[QUOTE="Spider-Jones"]Third party sales on the Wii are well beyond third party sales on the PS3. I believe the Wii now has 8 or 9 third party million sellers, while the PS3 has about 3 or 4.NWA_31
You got a link for that ? I doubt there are actually that many 3rd party million sellers, with all the complaining about games on Wii not selling well enough.
GH3, Rayman, RE4 Wii, REUC, Mario & Sonic, Carnival games, Red Steel, Sonic Secret Rings are all million sellers to my knowledge, off the top of my head.[QUOTE="tader-salad"]Can the Wii run the source engine?Deihmos
Pretty much any computer could run the source engine.

CUz valve loves anything PC related, why they love Wii IDK. :|
The only Console Gabe Newell said he owns is a Wii he might own a 360 but he loves the Wii and he wants Valve to start making games for the Wii.[QUOTE="web966"]Why does Valve hate the PS3?

because it's a bloated machine filled with hardware that sony included to help out it's other business investments and divisions that has a memory bottleneck, is incredibly hard to program for (and so far not worth the effort, no ps3 games are anything close to what sony was hyping) it's overpriced, bluray causes load time problems and the necessity to install to the hdd, and the ps3 has one of the lowest attach rates in console history.
Gabe Newell said it better, but that's my assessment in a nutshell.
I still hope I get some great games to play on my PS3 - but so far I haven't been impressed and totally agree with Newell's stance. If I were a dev I wouldn't touch the PS3 with a ten foot pole until attach rates and install base go up. just isn't worht the effort right now - most companies lose money on PS3 multiplats, and even some exclusives.
AC, COD4, DMC 4, UT3 all beg to differ, if the dev's actually make a quality product ps3 owners will buy and please learn your facts before you say something about the "lowest attach rates in console history" http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=17099 the ps3's attach rate is the same as the wii'sIt's kind of ironic that the PS3 is difficult to develop for when the shaders for the Wii have to programmed itself instead of just letting shader hardware do the work for them. (I hate the word Shovelware but that was the only word I could use to describe not trying and not caring if it will be good or not.) Also bigger userbase.

I'm not talking about sales, I'm talking about how tempting it must be for the developers to just make lazy shovelware with early PS2-like graphics when the Wii can clearly compete with the lower end of the 360 games graphic-wise.
[QUOTE="laughingman42"]Maybe its a sign... I dunno, maybe Valve thinks the Wii is better then the PS3. I think this is a major step toward 3rd Party Support on the WIi.Well that's one of the weirder things I've heard from them. choosing the Wii over the PS3 for a multiplat.

Gabe Newell from Valve likes the Wii. I will try to find the article where he states he wants his company to make a Wii game.
**** Valve.
I love Valve games, but this PC snobbery is getting really tired.
Luckily I have a PC for the next 5 Half Life games.

How is this PC snobbery? Valve time and time again have said they hated the PS3 specifically.. Infact if it weren't for EA's port, Orange box would have never gone to the PS3 to begin with..

He said games..Not consoles.. Try reading before spitting for fanboy crap out!
EA made half as much money off the PS3 in 2007 which is in line with the amount of consoles sold. This would suggest that the attach rate is roughly the same (at least in regards to EA games which while indicative of a whole is not decisive).

well whats to say about the 360 because Uncharted looks better than 80-95% of the 360 exclusivesI dunno if this is just the way the article was written or whether it was intentional in the initial statement but to me the wii comment seems more to spite the ps3 than anything else. Having said that the very idea that valve would consider making a game for the wii has me extremely excitedJohn_Coffey
I would not be surprised if we saw Portal 2 on the wii.

