They aren't set, they said they are interested. There is a difference between "showing interest in developing for a console" and "actually set developing for the console".
steamworks as a basis for a good portion of the Wii U 3rd party games would be fantastic. It would bring about steam friend's lists, chat features, and cross-platform gaming.
Considering it houses a Radeon 4 series GPU, of course it's a lot more powerful than the 360/PS3 equivalents. :)

I don't think many people have actually thought about just what a 4850 (thats what I hear its the equivalent to) can do if it is optimised for, but when I had mine it could easily make Grid look far better than any current gen console racer.

You're probably right. Besides, and, not trying to sound rude or anything, console only gamers typically aren't that into the tech that powers their machines, which makes it hard for people who are to convey just how much more powerful the WiiU GPU actually is.
Even if this is a three year old GPU by PC standards, it'll indeed be interesting to see what they can achieve with it. Some PC/WiiU developement would be interesting as well, to get rid of the 360/PS3 hardware holding back current multiplats.
As a hardcore PC gamer, I honestly prefer if they develop for the Wii U and PC exclusively. Wii U is powerful enough so that means there are no more downgraded ports made with 2005 tech in mind and since they're using close-to-bluray disk space they don;t have to dumb down the game(s) in anyway. Also the Wiimote and quite possibly touchscreen aiming is as close to mouse+keyboard you can get to a console, dual analog controllers can burn in hell already.

i dont understand why everyone is so surprised about this? isnt this kinda OBVIOUS? when the 360 launched it was the most powerful console, and once the ps3 launched it was slighty more powerful then the 360. SO of course, after 5 **** years its obvious the wii u will be more powerful then the ps3 and xbox 360!
