specifically addresses the point. Pretty much what I've come to expect from you.

Ah, yes, unable to actually defend Headcrabs (Facehugger rip-off), the Combine (Take your pick of the generic here) and big bugs (Where have we seen this before? I wonder....) as not generic, so you avoid the point entirely and attack me. Pretty much what I've come to expect from you. I imagine you won't reply to this post, either.[QUOTE="-Tretiak"]

Big bugs has been done in everything. The Combine are generic. Headcrabs are generic. Half-Life in and of itself? Not so much. But certain elements are, and admitting that doesn't make the game worse.[QUOTE="gmaster456"][QUOTE="DarkLink77"] Ah, yes, unable to actually defend Headcrabs (Facehugger rip-off), the Combine (Take your pick of the generic here) and big bugs (Where have we seen this before? You've pretty much covered every single base here. That's a tough one. :P I think Big Daddies were pretty original as a concept and all that. Hunters from Halo are also pretty unique (giant colonies of worms in armor that have psychic bonds). I could be wrong on either account, though. Just because I can't remember something like it doesn't mean it isn't generic. Everything's pretty much bee done. The difference is in the details, nowadays.Just because some of that stuff occasionaly pops up in a small handful of games does NOT make them generic.