They're not that horrible if you compare them with the Wii's game sales...
Yes they are, PS3 has sold like 10m games by Jan, Wii has sold 34 million by Jan. Its not even close, it makes the PS3 look absolutely HORRIBLE when you put its sales in the US beside the Wii, especially since the Wii is supposed to be the one who supposedly cant sell software, yet it has 3x the PS3 software sales.
[QUOTE="tader-salad"]Can the Wii run the source engine?rolo107
The X-Box could, and it's weaker then the Wii.
I sure have not seen any evidence of the Wii being stronger than the original xbox. Several xbox games are light years ahead of anything seen on the Wii.
They hate the PS3 because they said learning its architecture is pointless and doesn't have a large enough payoff to be worth it. The Cell is a new technology that *probably* won't be implemented in gaming again. Designing for the 360 is similar to PC. And the Wii is easier to develop for (similar to GC) and it has an interesting control scheme.
Basically they don't think its worth the effort to design games or port them to PS3.

no hate, just not very accustomed to the dev tools i guess... and not willing to learn either i guess. :P
I remember Gabe Newel (sp?) saying some very negative things about it.
really? haven't read/ heard it.. probably frustrated about it being so different from pc
yeah I think it was because of that...The superior version of resident evil 5 is all the zombie killing i need for this year 8)Rhys555superior? in what way?
True, source engine can run on ANY processor..
but it doesnt mean its gonna run good just cos it will run, but expect the graphics to be knocked down a bit and amount of zombies chasing you.. since Half life 2 was on the original xbox (mistake imo) its obviously possible for L4D to work on wii seeings as how its slightly faster.. though id much rather play it on PC and thats what i intend to do anyway.. its already gonna run buttersmooth on my pc seeings as TF2 and a couple of other games do.
Admittedly Crysis is a waste of time, but that ran bad on even my GTX.
Who cares The Orange Box was horrible to me I doubt this game will be much better.-Renegadeyou shouldn't even talk, since you think that Resistance is better than TOB.

The Xbox has more advanced shaders than the Wii, that's what makes games look better. But the Wii is capable of larger scale and more detail in terms of stuff like textures and pixels.

I'm talking about software sales you clodBut you are still wrong. PS3 game sales, specifically multiplats are almost always proportional (in terms of total user base) to 360 sales of the same games. Hell Devil May Cry 4 has actually outsold the 360 version.Valves dislike for the PS3 has been around before the PS3 has even launched. It has nothing to do with game sales.

That's not true at all... Even the TEV unit in the GameCube is capable of all of the same shaders as the XBox... The problem with the TEV is that it is more difficult because of the extra stages that need to be implemented to achieve the same results... The shader has to be re-writen for the TEV or emulated...
Most 3rd party GameCube games were ported PS2 source engines that the GameCube ran in it's sleep because they were done using only vector units. Very few games were developed from the ground up on the GameCube. Example of games actually using the TEV are, RE4, Rogue Squadron 2, Rebel Strike, SMS, Metroid Prime 1, Metroid Prime 2. All these games mentioned have very advanced shader effects including (not all), ray tracing, bump mapping, environment mapping, real time light sourcing, real time self shadowing, light blooms, light scattering (Rebel Strike, only TEV can run this shader which is every bit as good as HDR), dirt mapping, AA, etc.
Now take the Wii's TEV which has 16 hardware stages as opposed to just 8, double it's pixel pipes from 4 to 8 and add an additional 64megs of ram and you get the idea of what in can do... Something that people seem to forget is also that the GameCube had a total of just 3megs of ram with S3TC texture compression for graphics. The Wii has a total of 67megs of ram (3 embedded and 64megs off die) for graphics.
Factor 5's Julian Eggebert also said that their engine for the Wii can do every single shadder effect that the PS3 can do... Can the Wii run the same quality graphics as the Xbox? Oh yeah and beyond. Mario Galaxy did it and it was a GameCube ported engine.

Wow, what a surprise. The company that took a crap on Sony's head last year still can't pull their heads out of their arse. Neat.
Valve is a PC dev, designing a game for the PS3 is just vastly different and obviously not worth the extra effort. _Pedro_
